You know on this issue we had a large couch outside the unión office and we always invited drivers to share there issues over a coffee or talk about what they did during there weekends. And it worked well but we had a a senior director whom said it was WRONG and it shouldn’t happen he was terrible with myself. I acutely raised this during a meeting with senior directors and they all said it was a great idea 💡 and should perhaps be rolled out. The director who hated my idea was removed from is post for being nasty racist person on FB is own timeline. So sometimes we have great ideas. ❤

Excellent comments from Beverly bell and well presented peter. Being a mental health awareness first aider and having completed a diploma recently on this issue of mental health which i have to say now is included in the delivery DCPC and very important but great to see you have taken time to do this subject.

Use of the words “investigate” and “incident” inhibit implementation and acceptance. Which would you rather hear, “I’m here to investigate the incident”, or “Please help me understand the event so we can can see if some changes are required to make sure it doesn’t happen again” ?

Great video. Ran my haulage business in the eighties and nineties in the UK. Unfortunately what puts me off now is the regulations gone mad. Love the trucks but not what comes with the job. Also the state of our roads and getting from AtoB a nightmare 😩

Great discussions and excellent guidance to become a cpc trainer and centre. I am planning to attend a trainer course (PCV/PSV) in 2 weeks time. this will be very useful for me to gain some experiences beforehand. Cost of gaining qualification is bit high, so always thinking is it worth to doing? for PSV perspective, I still have doubt in my mind, not many companies there and different from HGV market. Thank you john for sharing invaluable experiences

I worked for Travis Perkins as a hiab driver ie lorry loader they had a top down approach it all looked good on paper but like many businesses they always ticked the boxes on the paperwork but skipped the practical in reality. The only thing that's made a difference in terms of safety is mandatory health and safety or yacho regulations and heath and safety regulations anything outside of that was localised via drivers like myself that were isolated as the sales came before best practice my efforts to explain they are connected fell on deaf ears. I'm now a self employed driving instructor which is much more satisfying

Thanks Peter, it’s something relevant for our business. I put together and delivered driver refresher training whilst our official trainer has been poorly, but it’s an area I’m looking to train for myself.

hi just listened to both pods and thought that you covered the quitting part well but financially you should be in a position to quit and a great read about this is the 'the psychology of money' and it kind of follows the premise of looking after the pennies to look after the pounds

Very sticky subject this with few TMs probably wanting to admit they stick around a little longer than they should due to having bills to pay 😅 but I think we've all had at least one client who's given them the 'learnt by bitter experience' tag!

Mike, I was always informed of the 'left card at home then go home and get it' rule. Until one of our drivers left his at home and then drove. He reported it as missing to DVLA but when he was asked if he wanted to order another one he said no. The following day he reported his card as found to DVLA. They said they would remove the missing marker from it and he could use it again. Obviously this is contrary to anything I was ever told., So I checked with DVLA and they told me that this is in face correct. So long as you have not ordered a replacement card then they can move the lost marker from your card and actually mark it as despatched. A total flaw if you ask me.

I passed my PSV 30 years ago before CPC began but never used it on the civilian network or under paid conditions. Next week I am to take part 2 and 4 of the CPC then I'm onto vehicle familiarisation prior to employment. I have no idea if that is enough or not. I would have expected some driver orientation under supervision to compliment part 2 and 4

Class 1 driver for 25 years and I'm telling you now it has to go, nobody wants it it's a total waste of time. It should only apply to new drivers. Also they need to reduce the daily work from 15 hours to 12 hours a day unless your tramping. Guess what there would not be a driver shortage that's what the dick heads at department of transport cant understand, fucking get rid.
