I share your same assumptions about popular reviewers and the corporate grip on the game industry. I do think there was a rush in getting out their opinions. My concerns seem to be more around the industry, about making games and the popularly cited critics. Personally I do want better heroines. But that shouldn't mean quality and having fun needs to be sacrificed. I have a stronger hunch the decline overall in games from larger companies is because of layoffs and cutting corners. On the other side we have critics and popular reviewers wanting to stay relevant for such a short period. And no doubt Stellar Blade has had...interesting topics. Nothing against good criticism and praise, but some of these folks lose the point and blame certain people, who probably want nothing to do with this game to begin with. I think Stellar Blade is a strong start for Shift Up. Their 1st game really is just for them to get the money and funding they need to get to the dream project😂. I'm sure they had taken away more lessons in developing a huge game. Too long didn't read. I really appreciate some of that British humor as well.

Thanks for your thoughts, Audrey. I just want fun games back with a disregard for "safety" when it comes to character depictions. There should be something for everyone.

I unironically love this game. There were so many creative ideas poured into it. Had a blast playing it.

I love the franchise. But the reboot managed to scratch an itch. It's too bad it got cut short.

Man I never even finished DMC 5. DMC Devil May Cry had the best story, best Virgil, best villaon, best world. Let's be real: the other games didn't have a world, just levels. And peopled said bring Nero back. And I was like: please don't. Peope complained that Dante is whiney (??) in DMC Devil May Cry... and one of the first lines of Nero in DMC5 was: "HE SAID I WAS WEAK!". Damn that Nero kid is annoying.

Finish it. But I'm not saying this as a big fanboy lol By comparison, from gameplay to visual looks, DmC did win me over. I perfectly knew it's different. I don't want it any other way. A d it seems Ninja Theory as a team stood their ground and decided to make their own games, even when they went to sign on to Microsoft. But who knows, if Capcom will reach out to Microsoft for a sequel contract.

I'd like to make a slight correction to one of my closing statements in the video - Eve is flawless. Ah, that's better. Which nano suit is your favourite in the game? What would you like to see in a potential sequel?

The 'community' will never admit it because it's their favorite game in the series, but DMC3: Dante's Awakening is actually the first reboot of the series. Prepare yourselves... Despite it being sold as a prequel, it's the first game to change the story as well as Dantes characteristics. People argue that it's because he was still a teenager, but his persona from the first game is never seen again. He remains the same character he was in 3 for the rest of the series. It had the highest marketing budget and was accompanied with a manga and anime series to try and stimulate hype. Dante in 3 became the definitive rendition of the character thereafter. In the first game its said he lost his mother and brother 20 years prior, leaving Dante as the sole survivor. He is a devil hunter not for fun, but because he is on a path for vengance. His only confirmed age in the games is between 20-30 in DMC1 (most sources say approximately 28). If he loses his family 20 years earlier, it means DMC3 takes place when he was around 8 years old... Of course, this is not the only problem. Its detailed in the enemy files that Nelo Angelo is the possesed soul of Vergil... because he originally died as a child. However at the end of 3, Vergil challenges Mundus and losses, corrupting him, and ultimately turning him into Nelo Angelo which he is only seen as in 1 (and a special costume in 3). No matter which route you go, Vergil is defeated for good in 1, as his amulet falls into Dantes hands and he dissipates into nothing, unlike when you defeat him twice before and he just whisps away to retreat. Mundus also confirms that Vergil is defeated. Yet, he pops up inexplicably in DMC4SE, and is the main villain in 5. So what gives with such blatant errors in continuity? Why exactly did Dante forget the anime sword fights he and his brother would have throughout their lives? Better yet... where did Rebellion come from? Dantes own signature sword? In 1 his signature weapons are his handguns, Ebony & Ivory. I'll fucking tell you, it all came from Itsunos asshole when Capcom gave him the game to direct instead of the people who actually created it. He didnt know wtf do to and thats why 2 is the entry you're not supposed to play. No, the community says you have to play 3, 1 (if you want), 4, and 5. Why? Because they dont want to admit 3 changes everything making the first game one big plot hole. It is a reboot that changes Dante, changes Vergil, and changes the story itself, not at all unlike the SECOND reboot, DmC. I will say 5 tries to remedy this by explaining Vergil had Shadow, Griffon, and Nightmare as his handlers while he tried to gain that elusive 'more power' hes always after. What ACTUALLY happened was his mom simply thought Vergil was already dead so only Dante was saved. Of course, none of this is ever mentioned in their anime sword fights in 3, theyre simply rivals who forgot the plot. Ones good, ones bad... why? Cuz its a goddamn reboot and Itsuno never knew wtf he was doing with the story. Enter Nero. How does he exist? Dunno. Who did Vergil bang to create him? Dunno. Maybe they'll cover it in DMC6 now that Nero is effectively the main character since 4, because contrary to popular belief, no one liked Dante in 3 at the time it was released. Ruben Langdon himself has confirmed this. If youve made it this far, understand this lengthy comment exists to remind you there really is no 'canon continuity in the DMC series. Literally everything is up in the air as the games go on. Not only that, but that the entire reason DMC5 exists is not because DmC was a failed reboot, its because Ninja Theory refused Capcoms request to make a sequel and signed a contract with Microsoft. DmC2 had a green light, both Capcom and Itsuno wanted it, but because of Capcom not allowing Ninja Theory to have creative freedom, they bailed for another company. The problems Ninja Theory went through are the same problems people have with DmC. They wanted to retain Dantes appearance and attitude from 1, Capcom said no dice, make everything as far removed from the original vision as possible. Make color coded enemies. Hes half angel half devil. Give Vergil a derby. Its on record Itsuno was so upset with how Capcom handled DmC that he threatened to quit the company as well, so they folded and said he could make one more and have full creative freedom. No matter what the cringey and braindead community states as fact, DmC is a fucking great game, and a great Devil May Cry game with the best atmosphere, and the best soundtrack. If Capcom suits werent so fucking dumb, we'd likely have TWO more games instead of a half assed special edition of 4, and DMC5 at this point. Thank you for your time... and enjoy the diamond the community forced in the rough that is DmC: Devil May Cry

