Kudos to all the people responding here with comments. We’re all of the same opinion, this AA captain Dickhead should be reprimanded to his chief pilot and be required to take remedial training on how to be a decent person and then how to be a decent leader as captain of crew. But did I get this a bit wrong, was this a problem first officer making the bad decisions? Still applies to all pilots.

Just do what ATC tells you to do. Go to ground when they tell you. Taxi where they tell you. It's not that difficult. (unless you're an arrogant moron!)

Do I detect a grumpy old man who should not be a pilot? I'm 70 and I find him offensive and not suitable to be in command of an aircraft.

Usually solo's instructor will stand on the field and use a hand held radio to talk to the student. The transmit power from a handheld might not be enough power for her to hear her instructor.

We can laugh. But an attitude like that from the pilot will cause an accident one day. Stay humble "sorry for any confusion" taxi on straight

For all the pilots out there, what’s the phone number he has to call and why is it a big deal (or not)?
@steven21457 сағат бұрын
The phone number is the tower's phone number that is recorded and being told to call the tower can be the first step in a "certificate action" which would be like a traffic ticket except a fine is pretty much unheard of but a black mark on your record and a license suspension or a suspension pending additional training is more common. If you are humble and admit you made a boo boo often times you just get a talking to and a slap on the wrist with no black mark. The pilot wasn't give the equivalent of a Miranda warning (in FAA land it is called a Brasher warning) when the controller asked him to call him so it is probably just something they they wanted to take off the radio so it doesn't block up the radio with the back and forth. The video was cut off but if a pilot says he isn't going to call, I would imagine it would be upgraded to a "Brasher" and a certificate action.

ATC issued several instructions without using the full callsign - until they got a 2 x 4 up the backside. We can assume a supervisor walked in and then it became the pilot's fault....

That pilots attitude will eventually kill someone. Maybe next time, he should follow instructions and not just taxi anywhere he wants with no clearance...
@AvgDude9 сағат бұрын
1. Do not change to ground until the tower tells you to turn to ground. 2. Exit where they tell you to exit. 3. Don’t waste time arguing because other pilots need ATC attention.

How to turn "My apologies ground, sorry about that." into "Certificate action? What do you mean certificate action?!"
@NosajDEroom11 сағат бұрын
I hangar at and fly out of a class C airport (the capital of Australia), which ALSO has an airforce base (VIP jets). I have never heard any of the RPT or military pilots carry on like that (his responsibility to manage fuel). Sometimes you may need manoeuvres or vectoring for sequencing - but it works really well. I hope the Chief Pilot at AA has given him a word or two on "airmanship".

@webcucciolo8 сағат бұрын
Not exactly, ATC cleared him to taxi to Juliet, he instead took another route and taxied on Golf (where there might be personnel or other issues, and ATC needs to know where you are going). When tower asked him why he was going a different way, he replied "the guy in the backseat told me that I need to go this way to go to my favorite FBO, so I decided to not let you know, to ignore your instructions, and to taxi where you did not clear me. Oh, and by the way I decided that you weren't even worth letting you know and ask for a clearance to this other taxiway, you should have read my mind".
