I assume the reason why the home of the Nie clan is called the Unclean Realm is because the family started out as butchers, as in cutting up the corpses of cows and pigs, making their place of residence covered in blood or "unclean" who learned a form of unorthadoxed cultivation. Their cultivation puts resentful energies into their sabres, making the sabres "Unclean". But that is just a guess.

Lan Zhan isn't an alcoholic. He's just hilarious when he is drunk. Wei Wuxian is an alcoholic. Also, a nice little easter egg Huaisang's fan has a poem written on it that roughly translates to "I'm not of this world". Take that as you will.

Not me in the comments simping for Xue Yang's actor 😂 For real though, he's fantastic. His first "big" role before this one was as a comedic relief side character, and he was a lead in another straight-up comedy series. He's got great comedic timing and seems to have a lot of fun with it, so hopefully he gets more work like that in the future!
@ThatRandomJАй бұрын
Fun fact. Most of the male cast originally auditioned for Xue Yang first before they were cast as their characters. Even Xiao Zhan who plays Wei Wuxian says that if he was given the chance to play a different character he'd want to play Xue Yang.

That one group interview where Wang Haoxuan (Xue Yang's actor) finds that out is so cute. He's very 😳about it. (And is also seemingly a very quiet, shy person irl, which just makes it even funnier that he plays this part so well. Actors, everyone!)

In addition to that, I think it's also part of being a cultivator. They seem to be more resilient than normal folks. Meng Yao survived being stabbed through the chest, after all. Xue Yang, who's not even a "proper" cultivator, holds his own later as well, long after he should've been down for the count. They're just built different, I guess lol

I agree with you about Lady Yu. She's fiery and short-tempered, much of her anger is misdirected, yet she has a right to be upset. "Immortal cultivators" doesn't mean that they're literally immortal the way we'd think in Western culture. The goal of cultivation (aka martial arts and "magic", to define it somewhat simplistically) is to become immortal and ultimately ascend to godhood. Cultivators reach a point where they stop aging and therefore become "immortal", but that just means that they live for a very long time and could technically live forever IF nobody killed them, not that they're immune to being killed. This is also why everyone from the older generations in the donghua looked like they were in their mid twenties despite having adult children. They just stopped aging because they were very strong. The Untamed hired older actors for the older characters, so that makes it not be as obvious unless you remember that everybody from the main cast still looks very young in their mid-late thirties. The Chinese goverment doesn't like all of this to be depicted in live action dramas, so they always censor it in adaptations. As for the common folk in these type of stories, they don't really understand how cultivation works so, whenever they talk about cultivators, they tend to think that they've all reached that strength/cultivating threshold, since they all look extraordinary and powerful from their point of view. It's just one of those things where you need to know a bit about Chinese mythology and tropes if you don't want to be confused. Also, the reason why they didn't understand why Wen Qing cared so much about that village is that, while the translation saying "grandma" is not entirely incorrect, "popo" doesn't necessarily refer to your biological grandmother. It's just like how an older gentleman can be referred to as "uncle", or someone close to your age can be your "brother" or "sister". That lady isn't Wen Qing's biological grandmother; she's just an older woman from her clan whom she respects, so she calls her "popo". Other translations for this show use "madam" instead of "grandma".

Loving the reactions so far! Just some clarifications about their ages: The Untamed messed up the timeline quite a lot, probably because of Jin Ling (the nephew). He was supposed to be 14 in the current timeline, but they made him be 16 instead. I imagine that that's because of the fact that his actor is literally the same age as Lan Wangi's actor, so it would've been hard to make him look even younger. And it's also easier to work with adult actors rather than teenagers, but that does make it confusing if you haven't read the novel first. Basically, their ages are actually as follows: In the present time (before and after the flashback), Lan Wangji is 36. Wei Wuxian would've been a few months younger, and Jiang Cheng is younger than Wei Wuxian by a few months too, so he's likely 35-36 too. The flashback starts when they're around 15-16. Jiang Yanli is 2-3 years older than them. So instead of "16 years ago" the flashback starts more like 20 years ago in the novel. By the time Wei Wuxian dies, several years have passed, and he's resurrected 13 years later. So there's about 7 years of events between the Cloud Recesses arc and Wei Wuxian's death, which means that he died at 22-23. The Untamed actually omits a lot of time skips, so it looks like a lot less time has passed. It doesn't help that they said that this was 16 years ago and that Wei Wuxian *also* died 16 years ago. That's a direct error since they already said that they spent 6 months in the Cloud Recesses and, as you'll be seeing going forward, it's not the first time they declare how much time has passed between events. Hope this cleared up your confusion somewhat!

