i thought they usually mute part of the number that the pilots have to call, the full number caught me off guard. Also "By the grace of God" is a weird way of saying "thank you" (even as a religious person, you should acknowledge the people who helped you, regardless of the supposed higher power that guided you/them throughout the situation).

A handheld VHF is a staple in my flight bag, with some common frequencies programmed, and usually the relevant route frequencies either memorized or written on a traditional kneeboard. Also have some national ATC phone numbers in my cellphone, that could refer me to whichever controller I need to talk to at the time. Finally, a flashlight for the instruments at night. Am I missing anything?

The Air Safety Institute did a real pilot story about this. Btw, does anyone know exactly what the pilot was worried was going to kill him? Was it spatial disorientation from the instruments failing, or getting lost and running out of fuel from the navigation equipment failing?

Two missed approaches in weather with no instruments and a bingo fuel diversion to a random closest airfield with no radio no radar and way to turn the lights on. Not a lot of those problems can be solved by the pilot in the air, they got very very lucky the controller was able to get them on the phone

That blur at the end doesn't last the whole time. You should also be aware that blurring isn't enough to actually hide the information from people who are dedicated enough, as they can always guess and check with a computer if the font is known.

Guard frequency is 121.5 MHz(for civilian aircraft) which is an emergency frequency. A pilot should switch to this frequency during emergencies due to it being actively monitored by ATC and airliners. However, it still uses the same radio, so if the radio fails for whatever reason it is no longer operative.
