What a material used for veri speed pully bushes?
@HWMachRepair25 күн бұрын
All modern day motor bushings are made with a plastic composite. If you have the blue/teal bushings those are made with a Delrin material.

@ 12:40 you're working on the right-side clockspring. You jump over to the left side, to remove the pinion shaft snap ring, and tap out the shaft. @13:55 we come back over to the right side, but the clockspring assembly is already removed. You never showed what to do w/ this. Just pull it out? Drive it out w/ the pinion shaft?

My problem is that the quill autofeed knob is almost impossible to engage either way. I can tap lightly with a small brass hammer, it will engage and work properly, but it should work with just fingers. Same with pulling out on the knob, which required pliers. Sounds like a fun do-it-yourself project. 😞

Hey Barry! Thanks for the video. Hey, I run a 2 axis Acu-Rite Sharp knee mill. The last two times a repair guy came out and replaced the broken clockspring, it never worked right. It has way too much snap back at the bottom of travel even though it has no snap back and actually drops at the top of travel. I have tried adjusting it but no position even comes close to working right. Of course, I just want it to be neutral and stay where I put it. I'm convinced the guy must be installing the wrong spring. Is that possible? Thanks for any help.
@HWMachRepairАй бұрын
It sounds like whoever installed it did it incorrectly, it can do that if you don't have the quill in the correct position when installing it. The Sharp clockspring was always made to return position, if you want it to stay in place you would be happier with the Bridgeport spring. Bridgeport made theirs to stay in place when moved. I you get PN: 1112 and follow the video to install it you should be good. If you have any issues we are just a call away: 1-800-285-5271 machinerypartsdepot.com/product/clockspring-assembly-1112/

Say you are busy taking your spindle out, tap tap form the back and it gets stuck. The bottom bearing looks like its about an inch away from the spacer and no matter how many "taps" it's given, it refuses to move.

@@HWMachRepair it's fine thanks. The previous owner never put the clamping nut on top of the ac bearings and one came apart. Took the spindle shaft out and left the bearings in so I could tap them individually. It's really great that you guys follow up even on a 4 year old video. Have to say you folks have my respect.

Barry, Thanks for all the great videos about Bridgeport milling machines. Will you please make a video specifically about all of the various J & 2J head noises, and help us to troubleshoot our possible issues. Thanks!
@HWMachRepair2 ай бұрын
We have thought about doing something like that, the issue is that the noises don't come through correctly on a video.
@HowardWertz2 ай бұрын
@@HWMachRepair That's unfortunate regarding the sound coming across correctly in the videos. At work, we have several Series One Bridgeports, each with their own issues! One however is making a horrible sound like the bull gears are clashing, but when the variable speed is cranked up, the sound lessens more and more. Could this be a simple adjustment, or do you think it needs to be looked at? Again, Thanks for all the great videos!

I have a set screw in the bottom of the table tee slot. I also have a hash mark on the front table edge in line with this set screw. I also have a hash mark on saddle that supports the table. When the two hash marks are aligned I can remove the set screw and drop oil through the set screw hole onto the cross feed nut lubricating it. I do not know if this is common to all Bridgeports or a previous owner added it. I also have a shallow round bottom trough milled all of the way around the periphery of the table which is extremely handy for laying drills, taps, and etc. so that they do not roll off when being exchanged, yet does not collect much in terms of swarf.
@HWMachRepair2 ай бұрын
The configuration that you have was common for the Zerk lubrication machines and is from the factory. Once Bridgeport went to the one shot lube they removed the set screw and the alignment marks. The biggest problem we see with that configuration is the way lube is designed to drip on the X screw, run around it and drip down to the Y screw but the line down to the Y screw gets blocked very quickly. -Barry

I'm working on a Prototrak DPM3 that has a head modeled after the Bridgeport 2J, and given that it is a 3-axis CNC I have a hard time thinking of a case where I would need to use the power downfeed. I'm always interested in finding ways to tidy machines up, and so it got me wondering if all the hardware associated with the power downfeed could be removed and whether the head would continue working well otherwise without it.

A trick for getting the blind bearing out. Pack its hollow shaft with grease and reinsert the bull gear shaft. Try to seat it with an arbor, press, clamp, etc. The hydraulic force should push the bearing out.
