Excellent video series…THIS is Toyota carburetor school at its best… since 5:30 this morning, I have enjoyed the entire 7 videos…unless you have wanted or have been into the carb before, you will not believe how thorough this is…the entire 7 part set. 👍

After removing/cleaning the Aisan carb from an 87 pickup I could not for the life of me figure out why the secondary throttle plate wouldn't open when I turned the throttle all the way (when horizontal upright...it opened when the carb was upside down which confused me even more). Watched this video, tried pulling on the vacuum choke opener linkage while twisting the throttle and voila! 11 years afterwards - I can't thank you enough for keeping me from tearing apart the carb apart a 2nd time!

Hi! Many thanks for your video, it is very clear now that the membrane in the secondary in one of my carbs is broken! But I still have an issue with an off-throttle stumble... the accelerator pumps are pushing fuel very well, but every time I touch the throttle from idling, it has a massive stumble and then a second later it comes alive... do you have any guess about that?

Thanks for the videos. My greatest fear with carbs and throttle bodies are the screws and nuts which are tight due to electrolytic corosion. Any idea to loosen them without damaging the screw and carb body?

I’m noticing your top cover gasket is better designed than ours over here in Australia. I have to put the gasket under the float as it has a cut out and is not open like yours. The other thing they have done, which is why I think I have a problem, is that there is a hole cut out about that alloy piston (the one you taped down) where as yours doesn’t have a hole so it’s held shut. I think we are some how supposed to juggle a gasket and somehow hold in place a rubber plug to fill that hole. I will go and check my original gasket as I never saw a plug when I took the top off. I’m thinking this is why my accelerator pump isn’t spraying.

Very nice vid, thanks! Having some issues with my 87 corolla. My dizzy has a dual diaphragm vaccum advance and has 3 ports, two on the top diaphragm adjacent, and one on the bottom diaphragm. I Did an emissions delete cuz the 4alc had a mess of hoses for a bunch of add ons which had a bunch of leaks that I didn't wanna deal with. Problem now is I'm not sure where to run the hoses from the dizzy. Right now I run the top left port on dizzy to the manifold, and have the other 2 plugged. Car runs fine but I felt like I lost some power on the top end? The car Accelerates fine for an old car, but when I reach about 60mph in high gear(automatic) the car just feels sluggish. I find that the car always downshifts to 3rd when ever I try to give it more throttle and open the secondary in 4th gear and it feels unnecessary but the car does it anyways?

Hi I have a little question about this carb. I have 2 of them that I want to rebuild. I noticed with one of them the first venturi bushing was loose and even 90 degrees turned (you can also lift it up) The second venturi was fixed and in the other carb they are both fixed. they cant be turned as the have 2 little holes in the shaft that should meet holes in the carb house. How to fix this venturi bushing in its place? Regards Frank
@PinHead0001
@PinHead0001 5 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what a venture "bushing" is, but if you are referring to the venturi itself, on some years they are pressed into the aluminum bowl casting and then "staked" in place with a punch to prevent them from turning or coming out. Just restake them.
@Coineno
@Coineno 5 жыл бұрын
@@PinHead0001 Hi Thanks for this info: Yes Y mean the venturi itself that is pressed in the bowl. but it is very loose. where should the punch be? I see no punces in the other ones. is there a way to send you a foto? Regards Frank
@PinHead0001
@PinHead0001 5 жыл бұрын
It is staked on top across the line where the bushing outer edge meets the casting hole. The stake punch tip is about 1mm wide by 2 mm long and is crushes or compresses the aluminum by about 0.1mm at the seam so that the bushing cannot turn or come out. There are 4 stakes per venture 90 degrees apart. Google staking or stake punch. I'm not sure if I have a photo.

Do you know of 4/72 fj 40 carb with the same size check valves for accel.Pump? When I took mine apart the two bearings that are supposed to be different sizes are the same. My carb is slightly different from the one in your video.

I'm trying to smog my '78 Travette Toyota motorhome with this carburator. Secondary throttle vacuum diafragm is not supported anymore, i tried napa, oreilly, autozone, etc. Also not available in a kit. After a complete cleaning/rebuild, can't get it to idle anymore. Idle screws are in all the way. Before smog check it ran fine btw...
