hello graphics wizardy, could you do some video with some car sketch in photoshop?
@graphicswizardry2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ruben, I would love to do that but (my dark secret) I suck at doing cars. I'm working on it though and when I'm a lvl3000 boss at it I'll definitely do one. Maybe I should just do one that sucks so everyone else can feel better about theirs?

Glad you liked it, it's a bit of a cheat and it doesn't always work, but when it does it's pretty good!

You sir, deserve sooo many more subscribers. Something as simple as holding CTRL+ALT to adjust size and hardness of a brush is not taught really, even as a 4th semester graphic design major and already taken Graphic Design I and II, Digital Photography, Digital Imaging, and Video and Filmmaking, this shortcut was never taught in any of those courses. As a student TA this semester, I will most definitely refer to this tutorial for learning purposes to other students as well as my professor. Hats off to you and your abilities to teach.

First, let me say I love this technique! And your tutorials are always great. The issue I have with this particular one is the application of the light source in both the shadow and the primary image itself. The highlight on the image shows the light coming from the upper right and casting across. The interior right shadow is correct, but there is a shadow around the rear upper portion that would be lit similar to the front. (I suppose there could be a recess that would be cast in shadow, but there's no edge to the opening surface to indicate that. Based on the woodgrain rays, it looks to be a 90 degree edge, so there wouldn't be such a marked shadow.) There is also a highlight on the rear left that is either out of place or indicates a secondary light source, but that conflicts with the left outer edge edge and the interior right being cast in such deep shadow. The shadow application itself is also conveying multiple light sources that would be cancelled out by most of the light. The immediate shadow directly underneath the object is fine. But the softer shadows are in areas that would be cancelled out by the previously mentioned highlight sources. As a photographer, I'm always somewhat conflicted by the "artistic" application versus the way light really falls on an object. The technique itself is stellar, it just needs to be positioned properly. Final note, your reflection technique is beautiful! So many people struggle with "I inverted it, why doesn't it look right?" Or they duplicate the object and play around with transparency and graduated masks and warping trying to come up with something passible. This method solves all those problems in a single step! Brilliant! Hope you don't mind the comments. I think that if we're striving to help people achieve a sense of realism in their images, we need to take all these into consideration. Cheers.

I don't know if you made this for pros only, but you don't specify in many of the comands that you press and it's really confusing, specially when you are going that fast.

You have the best tuts. Followed along, imgur.com/Xy0PQV0 The only tweak I think I'd do is make one more path, of the entire object. That way You may be able to be looser with some of the fills, and in case you mess up (like I did) it'll hide anything outside of your designated areas.

That’s crazy good! Why not 3d render it and dynamically change the lighting? (Serious question)

🤔🤷🏻

Ok the real reason is, this isnt really intended as an alternative or replacement for 3d CAD stuff. The techniques are a modern version of traditional airbrushing rendering which predates CAD, and the idea is that you can get a fast visual of an idea very quickly. It's just a different way of working really, and in many ways it's a lot simpler. Although it looks like what I'm doing in the video is quite technical it really doesn't use anything particularly difficult or complex in either application - and when you get up to speed it is *fast*. Personally (because I'm not very good at it) I find working in 3d sometimes slightly limiting because I'm order to visualise something on screen you have to know the exact technical method to construct it in that application - if there is geometry that I don't know the exact technical method to construct, I might subconsciously discount it from the design to avoid the struggle. When you work in 2D, if you can imagine it, you can draw it, and you can paint it. So, really, it's just part of a complementary skillset. I think designers should have good skills in 2D and 3D - I've been working on the 3D stuff over the last year, but it will be a while until I'm as comfortable in CAD as I am doing these 2D renders.

What is this process called? Just rendering? Also how would I learn how to make mock up items...Not the template but the actual item. For example a cup. Is that called rendering? Like rendering a product cup FOR a mock up template?
