I use a non coated version serial number 337561 which I use on my D600 and works great , the best source of information on older Nikon is the Moose Peterson Nikon System Handbook which now out of print can be found on ebay and have a very comprehensive list of part numbers.

I own this same camera. I purchased it off eBay for $45 in excellent condition in 2022. Yes the meter works. Out of the 20 or so similar cameras I own from that era I will say this is the sharpest and one of my all time favorites. The mechanical winder and shutter release are second to none. Buy one if you can.

Great comparisons! Don’t often see that analysis. Another lens with similar specs is the MC / MC Minolta 35mm f1.8 w.rokkor but it is expensive and not a pancake.

Voltage adapted is like measuring distances with a strip of rubber that is not 30 cm long but 40 cm adapted.

I'm sorry you got a bum specimen but I honestly think you're being unfair. My FC-1 (never serviced) is absolutely fine and meters perfectly. The only features I miss is DOF preview and the possibility to use a standard cable release.

It's probably worth saying for the benefit of others that you can get a centre orientated tripod mount ( AH-3) not cheap but has 3 centre threads and large silver screw head to bolt on to camera.... nuff said........

Some pre AI 28mm 2.0 could include a radioactive lens. They are getting pretty yellow with time. Mine was under UV light like 3 or 4 months 24/24h. Prototypes ? Same story as the 35mm 1.4 ? Hard to tell bc not only thorium lens go yellow or brown with time

Mine is inscribed: NIKKOR-N.C Auto 1:1.4 f=35mm 370907. It features 7 blades. That would mean it was produced in 1977 with lens curvature improved for shooting at 1.4? Nice lens to use!

Both this camera and the Belomo Vilia in the ever-ready cases are my go to for keeping on me and taking out it terrible weather. They are absolute tanks and I'm happy with the results they provide.

Thank you very much! Some say the P is way better but I did not get why. Now I see that the 7 is what I'm buying :) I love my FED-5B, but it's viewfinder is a pain and I'd like to have 35 mm so this is why I want to get the Canon 7 :) Hope to do it in a week or less.

The mirror is missing? That's a rather disqualifying defect. I hope the seller listed it as "as-is" or otherwise indicated the camera is non-functional. I suppose a good tech could repair it if he had a donor parts camera with a compatible mirror.

If you bought it off KEH, they would have done an appraisal on it. I'm guessing you bought it with an "AS-IS" appraisal, which explicitly states "not guaranteed to work."

FYI ppl in future; if the base doesn’t fit/close when using AA batteries; you need Nikon part number MB-3. Or you can buy their AAA battery holder that came with it from the factory (Google: Nikon MB-4 AAA Battery Holder (N2020/2000)) Also looks like someone made an open source STL file MB-3/AA battery cover you can print. ❤ hello from the past! 2024 is wild!