I can't believe it. Ninja Theory is an indie company and needed financial support. But also they needed creative freedom. I know they did say they thought they were gonna do dmc 5. They thought they were in collab to make a sequel. I would've been just as excited. But you know what despite the big changes, it was those changes that just made DmC too unique. And a direction that was missed entirely.

Finally, even how much i like the original dmc, i prefer music on dmc reboot more and levels on dmc reboot is actually better compared to original. I played the reboot just to experience how bad it is (i actually hated it when i try to played it). But throughout midgame i realized, its actually a great game with just a Devil May Cry's title name!! With the new dmc 5 been created, it might make me forgive the reboot. But now, i didn't mind if Ninja Theory make a sequel but as long its a parallel universe.
@audrey9able
@audrey9able 5 күн бұрын
It's always been a parallel universe. It's been its own continuity from the start. I particularly never understood how vitriolic the hatred is for this game. When all of the first four games have been so different from one another. And so inconsistent anyway from the very beginning. DMC overall was not much on Capcom's eyes, which is unfair. Trying to reboot it had been both a business and artistic endeavor. And despite being its only title DmC manages to at least have a semblance of a cohesive timeline and narrative. DMC has been vague, has non-canon and retconned stuff. DMC overall as a franchise really is just a combat game. That's it's best merit, aside from a fantasy machismo character that's also notoriously been retconned via DMC 3 because of Reuben Langdon. I do understand DMC has potential to be deep, but that's not its point nor its goal, which is too bad.

I have not played Callisto Protocol but I watched some of the reviews on KZbin regarding it. I think the problems of the scares in the game is due to how it is being depicted aside from the obvious power fantasy the game offers to the player by providing them with melee mechanics that enemies are deprived of countering which causes it to be artificially predictable but we will go on that later. Horror is subjective, what may seem scary to us may not be scary to others, but i think the definition of horror is boiled down into this; horror is about the exposure of audience and victimization of characters to existential deterioration that derives from culminations of disfigurement towards normality, clarity, obfuscation, rationality, safety, values and control; keep in mind that the term disfigurement on an interdisciplinary contexts, meaning that the way i use this word are not just limited to the physical alteration but also to mental and abstract ideas to which we rely upon to decide if certain matters are safe or not. In Callisto Protocol, the most explicit type of disfigurement it utilizes are the values of bodily integrity with its biological norms, and safety. The game’s setting takes place in the space prison ( Black Iron Prison ) of Jupiter's moon, Callisto, where a wide spread infestation of biological outbreak came with it. Enemies are mutated humans with horrible deformations called Biophages, immediately setting it as a disfigurement of values stemming from bodily integrity and biological norms; while the deterioration of safety comes from their attacks. Despite this, it is just not enough to evoke horror from the game likely due to the uses of jumpscares that are not just overused but so artificial it is predictable, yes this is a direct display of disfigurement in safety but it felt so “choreographed” that it took away the authentic scares the game potentially have. We fear of disfigurements ( physical, mentally and abstractly ) but we fear more on the absence of needed information in the form of clarity which can be overshadowed by obfuscations, or in other words fear of the unknown; imagine hearing some inhuman sounds emanating from the vent but does not reveal what it actually is or in a more mundane context, just picture a crocodile sinking its head underwater where you cannot grasp precisely what it will do but you know enough of its nature to be predatory but not about its current intentions. I think that is what's missing in Callisto Protocol, the game prefers artificially overused jumpscares instead of having to force us to understand the unfathomable. Going to melee combat and how its power fantasy can drastically reduce the scare factors of Biophages, i will only mention the suggestion that i can think of to make each encounter to be tense. Perhaps you can add the deterioration state of the baton the longer you use it for combat encounters, where the lower it reduces the lesser damage it gives to the targeted enemy. Regarding on the enemy interaction with melee-based combat, have the enemy do something when getting melee attacked by the player such as doing what Jacob does when seeing an attack ( dodge left or right ), feint a stagger to lure the player’s choice to blow a strike only to get hit by the targeted enemy’s devastating blow to the player, and have them react with deflecting the incoming swing of the player’s baton but make sure the character is disoriented instead of reverting him back to his ready to attack stance such as being pushed back as the enemy might charge forward or have him staggered as he try to recalibrate himself with his baton. These are just my suggestions but perhaps this could help lean it closer to the survival horror genre although other aspects are still missing.

First Devil may Cry game I ever played and easily in my top 3 along with DMC 3 and 5, I understand why people don’t like it, because it’s cringe and gritty and not as “fun” as the others but to me that’s what it’s supposed to be, it doesn’t take itself seriously, in fact it constantly leans into the cringe. I would love a sequel to this game however I don’t think it’ll happen which dose make me sad, but maybe if we can get five then we can get a sequel to this one, and maybe just maybe devils, do actually cry
