Another fantastic vegan grocery haul video The Plant Plan. We have tofu available in Lidl in the UK but for other vegan products Tesco (the big stores are cheaper than the Express and other similar stores) Sainsbury's and Asda are among the best options.

Thanks for sharing the tips! Cant wait til I’m back in the UK to explore more. I’ve only been to Tescos twice - a small express one (in Bristol) for snacks, then a large one (in Hove or Brighton? I can’t remember exactly 😅) to stock up on Marmite before coming home (but it got confiscated at customs! I was so sad!) Anyway I look forward to seeing Sainabury’s and Asda!

A good tip for easy fresh garlic is to get the peeled stuff and put it in the freezer. You only need to set it out for 60 seconds before it's soft enough to go into a garlic press. I love doing something similar with onion, bell pepper, and ginger now, too! Just chopping it up and freezing it. As long as it isn't sitting there for more than a year (which it never makes it close), it has full flavor. I don't know why the pre frozen stuff is so bland, but freezing it at home works great and saves a lot of time. The ginger and garlic hold up especially well, though.
@ThePlantPlan7 күн бұрын
All great tips! And yes they do freeze so well, I do this often when I have the time! Thanks for sharing. That being said the initial effort, while it saves time overall, is still a barrier for a lot of people. Also folks with chronic pain have this solution. If you can pay a similar amount for the convenience and time savings - why not?
@RP-uu7oq7 күн бұрын
@ThePlantPlan Yes, I agree. I actually have ehlers-danlos syndrome, which obviously comes with massive chronic pain, and I find the frozen garlic to be just as easy, which is why I mentioned it. If someone had hand pain that would make it difficult to use a garlic press, I would hope that person would understand it isn't the tip for them. I also find it easier to have something prepared for when I have low energy or high pain and can't bring myself to chop an onion, which is why I offered that solution as well. I'm simply offering an alternative for people who might want one. That doesn't mean I have anything against jarred garlic.
@ThePlantPlan7 күн бұрын
@RP-uu7oq thanks for sharing! Likewise for folks who prefer fresh and have the time and energy, they know the pre chopped and frozen options are not for them. I appreciate you talking about your experience- we are all about showing as many options as possible because there’s no extra points for doing it the hard way if an easier way is more accessible. 🙏🏾

Anti bread sounds really depressing 😭. Don't count me on this freezer burn happens when the water in the food freezes/expands and changes the structure of the food. Soup looks delicious, definitely something I want to try out in this cold weather!

Freezer burn just gives it a weird taste. Probably not a big deal if it’s just a little bit and it’s going into a soup.
@ThePlantPlan9 күн бұрын
Hi friend, thanks for stopping by and thanks for the info! I’ve rarely experienced a weird taste with freezer burned items - the texture is usually off but I don’t mind, as long as it’s still safe to eat I’m gonna eat it 😅 Anyway I’m going to pay attention to the taste difference now! …or just eat my food before it gets to that point 😂
@RP-uu7oq7 күн бұрын
You can actually just rinse the freezer burn off to get rid of most of the odd flavor. It just depends on how old it is, whether it tastes off or not. But yeah, soak the edamame or whatever in some water and it'll be almost as good as fresh
@ThePlantPlan7 күн бұрын
@RP-uu7oq yep completely agree - that’s exactly what we did here: a quick douse in hot water to thaw and rinse. It pains me to see folks throw stuff out because of freezer burn. I genuinely wanna know why they think it’s gone bad! 😅

Thanks for stopping by. So true! And great to see another OG vegan here! I’ve been vegan for 10yrs and that transition from omnivore to vegetarian to vegan was a slow realization of “wow I didn’t realize how much food costs!” Even during 2020-2023 animal based food prices skyrocketed and I didn’t feel a thing until more recently. Anyway thanks for your support. Looking forward to your 2025 grocery hauls - are there lots of veganuary things happening there in the stores? I wish it was a bigger thing here.

Sorry to hear it is cold in the United States. It is unseasonally warm for this time of year in Scotland. Another awesome video The Plant Plan and hopefully you are having a good week and may it continue. Prices are increasing too much.
