Super cool car. curious tho. I watched your other videos, when you had the 7F6 heads, (111 ccs), and you mentioned it having 10.5 compression ratio. What pistons did you use, and now that you've got E heads, (72ccs) what did you do with the old pistons? Wonderin if you still got your ears on, and if you still own this car?

still have it with this combination...sold the cyl heads and pistons to a friend.

@@MEC1955 Thanks for the reply. Just got this notification. Glad you're still enjoying the old bird. I've got a condition 5 73 T/A, (motor was wrong, and now replaced, not running). I also have a set of 191/197(?) 71 455 HO casting heads, and want to build a 455 with more compression. Difficult to find out of the box domed pistons to fit our chambers, W/O going to expensive race pistons. Hoping up these old iron motors aren't as popular as 30-40 yrs ago. Just wondering about the pistons you sold. What they were, and who made them. Thanks for any info.
@MEC1955 Жыл бұрын
@@joequillun7790 They were Auto tec and custom order..you might want to do some research..maybe call Butler Perf...and ask them how much you can safely cut those 197's and use a flat top piston , maybe get them to 98-100 ccs... as you don't want to get much over 9 to 1 ,maybe 9.5 with cast iron heads with todays gas.

@@MEC1955 I'm not looking to run pump crap. Purple kool-aid for me. Car won't be driven often on the street. But thanks for the tips, and advice. Funny how the head casting has morphed from 191s, to 197s. In the 70s, HO racing listed them as such, and I've owned them since 81. Never needed to dissect them till about 10 yrs ago, and see the 1 could actually be casted as a 7. Doesn't matter. The comb. chambers are still huge. Now that the nice weather is here, I hope you're ripping the pavement with yours. Glad to hear you rowing that stick shift. I'm assuming it's a Muncie? I'll have-ta check out your other videos. :)

i had the collectors made..then i cut another set of headers apart, made them equal length and welded them together..not easy and had them ceramic coated orange.. you might try Sweet Ave.Fab.. I believe they make the collectors, maybe they can make you a set.

Looking for info on the stagger for the tubes into the collector for the Super Scavenger Headers. What I mean is what is the length in the collector of each exhaust tube and how do they conform to the firing order. So if your engines odd side is 1-3-5-7 would they extend into the collector (shortest to longest) in the same order and how far do each extend into the collector. Was their entry into the collector vary from engine to engine. I know that he originally decided to make just the collector and sell them but determined that selling the completed header was better for quality control.
@MEC19554 жыл бұрын
i made all my tubes 32 " , they end up wherever they end..i used styrofoam balls and ran a thread through them made them 32 " long., just research and see what your engine might like..obviously the 7 tube is gonna be farthest back in the collector., as a rule ,but depends on what suspension or steering or frame or whatever components you are going around , with your tubes..i can send you photos if you care to give me your email or if you have facebook or instagram...
@randallblack95194 жыл бұрын
@@MEC1955 Hi, for the race setups they say 27"x1.625"d is best for my engine. I would like to know the stagger length in the collector (ie 3",6",9",12") or how would I calculate the wavelength of the exhaust gas pulse.
@MEC19554 жыл бұрын
@@randallblack9519 well,,i hear what you are saying,but ,if this is an average car,,you obviously have to route the tubes around engine crossmember, control arms,steering box,and to underneath the frame and upon doing this and if you want equal length tubes , they are gonna end up wherever they end..mine were not the same side to side ,as one bank is farther ahead ,routing of tubes around crossmember ,control arms,you know what i mean..i just went with the equal length primary tubes and they end up where they end ..as far as i can see.if you tried to make stagger length in the collector with some sort of equation you'll end up with unequal length primary tubes..surely you've seen the drawing or photo of the original headers with the cutaway in the collector..i tried to duplicate where my longest tube ends up ,,but you also have to consider transmission crossmember as far as placement of the collector..hope this helps you..like i said .i'll be happy to send you photos of mine..it might help
