Thank you very much! Sounds like its the best time for you to try something new and bookbinding can be very therapeutic too. I actually got started with it to help me cope during a difficult time in my life. It wasn't till later that it evolved into a small business. Creativity has its way of helping us heal. I hope you find a good creative outlet too, I wish you all the best in your journey.

Ty for sharing. What kind of paper is used for the covers? Do you get those pre-printed?
@amethystatelier.creations
@amethystatelier.creations 5 ай бұрын
Hi! Using any paper that is thicker than the pages is usually the best to use as a cover. I sometimes use cardstock. I love the ones with linen texture, but thats just me because i love textures. You can also use artisan papers. When i use a cover paper that is thinner or the same thickness as the pages (like the single sheets with designs already printed on them you can find in crafts stores for example) gluing it with a thicker endpages helps to give it the thickness it needs to become a more durable cover. For the covers i usually buy already printed ones although some day when I have more time id like to print my own designs. I have some customers who send me their designs for me to print and make them custom notebooks. The same rule applies for the thickness.

ok thank you for sharing, but i am confused, with the print front and back how did you get to this point meaning did you design these pages yourself and if so how what measurements did you take to get this started not size how did you start out with papers were these blank sheets and you put the lines on them or what please explain.

Would this method work with 100 pages ? Would you say sewing is best for 100pages?
@amethystatelier.creations
@amethystatelier.creations Жыл бұрын
Good question! Let's break it down to how many sheets of paper you would need to bind together: 100 pages divided by 4 equals 25 sheets of paper (the reason you're dividing it to four is because a single sheet when folded into half results to four pages). Determining which binding method is best would depend on the weight of the paper you're using plus the strength of the stapler or thread you have. Is your stapler strong enough to staple 25 sheets of paper together? If not, would using a lighter(thinner) kind of paper do the trick? Same goes with sewing. Choose a thread that is strong enough to hold 25 sheets of paper together. You may able to use the sew with a heavier(thicker) kind of paper better than the staple technique. However, you would need to press the finished product for about hour to make sure they fold completely. For your reference, I normally use 24lbs for pocket notebooks and 28lbs for my regular sized softcover notebooks, and for the latter I am able to sew them easily. Actually, the Softcover Notebook Sets I sell in my online store (www.amethystatelier.com) are all sown and each notebook has 100 pages. Hope this helps! Goodluck! ;D

I here you friend, it’s definitely a challenge and a lot of work to start a small business and sell your handmade creations. I’m still learning as i go. I’ve sold a good amount so far, but my struggle is more on the consistency of sales throughout the seasons. Some seasons are just harder, so i make up for them by joining markets. You also have to balance your time between creating your products (don’t forget to enjoy the the creative process thats very important) and increasing your brand’s exposure in different online platforms/social media. It takes a lot of time, i know, but don’t give up. Keep enjoying what you do, work hard, and appreciate the small victories :)

Do you cut your own paper? That’s the part I’m struggling with lol I can’t cut them evenly
@amethystatelier.creations
@amethystatelier.creations Жыл бұрын
Yes, i cut my own paper. I understand the struggle, it took me a long time and a lot of practice to improve my cutting skills and I’m still learning. Having a paper trimmer definitely helps especially if you are making notebooks in bulk, but I still do it by hand using cutters and rotaries. My biggest tips for the latter is: 1) Make sure your blades are always very sharp and 2) Don’t try to push the blade too hard to cut deep into your paper stack. Cut lightly, continuously, and multiple times. I hope this helps, let me know how it goes ;)

Where do you buy lined paper?
@amethystatelier.creations
@amethystatelier.creations Жыл бұрын
Hi Cecilia, I'm sorry for the late response. That is a good question. I don't buy lined papers, I actually print my own for several reasons: First, it allows me to customize the lines based on my needs. For example, I can choose to have thicker lines or wider spaces between the lines if I wanted to. Also, I can choose the quality of the paper itself. For instance, I could use a slightly thicker paper (not as thick as a cardstock) if I wanted to be able to use a fountain pen with my pocket notebooks so the ink doesn't bleed through. Then there's the color of the paper, if I want bright white or ivory cream, etc. It is easier and more cost effective in the long run to purchase blank paper in bulk rather than a lined paper, which may not even have the specifications I want. However, you will need to have a printer to do that. Nothing fancy required, a regular printer would do. Especially if you're only making a pocket notebook for yourself. Also, you can save ink by printing using the Draft mode if you like thinner lines. I hope this information is helpful :)

How do you print it on both sides?
@amethystatelier.creations
@amethystatelier.creations 7 ай бұрын
Hi, good question. It depends on what printer you have. In this video I used an Epson printer which did not have the capability to print double-sided automatically, so I would manually turn them over after one side has been printed. The tricky part is to make sure the lines in both front and back pages are aligned. Make sure you stack them perfectly well aligned for each batch you print. It also helps to make sure all the margins in your pages are the same, so they dont print offset.
