Regular morels are also poisonous, & must be cooked to be edible. A woman recently died when a restaurant topped her sushi with morels.

It is a very beautiful flower. Doesn't take up a lot of space and propagate easily with the seeds. I'm in zone 5 and have them growing in full sun, part sun, part shade, and full shade. ❤
@landdrip25 күн бұрын
Did you save wild seeds or buy them? I may try this!
@michellecobb840324 күн бұрын
@landdrip It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure I purchased seeds online from either Michigan Bulb or Burpee. The seeds are miniscule, so perhaps try growing in starter pots. I gave some to my dad, and when they came up the next spring in a pot, he almost threw it in the compost because he thought it was a weed. You may not get flowers this year, but definitely will the next. They are so bright and beautiful, you'll not regret it. I've also been able to dig them up easily and transplant or share. If you direct sow, make sure to mark it because they can resemble a weed. When they come back in the spring, they are very low and tight to the ground. Good luck and enjoy! Edit I forgot to mention that I now just sow my own seeds every year. I haven't had to buy any since.

@@michellecobb8403 very helpful information, thanks for sharing Michelle. I’m looking to expand my knowledge around local plants, how to use what wants to grow in MI naturally, to add value to properties… both aesthetically and practically for wildlife. I’d say this checks those boxes. 🌺

are there any local herbivorous creatures that can feed on Japanese Knotweed and reduce its spread?
@landdripАй бұрын
If it’s growing on a farm or along a pasture, goats, cattle, etc are known to graze on it. It’s likely deer eat the young shoots, though it often grows along busy roads, which I’d imagine reduces this likelihood.

Trying to get rid of that %&#§µ in my garden (GER) for 3 years now (I only had 1 plant on 0,5 m²). The ultimate plant-plague as it's roots dig over 1 meter deep and any tiny piece of rhizome missed (1 cm is enough) will grow into another plant again, even from that far beneath the surface. AWFUL, awful crap!
@landdripАй бұрын
It’s often growing with Garlic Mustard too, which has the ability to kill every plant in the soil around it… they’re a problem for sure! Can’t eat enough of it.

I hate this thug of a weed with every fibre of my being. I live in the Japanese Knotweed hotspot of Britain, and I wouldn’t be surprised , in the World. It is virtually EVERYWHERE, and devalues your home even if it is not in your garden, but in close proximity. It is impossible to eradicate unless it is heavily sprayed for many years. Horrible stuff.
