I really enjoyed the Joker 2 film. The musical sequences I thought worked. They're clever, because Arthur is pathetic he has no imagination, the sequences are just him imagining himself singing his favorite love songs. Has a vibe of sitting alone, being lonley, drinking coffee, and listening to the cafe's jukebox.
@moviesshapedpod2 ай бұрын
That's an interesting take on why the musical sequences were designed in the way they were, and does make sense. I guess I was just hoping they would give more energy into a movie that was moving so slowly, also I am bias as someone who doesn't like jukebox musicals. thanks for listening and sharing your thoughts! - Alex
@1001johny2 ай бұрын
@@moviesshapedpod Well the film is a Tragedy. The vibe of the film I think is meant to be tempered to a slow burn and not quick-paced. The musical elements are also a commentary on different types of entertainment, but used for irony.
@moviesshapedpodАй бұрын
@@1001johny good point, it was certainly a tragedy. I felt that Phillips went overboard on the bleakness to make it engaging, but as you pointed out that was probably the point. Thanks again for the listen! - Alex

When ilya flips open the face of the watch to do a line of cocaine before its blown away by the open window, that was a sweet scene and so was his other scene when they shoot their way into the hotel. He tosses a rose on the clerk right after theyve been killed and its very cartoon

Interesting podcast. You may be interested to know that Emily's original career goal was to be a character actress. She revealed that in a SAG-AFTRA career retrospective moderated by Perri Nemiroff. EB cited the Prada film as being very helpful in getting those parts. Her diversity of roles and genres has been intentional, since she doesn't wasn't to repeat or get typecast. I get the flaws in The Fall Guy, but I enjoyed it anyway. (I'm an older person who hasn't been an avid movie goer in recent decades. I do wonder if there's a generational divide in that movie's appeal.)
@moviesshapedpod6 ай бұрын
glad you enjoyed our podcast! That's very interesting about her original career goals and it makes sense that was her original intent if you look at her career now. The big "what if" for me and Emily is that she was cast as Black Widow in the MCU but Fox (due to her deal to be in Prada) blocked the casting and forced her to be in another Fox movie instead. Always curious about what would have happened to her career if she ended up in MCU. Thanks for listening! - Alex
