@@Ann-lj4nn not 100% sure that you mean by that. How to use a sprite sheet as the animation asset?
@Ann-lj4nn

@@MarcoValeKaz "A sprite sheet is a bitmap image file that contains multiple smaller graphics arranged in a tiled grid. Developers can use sprite sheets to combine multiple frames or animations of a sprite into a single file, which can reduce the time it takes to load and render individual assets. This technique can also help optimize performance and reduce memory usage in games" -- I'm not a hundred percent certain on all of the terminology but what I'd like to learn how to do is basically little frame by frame animations that when played with a script in game with x and y tile values, give you one whole animation. Like making looping snow, rain etc..

Tip regarding Mistake Number 3: consider having your game setup around a 360x640 resolution (that is, the game screen is 360 pixels tall, 640 pixels wide). That gives a Widescreen setup that also cleanly scales into most modern screens: 720p is 2x, 1080p is 3x, 1440p is 4x, and 2160 is 6x This also gives you a lot more room onscreen than the older SNES and Genesis games (224px tall), but is still much less than Standard Definition on things like Playstation 2 (480px tall)

In this instance, the resolution should only be measured in pixels. And you use enough to draw what you need. Dpi also doesn't factor into it for two reasons. 1: its not going to print, 2: if it is, it will be included in a vector file, like illustrator, where its going to be resampled in point filter, so it doesn't blue when it's scaled to the needed size

Mario is from the 80s. Back at that time, and even up to the 2000 we used analog TVs that used a laser? to draw to the screen. Back at that time there was no Pixel Art being as crisp as the right version of Mario. Everything looked up like the left version. That's also why we remember games looking better. Todays digitial TVs with LCD/TFT makes it sharperbut also looks worse, especially Pixel Art. So what is true Pixel Art? What we think about it today, or how it really was? Is there really a right or wrong in art?
@MarcoValeKaz
@MarcoValeKaz 10 ай бұрын
There is a right or wrong in relation to the platform you are aiming for. Old sprites weren't designed in a crisp tft to be shown in a crt. They were designed on the same crt. Today, to get the same effect, you can use some really nice shaders to get a period accurate blur or bleed.

@@MarcoValeKaz Platform in the sense of PC, Console etc.? I think it is more about what art style i want to choose. I also could restrict myself to CGA colors on a modern PC if i want todo so, even if i could show billions of colors at the same time. Then i for example want to use dithering. It's neither right or wrong, more about the restriction i give myself. We also could otherswise say that pixel art is wrong. Why choose so less pixels for art when we have displays with millions of pixels?
@MarcoValeKaz
@MarcoValeKaz 10 ай бұрын
@@David_Raab I think that's more now an issue of art direction. Picking restrictions doesn't make something wrong or right. And art direction and can play a lot with all aspects of trends, methods, or even pipelines, for a specific aesthetic vision. What I dont think, is that a begginer, will have the mind clarity to be thinking of that while still learning pixelart. And those are pretty much the ones this video is for, the mistakes begginers make. Once you have for grounding, playing with conventions is exactly what leads you to finding your style

@@MarcoValeKaz Reminds me of learning music. You learn accords and the restriction of how chords play together. Later with more experience you learn to break the rules. On the other hand that is the way western or classical musicians do it. When you learn Blues, Jazz and so on you break the (classic) rules directly from the beginning. I guess there are just different ways to learn something.

All 10 of the mistakes you're making with pixel art is using pixel art in the first place. Pixel art needs to die off this isn't the fucking 80s anymore it's just downright uninspired lazy bullshit. And yet they're still going to charge you $20 or $30 for the game that looks like it runs on a 30 year old console. Seriously people need to stop supporting developers who decide to use pixel art. If developers do make games that are pixel art they should be worth nothing more than $5 at the absolute most and that's being extremely generous.

@@MarcoValeKaz It seems to me that we need to try to make fewer strokes, because when we spend one stroke, and then another next to it, then in the place where they overlapped each other, the color becomes darker and a stripe is obtained that is very striking .. great looking animation! Aseprite is great for pixel art, but it does have a lot of very hidden or sometimes unintuitive features. i always have trouble moving things around in it as well, it seems easier in Photoshop. i think what you needed to do was to select the area you want to move and just click and drag it to the position you want. if you use the move tool it moves everything in the layer or frame. moving things in multiple frames is even trickier and just doesn't seem to work right half the time for me. it has some quirks, but once you get used to them and learn useful keyboard shortcuts working with it is much faster. i'm not sure what the default is (i might have changed it myself), but i use the arrow keys and/or the comma and period (< >) keys to flip through animation frames.
