The audiobooks narrated by Grover Gardner (Andrew Adams pseudonym, I believe) are good. I’ve got digital copies of all the volumes. They’re excellent. Of course, given them when they were written much of the history and some of the terms are going to be out of date. That said, there is a chunk of useful information. It inspires one to read more in-depth on some of the areas that he covers. I started taking notes, and found that it’s hard not to write a lot of information down. There’s just too much fascinating stuff!

I used to be a press/publicity manager and worked with Simon Callow briefly when a production of ''My Fair Lady', which he directed, came to our theatre. The show itself was a bit chaotic as though not enough time had been put into it. I do think Callow is a good writer and I enjoyed his biography of Charles Laughton. But as a person I didn't much care for him..

Perfect sir I'm trying to read it. In addition to your great remarks, we are in Kali Uga cycle, which means Yoke age/darkness, the epoch of asininity, cupidity, superficiality and etc This period is 1980 to 2080, the age of crisis to crisis! It's interesting, you mentioned first impression reactions to paintings, with this one, mine was loneliness and isolation.. Then , seeing the title, I thought perhaps as an oracle, the figure's only connection to people was through encounters when they came to see into the future. And other than that, all he/she could do was look down on the world below him, completely cut off from any other human contact..

Evidently you're more than a little dismissive. I am interested however in how your encounter via this video with the supposed zen-like understanding and patience of a Dao master might actually turn out. You seem to be having a proper good scratch of the head. And I kind of entirely agree with the sentiment about endless opposites. They don't seem to work out. They are far too neat in their claims, as if revealed simplicity must necessarily encompass, all things! The great claim at the beginning, "The Dao is empty, But used, it is inexhaustible!" would appear to be a serious piece of obscure meaning.

I can easily imagine gossip, slander and character assassination being prime weapons of choice! And from what I know of liars if they manage to do it with charm, wit and do it enough then they may overwhelm the reader with a river of BS! Raunchiness and lewdness, and the big mens throbbing military campaigns always had a "certain readership" and I can imagine ten times so in roman times. I really like Helens pink dress in the third painting. I love the color. Yes, I think you are absolutely right. There was a Victorian painter, I think his name was Albert Moore, who specialized in painting women in his version of Greek clothing and he always used pleats and 'wrinkles' based on Greek sculpture. In fact, I remember reading that he often had his models dress in wet/ damp clothing in order to help replicate that look!

I took an art class in college and really liked it. I was struggling taking science courses and got an A+ in drawing. It was a surprise to me and opened up a new world for me. Start with buying a sketchbook and using a black pen. It helps to have an instructor who encourages you to make some art. I go through different modes of painting and usually paint about 10 paintings per year.
