Good videos, Paul, as always! I love searching for forgotten places but in Britain you have a lot more to find than I do in the USA. I'm jealous. btw Dalkey has silent L, like talky. The atmospheric terminal was at Barnhill Road, west of the middle of town, and parallel to the railway there is a short street called Atmospheric Road! (Bothar Atmaisfearach). There are two preserved atmospheric engine house buildings on the South Devon: Starcross (at the station) and Tor (south of Newton Abbot, next to a Lidl.)

Think about it this way, torque is the power of the punches, rpm is how fast you can punch, and horsepower is the total damage.

I dissagree blackpowder needs a longer barrel for its slower burn and gas pressure rate. You simply use less and it fixes the issue or pistols and my 28 inch barrel jaeger would not work. Factor rifling in as this greatly helps pressure to rise.

In 1934, Englishman Percy Shaw invented an ingeniously simple solution to a serious road safety problem. On dark or foggy twisting roads without street lighting, it could be difficult for motorists to stay safely in their lane. To reduce crashes and accidents, Shaw encased four glass beads inside a flexible rubber dome with a steel base. These reflecting road studs, nicknamed cat’s eyes, were fitted every few paces along the middle of a road. The glass beads reflected vehicle headlights and marked out the two sides of the road, without needing a power source. Millions have been manufactured ever since.

Great explanation. Torque is an expression of twisting force with NO REGARD FOR SPEED. It could be at 0 rpm or 10,000 rpm. Horsepower is a more complete expression of performance, taking both torque and speed into account. As is common when speaking of car engines, torque is usually noted AT a particular speed. This is in fact all we need to compute HP, but the math is simply not completed. We could just as easily say that X engine makes 360 hp at 3500 rpm (its torque peak) and 500 hp at 6250 rpm (its hp peak). Graphing this curve really tells us a lot. We can double HP by either doubling torque OR by doubling the rpm at which the same torque is produced. Or more realistically, by increasing BOTH factors to a lesser degree. Assuming proper gearing, the engine with more horsepower will ultimately do work more quickly. OTOH, most of us don't operate street cars at their HP peak very often. It is unpleasant (to police at least) and hard on the engine. Low rpm and part throttle torque is useful in everyday cars because they spend so much of their time in that range.

Never ceases to amaze me how many people get this wrong. Torque is measured in lb-ft not ft-lbs. Ft-lbs is a measure of energy. T=FxR, F for force in lbs and R for radius in ft... lb-ft. Sorry, I don´t want to be ´that guy´ but this issue grinds my gears, so to speak.

Every city or state seems to have some sort of environmental issues going on. If it is not worrying about the ocean flooding a coastal city it will be mega drought and fires like in the southwestern usa. You just got be prepared and value your family and pets over items and stuff.
