A non sequitur, but I thought Kris Kristofferson needed a tribute Cajun style , even with the expected but unavoidable asymmetric format: Why Me, Lord (Kris Kristofferson)...................................Cajun Translation................................Meaning (minus rhythm and rhyme) Why me, Lord? ........................................Quôfaire, Dieu? ................................... ......Why, Lord? (1) What have I ever done ..........................Qui c'est j'ai fait au long .................................What did I do along To deserve even one ............................Que j' mérite même ain bon ..................................That I deserve even a good-one Of the pleasures I've known? ...................Des plaiséres j'ai passé? ...................................Of the pleasures I've had? Tell me, Lord, .........................................Dis-mon, Dieu, .........................................Tell me, Lord, What did I ever do .............................Qui c'est j'ai fait d'abord .................................What did I do as such That was worth loving you ......................Qui valait que j' t'adore ...................................That was worth that I adore you For the kindness you've shown? .................Pour l'amoure ti m' montrais? ...............................For the love you were showing me? (2) Lord help me, Jesus, ..............................Aide-mon, cher Jésus, ....................................Help me, dear Jesus, I've wasted it so, ................................J'ai fripé aigne tas, ....................................I've squandered a lot, (3) Help me, Jesus, ...................................Aide-mon, Jésus, .........................................Help me, Jesus, I know what I am. .................................Chus ça que ça 'rclâme. ............................ .....I'm that which they claim.(4) But now that I know ...............................Mais pace que j' connais .................................But because I know That I've needed you so, ..........................Que j'avais bésoin d' toi, ...............................That I had need of you, Help me, Jesus, ...................................Aide-mon, Jésus, .........................................Help me, Jesus, My soul's in your hand. ...........................Ta main tcheint mon âme. .................................Your hand holds my soul. Try me, Lord, ............................................Essaye mon, Dieu, ........................................Try me, Lord, If you think there's a way ........................Si ti crois y a aine chance ..............................If you think there's a chance I can try to repay ................................J' peux faire aine récompense ............................I can make a recompense All I've taken from you. ..........................Pour tout ça j'ai pris d' toi. ...........................For all that I took from you. Maybe, Lord, .............................................Pétête, Dieu, .........................................Maybe, Lord, I can show someone else ...........................J' peux montrer d'autes l'enfer ..........................I can show others the hell What I've been through myself .....................J'ai passé en travers ....................................I went through On my way back to you. ............................Pour ertourner cez toi. ..................................To return to you. (5) Lord help me, Jesus, ...............................Aide-mon, cher Jésus, ...................................Help me, dear Jesus, I've wasted it so, .................................J'ai fripé aigne tas, ...................................I've squandered a lot, Help me, Jesus, ....................................Aide-mon, Jésus, ........................................Help me, Jesus, I know what I am. ..................................Chus ça que ça 'rclame. .................................I am what they claim. But now that I know ................................Mais pace que j' connais ................................But because I know That I've needed you so, ...........................Que j'avais bésoin d' toi, ..............................That I had need of you, Help me, Jesus, ....................................Aide-mon, Jésus, ........................................Help me, Jesus, My soul's in your hand. ............................Ta main tcheint mon âme. ................................Your hand holds my soul. Jesus, my soul's in your hand. .....................Jésus, ta main tcheint mon âme. .........................Jesus, your hand holds my soul. (c) (1) "Quôfaire" (= why, pr. kô-fàr). (2) "amoure" (= love, pr. â-môr), is usually feminine in Cajun. (3) "aigne" (one diphthongized syllable! Rhymes with "peigne", a comb.), from "ain", meaning "one", is often thus pronounced before "tas" when the meaning is "a lot" in amount, but not when it means a literal "pile" or "heap". (4) "ça", can mean either 'that' or 'they', depending on the context. When used as "they, it is not followed by verbal auxiliaries. The line containing it is an example of both usages in the same sentence. "ça 'rclâme" (pr. sâr-klâm), infinitive "erclâmer" (to claim). (5) "cez" (= to, at), and also "chez".

Cajun French is more capable than just repetitive phrases shouted within "tcheinque et tcheinque" music. It has no problem rendering the great lyrics of the 20th century, as, for instance, Johnny Burke's "Pennies from Heaven": A long time ago, ..................................................................Ain million d'années, A million years BC, ..............................................................Avant qu'le Jésus-Crit, The best things in life .........................................................Le méilleur du mone Were absolutely free. ..........................................................Était pour tous sans prix. But no one appreciated .......................................................Mais personne s'en pôrtait cas là A sky that was always blue, .................................................Au bleu éternel du ciel, And no one congratulated ....................................................Et personne ermerciait pas là A moon that was always new. ..............................................Aine lune tout la nuit nouvelle. So it was planned that they should vanish now and then, ...Çafait il ont planné d' les câcher temps en temps, And you must pay before you get them back again. .....Et faut payer avant qu'euxautes ça t' les er-rend. That's what storms were made for, ........................................C'est ça y a l'ôrage pour, And you shouldn't be afraid for ...............................................Et faut pas qu' ti t' fais aine peur pour... Every time it rains ..................................................................Chaque fois la puie s'lâche It rains ..................................................................................A' lâche Pennies from heaven. ..............................................................Sou aprés sou d' ciel. Don't you know each cloud contains...........................................Pas si ti connais l'nué câche Pennies from heaven?. ............................................................Sou aprés sou d' ciel? You'll find your fortune falling ....................................................Ti'as trouver ton bien tome dans All over town, .........................................................................La vélle entière, Be sure that your umbrella .........................................................Fais sûr ton parasol pointe Is upside down. .......................................................................Le manche en l'aire. Trade them for a package of .....................................................Traide les pour ain paquet de (1) Sunshine and flowers. ...............................................................Sôleil et d' fleurs-le. If you want the things you love, .................................................Si ti veux ça que t'adores, You must have showers. ............................................................I' faut l' ciel pleure-le. So when you hear it thunder .......................................................Bein quand l' tonnerre tére ain coup Don't run under a tree: ..............................................................Cours pas d'ssous l'arbe au ras: There'll be pennies from heaven for you and me. ......................Y aura sou aprés sou d' ciel pour mon et toi. (c) (1) The Cajunization of "trade" is "traide" and rhymes with "thread", but with the - R - as heard in Italian.
