Hi Laura, I saw that you filled out my website's contact form yesterday-thank you for your interest and reaching out. It takes me 1-3 days to respond, depending on how many students I am working with at a given time. I just replied to your message (1 day later). Feel free to send me any questions in that email thread.

Hello there, is it significant to take the AP courses without taking the exam because of a family financial status? Will that be a reason for universities?

How do you sign up for these exams? As a self study
@CollegeLead10 ай бұрын
The process is probably different from when I did this process years ago. I contacted local public and private schools to see if they would allow me to register for the exam with their students who were taking the test already. I'd recommend researching online and contacting the College Board to explore what your options might be. Good luck!

i give you perfect 1s across the board. how much does harvard pay per year? admissions seems pretty subjective, like they should probably just use a computer to calculate test scores/academic performance and go from there. it's basically impossible to judge someone's personality IMO especially just out of high school.

Likability!!! Is it not the subject of lawsuit against Harvard pending in US SC? Do interviewers still report that infamous attribute? BTW, Isaac Newton did more for humanity than all the Harvard grads from the beginning till today put together. Don’t be prejudiced with your opinions and destroy a brilliant potential future Newton with your privilege as an alumni interviewer.

@@raihans2991 absolutely ! Columbia was quite official, but my interlocutor was a pleasant person to talk to from my geographical region; nothing extremely special, just basic stuff like «why do you want to study in columbia » // « tell me about yourself ». princeton, however, was SO enjoyable! i had an alumni of 1979, he was super old and SCOTTISH (i am european myself), but we had a casual friendly dialogue about pretty everything in the world without any mediocre basic questions

Hello. My school isn't that much popular. But government School (12th grade) 1.High School coding competition 1st 2. High school Debate competition champion (Not National) 3. Science club president in school 4. Teaching 250+ students Poor street kids and including paid. And so on including volunteering. Is that a good ECA for computer science/Cyber Security major? Ivy League SAT optional. GPA 4.6 out of 5. Is that good enough.

Without knowing your entire application it’s difficult to determine - but from my perspective your ECs might a bit weak. I don’t know what coursework you took but a 4.6 is pretty decent.

I'm not sure if you still respond, but prep books are for studying after learning things right? or does it teach you from the beginning?
@CollegeLead2 жыл бұрын
I still respond! I don't have time to make another video, since I'm focused on helping my students through the college application cycle. It really depends on the book. Some books (the thicker/longer ones) have more explanations, while others (typically shorter/condensed) expect a certain level of familiarity. Generally, I recommend starting earlier (~December) rather than later. Try to target getting through at least have of a prep book over winter break. If your teacher hasn't covered a topic yet, then search that topic in your textbook, watch online videos about it, and then reread that section in the prep book. Good luck!

I’m currently 11 years old, and Harvard has always been my dream. Do you think the most important part is the interview, essay, extracurriculars, or grades? Thank you!
@mercyayeni9812 жыл бұрын
Hello as a senior currently applying for college here is what i’ve been told :) they kinda all work together harvard expects you to have good grades but making sure to have a strong extracurricular schedule will only strengthen your application as well as having a strong essay and interview so they can get to know you a bit and
@badereric2 жыл бұрын
GPA is the most important, but a good GPA won't get you in by itself. The interview is definitely the least important of those 4. Yale for example does not use the interview at all when deciding to admit you or not.

extracurriculars and grades
@chemicalmilkshake Жыл бұрын
Going along with what everyone else said, it's a conglomeration of all those things. Grades are good, but so is everything else. The essay alone can actually count for 10-30% of your application, so that kind of goes to show that it's not just academics. As for ECs, spike or no spike, the thing they are looking for there is passion, intellectual curiosity, as well as how you've personally spent your time. Serving your community, demonstrating leadership, and self-motivation are all good qualities to aim for. Also, coming from someone applying this fall, just remember that it's very much a lottery and that *if* you don't get in, it's not a reflection of your worth, nor does it mean your hard work was for nothing. I know it's really easy to get fixated on one particular school, like Harvard, but try to keep your options open, especially since you're so young and (hopefully) your interests will change/expand. You seem like a very driven individual, so I'm sure you're going to do great things, regardless! Best of luck to you, and apologies for this being so long by the way.

Is it a negative on your app if you ask a sophomore teacher? What about if you think it will be worth it knowing your sophomore teacher will represent you in the best way? What about if your sophomore teacher was the club advisor in junior or senior year?
