I'm new to manga collecting, and while I probably don't currently have much space for manga, I think I will have space. Anyway, my goal is probably to start small. Later on in the future, when I do have more space, I'll truly start collecting. My goal overall would be to collect series that look really interesting to me, and of which I think I'll like them and will want to reread at least once. I can always resell if I didn't like it as much as thought I would. My first physical manga was Death Note. I watched the anime a long time ago and liked it. Bought 2 volumes of the black edition. Currently close to finishing the first one.

I need to look for The Horizon, because I do like some dark stories about survival in a world that's clearly not something out of a cutesy romance. That and it sounds pretty underrated, which gives it another point for me.