This is still before the Sunshot campaign. Nie Mingjue gets corrupted later on after Wei Wuxian's death. Also, just a quick difference between The Untamed and the Donghua is Meng Yao's role. Meng Yao was introduced much earlier in the story in The Untamed, so they stuck him with Nie Mingjue. In the Donghua, Meng Yao isn't introduced until the Sunshot Campaign, which is where he meets Nie Mingjue for the first time.

The way they tell the story I call "Hänzel & Gretel", they are spreading the bread crumbs so hard. It's brilliant. The show is actually made to watch in a loop, in my opinion. Also, confusion is a big part of the story telling. It isn't ment to be alway understand right away. They could have shown Meng Yao as they mentioned him, but the explicitly choose not to. He is only a side character at this point and shouldn't get too much attention. Just accept stuff like that and give the show time. I normally over analyze stuff, but here I'd say "trust the story and just enjoy the ride". So much better of an experience. Even as you have seen the other version before, try to let the show surprise you. Thats also for the people that, in my opinion are spoiling too much in the comments. Don't do that. She already knows too much.

About Baoshan Sanren, who's still alive: she's the Immortal Master who raised Wei Wuxian's mother and also Xiao Xingchen (the soon-to-be-blind guy). Wei's mother, Cangse Sanren, left their mountain home long ago, married Wei's father, and was killed in a night hunt when Wei was 4 years old. And so technically Baoshan Sanren is Wei's clan master, although he has never met her. I can see how easily you might confuse CANGSE Sanren for BAOSHAN Sanren, but they're two different women.

Huaisang is a funny contradiction. He is stronger than non-cultivators just by being a cultivator (hence him being able to push away puppets +/- easily) and his clan is one of warriors. But he himself hates fighting and while he knows how to use one, he doesn’t carry his sword. Young him (flashback him) is a little bit of a coward as well - we all know what it takes for him to grow a pair and become… what he does become.* I love him and seeing him so young and bubbly and whiny hurts when you know. Hope KZbin will stop giving you hell every time and that real life problems lessen in numbers. Great reaction as always. (*Note that I use grow a pair while simultaneously believing not everyone needs to be brave and it was more to color my point than anything else.)

In the book it is stated that the compass the guy was using was a prototype design and WWX had made better ones later on and fixed the bugs with the original. In the books he was an inventor. Totally a mad scientist. He even invented the spirit flags, and the paper man, and the empathy technique. In this version of the story he even invents a couple more things than he did in the book. MX, the guy who sacrificed himself to bring WWX back, is Jin Ling's uncle, not cousin. He's one of the many bastard of Jin Ling's grandfather (jin guashan? something like that). I'm not sure, but I think in the book it states MX was too young to fight in the war.

Loving your reactions 💕 Welcome to the world of C-dramas where an episode ends on an abrupt cut edit even as a character is in mid speech 🤣 You’ll never get a resolved ending to a plot in one episode. C-dramas typically make money per episodes hence the long length of them and the random endings. The boys are suppose to be about 16 when they were at Gusu. Hence all the immaturity. I know you didn’t show the clip in your video but the flower petals falling on LWJ comes directly from the novel and was an Easter egg for the novel fans 🤭 Though the reason for him being showered by petals is different in the novel 🤭 Can’t wait to go on this journey with you.

They are all teenagers, basically. And Wei Wuxian is just annoying (i mean that with love), mischievous, and enjoys teasing Lan Wangji. To me, it is clear that Wei Wuxian much prefers inventing new talismas and spells (and drinking and flirting, and chilling) to cultivating the "right way" all the time. Not being related to the Jiangs by blood and the clan's vibe being more lax than the other clans makes such behavior more acceptable. Although he's obviously a smart and naturally skilled cultivator with a strong core. All this to say that Wei Wuxian wasn't exactly known for his swordsmanship. But he is good! Lan Wangji, on the other hand, is a skilled swordsman and has a VERY high cultivation level. They are a bit green here, though. Still more talented than most of their peers. Nie Huaisang is the name you couldn't remember!

I would guess that Wei WuXian, Lan Zhan, Cheng and Nie Huaisang are all about 16 years old, which would explain some of the immature behavior we see, especially on Wei's part. Lan Zhan, however, has been trained to be very serious and responsible and so APPEARS older than his contemporaries. Elder Sister Yanli is maybe 18 or 19 whereas Lady Wen is probably the same age, or at least close in age, to the boys. Wen Ning is still too young to attend lectures at the school, which would make him younger than 15. I'm enjoying your videos!
