I suspect this is a fake, the guy is still with the band. Either that, or she picked a strange way to promote herself, showing her firing a guy. Also, if this was for real, they wouldn't have shown the close-up of the player's fingers flashing up and down the fret board, illustrating how good he really is.

I got fired from a country gig after taking a couple of weeks off. They hired the bassist I found to fill in for me. We played one last gig, and it was incredible.

In 50+ years (now retired) of pro/semi-pro playing across a multitude of projects, it's been a point of pride that I always played to the project, strove to be a partner in the process. Part of the job (and fun, for me) is to find a way to express yourself without overshadowing the whole.

Relax, ric, it took me a little while to get the joke myself. Something seemed odd about the video, then a couple of things occurred to me. 1. Why would anyone make a promo video showing her firing a guy, even if he did go overboard for a few moments? 2. Why would the camera show a close-up of the guitarist's fingers expertly flashing over the fretboard, thereby illustrating how good he really is? She probably brings the joke into her live appearances, like when the band is introduced she leaves the guitarist for last and then says, "We decided to hire him back" followed by laughter from the crowd.

This song makes me feel seen when I go through bouts of depression. Sometimes I’m feeling as lonely or low as can be and pressured to smile through the pain. This pressure to be lady-like and pleasant when you’re in deep pain. This song has helped me feel like things will be alright though
