My pleasure! And thank you for bringing the tessar in c/y mount to my attention; I hadn't been aware of it.

I'm glad you reviewed this lens. It is my favorite Konica lens to date. I shoot it on my model TC. A great light weight combo I chose on sunny and contrast light situations.

Great and thorough review- Thank you. I've truly enjoyed this lens a lot on my T3. The 40/1.8 and the 57/1.2 spend the most time on the front of the camera

The Konica 40/1.8 is the 🐐... The Pentax 40/2.8 has seen a price increase in the last three years, prices ranging from $150-$250 now... Used with an MX or ME Super it’s hard to beat. Fantastic lens.

Great comparisons! Don’t often see that analysis. Another lens with similar specs is the MC / MC Minolta 35mm f1.8 w.rokkor but it is expensive and not a pancake.

Check out the Voigtlander 40mm f/2 Ultron pancake version. Took my favorite photo of a CALFIRE air tanker drop then I sold it like an idiot. Now it is 3x what I sold it for. Plus you get a macro lens with it. Way smoother than my 40/1.8 Konica.

Brian, did a quick check on the price of the Zuiko 40mm f2 The going rate is around $2,000 - $3,000 depending on condition!!!! Shall I put your name down to reserve one?
@BriansPhotoShow3 жыл бұрын
Ouch! That's literally two orders of magnitude above the typical price for the Hexanon.
@thewildgoose74673 жыл бұрын
@@BriansPhotoShow It's absolutely crazy! For the same price you could put together a complete 2/3 body mint condition Nikon system with some of the best Nikkor and Voigtlander MF lenses ever produced. I recently bought a brand new Voigtlander Ultron 40mm f2 for $440 which I reckon would out perform the Zuiko.
@punkrachmaninoff3 жыл бұрын
@@thewildgoose7467 The Konica probably outperforms the Zuiko and the Voightländer though, for $20.
@thewildgoose74673 жыл бұрын
@@punkrachmaninoff Doubt that the Konica would outperform the Voigtlander, but I have both so at some stage I might have a "battle of the 40mm's". I know what I'm not going to do though, spend mad money on a 2nd hand 40mm Zuiko. This is coming from someone who owns some nice Zuiko lenses which were acquired at a reasonable price. Even what is generally regarded as the sharpest Zuiko (I owned one and it was VERY sharp) the 100mm f2 is selling for $700-$800, so why would anyone pay 3-4 times that for a 40mm? I just don't get it...

Hello Brian . Great informative review . From your list I'm using the minolta 45mm f2 and it gives me great resualts .I compare it with nikon 50mm f1.4 afd at the same fstop and on wider aperture minolta has better perfonmace and from f8 onward they are the same . I think the difference between f2 & f1.8 is 1/3 stop and it's not really significant. BUT one of the most collectible and rare minolta lenses is absent on your list . Minolta Rokkor-TD 45mm f2.8 with 130g weight and 17mm length. Regards.

A great lens for sure. Chinon had a 45mm F2.8,. that seems ok.

Does your lens have a little rattle when you use it?
@BriansPhotoShow2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does have a wee bit of a rattle now that you mention it.
@hansemannluchter643 Жыл бұрын
I have 2, a slightly used and a mint NOS that came boxed with a FP-1. They both rattle, it's probably just how it is..

The Zuiko 40mm f/2 is certainly available; but at $1,900-$2,500 it is not a lens that I would consider.

I've just realized just that you didn't mention the Industar 50-2 3.5 in M42 mount. It's a sharp little thing with Tessar design, of course it's a 50mm 3.5 but it deserves to be mentioned since you're talking about other 50mm lenses. The Industar is the smallest lens available for full frame and it's dirty cheap too. Nothing is more pancake than this!
@unclefester65013 жыл бұрын
Also Voigtlander has 20mm/3.5 and 28mm/2.8 pancakes. Stopped production 4 years ago so they are spendy now, $800 instead of $300.

Please don't buy this just to use on your apsc sensor... There are plenty of chinese lenses for your specific mount that are sharper lighter faster or have the "vintage look"
