From reading and talking to Beranek, I think that’s called a triangle cut and a true coos is a hinge Mohawk turned 90°. Two side cuts, no face, back cut. I used GOL a lot last summer on very dead oaks that would rain branches as soon as they moved. Other than that it’s mostly too slow IMO.

I see that you still have a JD steering wheel emblem, if it's the original one deer with four legs. That would be collectible now there are hard to find.

I understood a coos bay to be one cut from each side leaving a Mohawk 90° to a normal hinge, then cut from the back.

2.5 gallon pressurized water can with Cold Fire/water mix or even a dish soap/water mix is what i keep in my truck. I do have a 5lb abc extinguisher but havent really used it. I was a firefighter/emt for years and those water cans are handy.

When you get your machine to full capacity does it load down and engine change rpm or sound like it has a load against it?
@northmanlogging27695 ай бұрын
a little you can feel it but it not like its trying to stall or anything, the hydro's slow down more then the motor. My ELS system is still mostly functional though. IF yers having issues, check yer fuel filters.

Nice fellin job. Nice to see a big saw workin on a tree it was built for. You have a limited coil on your 84 ? Good watch. Now I know why old timers used springboards for a cutting platform above butt & root tapper. You were not having fun walking around tree. Good watch. Hope last summer & this fall has been good to you.
@northmanlogging276910 ай бұрын
not sure if the 084 is limited... the spring board thang was to get above the hard swell butts, and to be able to stand on level ground and swing an axe, Me... I got a mangled leg, and should probably be doing something else for a living...

Bet the machine never had a cab on it when they built it. Was pretty common in the jammer days. Looks like a stand up (operator stands) jammer. Where did you find this? Might be out of the harrison shop, they built a lot of stand up jammers.

yeah... this is more for the gyppos out there that are always calling and whining about only getting 2500bf on a truck... (some hyperbole but you get the idea) I generally load up to weight (or a wee over...) so if it don't match their expectations ...?
@AmateurLogger11 ай бұрын
Do you buy your timber standing or pay the landowner as you cut on shares? I'm a east coast gypo and I get into a lot of backyard jobs, everything in my area is purchased standing. it's definitely hard to figure out what to offer somebody on those smaller tracts vs a more conventional logging job with easy truck and equipment access
@northmanlogging276911 ай бұрын
as rule I work on percentage, mills write the checks, so there is rarely any issues, purchased standing is a good way for one side of the other to lose money, or feel like they've lost money, but you also are sort of bound to what is common in your area, the smaller projects you have to account for moving equipment. 1000's of ways to make a deal lol, Personally I like having the accountability of the mills writing the checks, if I lose money on a job its on me, if the LO doesn't like what they are getting paid, then they can cut me off (which has happened, but not often, generally folks want me to cut more then originally agreed on)
