Thank you so much for your explanation on converting denary to binary. I now understand how much of a silly goose i was for not understanding how EASY it is. i have a question though, what if the denary number is a big number like for example: 392 if you add all the columns it doesn't add up. In that case do we add other columns like here we finished at 128 so do we add other columns like 256?

My problem is that converting manually is easy enough, but writing a C program that does it for you has been hell for me! It's really difficult to manage each element of a hexadecimal integer :( I tried using bitwise operators which work for converting hex to binary, but I don't know how to do it the other way around!
