Congratulations! Were literature and art part of your professional life? And how many European cities have you been able to visit? I'm American but have lived in Scotland for over 20 years now and love being able to explore the art and architecture on my doorstep and across the English Channel.

Hey David, congratulations on reaching 1,000 subscribers. I know that the Story of Civilization is your favourite book series, which of the eleven volumes is your favourite, and which is your least favourite ?

Two questions: 1) What were the ideas that stuck with you after reading Durant's Story of Civilization? 2) What is your process for taking notes when reading?

I like your videos with commentary about art exhibitions and I noted that you also had a painting in an exhibit also. Do you paint a lot or was is it just a sometimes thing? Do you recommend that other people give painting a try, if they feel called to it? (It seems like it might be a very big undertaking).

I took an art class in college and really liked it. I was struggling taking science courses and got an A+ in drawing. It was a surprise to me and opened up a new world for me. Start with buying a sketchbook and using a black pen. It helps to have an instructor who encourages you to make some art. I go through different modes of painting and usually paint about 10 paintings per year.
