You have to be wealthy for the repair costs of any European car with over 100,000 miles. Lease them and get rid of them in 30,000 miles. I love the Camen coupes. American cars are just as bad. The Japanese cars dominate for longevity. .

I've only had mine a week and really not done anything besides very boring routine driving, but even then, you can just tell it has so much more to give. I really want to get some more interesting driving done the weekend, as I've only been sat in normal EV mode so far, so definitely missing out on involvement & fun. Moving on from a Fiesta ST, so I'm being very gentle with everything at the moment, especially in the cold and damp. Regarding the colour, I got mine in white and I think it looks great (looks good in any colour available really). I considered the orange, but it's a very close colour to my outgoing ST so I fancied a change, and it's slightly off from the orange trim and it was driving me a bit nuts tbh! Looking forward to further videos, might actually see another one on the road one day! 👍

Aren’t cars on track so slow and boring… good effort though . I guess you need a euro lotto win to get some serious speed going on … looks fun though … That’s why I stick with bikes! All the best

I owned the I30N in various guises DCT and manual from launch in 2018 until 2023. Fantastic cars. Nothing but praise for the cars and the N division. I’m not there though in any way, shape or form in terms of EV’s though. So this car does nothing for me. Nice video all the same.

It will be fascinating whether you keep using the gear mode over time as you say. I’m equally interested having had the EV6 GT for 2 years to test drive one to see whether the gears and noise have the same effect for me or if I find them unnecessary now. I suspect my brain has calibrated itself not to expect the noise now but we’ll see!

Brilliant video Mark. I've had a KIA EV6 GT for 2 years and as you say, these EV's handle far better than the weight would suggest. I daily drove a Porsche 997 before that and even next to that the KIA is great fun (and a LOT faster). I'm very tempted to try an Ionic 5N or the revised EV6 GT which will apparently have the same tech. Like you, I actually enjoy driving the EV6 GT with the low centre of gravity and immense punch out of corners. I even took it to Brands Hatch when it was too wet for my usual track car and it was brilliant. My track machine of choice is a BAC Mono, so the fact that I'm impressed by the EV6 says it all really. The naysayers on Pistonheads and elsewhere need to get over their prejudices and just try one! Great channel, I've subscribed! Like you, I like petrol cars (have a BAC Mono, Ferrari 355, Honda NSX and McLaren 12c) but that doesn't have to mean you can't like EVs as well for what they do well (and better)! (Oh and after 24,000 miles my average is 2.8m/kWh, brake pad wear is 5% and my battery wear is 1.5%)

I would have loved them to build a golf sized one and called it the 3. I'm not a fan of huge cars. I went with the born instead. I must admit, I'd like the fake gears, but then my "mog" ml/kW would be just as bad as yours. 🙈

Insurance companies have been burned in the past, excuse the pun. "In September, Hyundai and Kia issued a recall of 3.4 million of its vehicles in the United States with an ominous warning: The vehicles should be parked outdoors and away from buildings because they risked catching fire, whether the engines were on or off"

It’s hilarious to see this thing going sideways around roundabouts with the fake noise but almost feels like you’re not breaking the law because it’s silent outside!! Glad you’re enjoying it, looking forward on videos to come. The “manual” box seems like an epic idea, just hearing what the car is doing adds so much more involvement. Having the sound on without the gears just sounds like you’re driving an ICE car in 1st gear all the time haha Can you have the “gearbox” but have it shift automatically if that makes sense like a normal auto? Enjoy and happy new year!!

Yes you can switch back from manual to automatic by holding the paddle 2-3sec. So you have an automatic with 8gears

Can choose if it makes sounds outside, it has speakers under the hood and under the rear bumper. Haven't heard it myself, but my friends tell me it sounds just like a real car, just not obnoxiously loud. Totally in sync with the inside sounds so can only just barely hear it in e.g. a tunnel. I leave it making sounds as it appears to fullfill expectations something is coming at speed, and people don't even look up. I think I get more looks when going silent and a little tyre screetch as people get more surprised/startled and threathened as a result. Since the noise on/of is just a press away with the right N button, I think my experience is quite well verified. What I will do is before entering inhabited areas I know are sensitive to disturbance, like passing a little village at night, is switch to silent but continue to carry appropriate amount of speed. Situations where I would have to slow down excessively in an interesting sounding ICE car to not disturb... Yes a considerate driver, shocking. In Pikes peak, the public knows to go out of the way when the roaring engines approach. Silent EVs were required to run an annoying siren, the 5N on its runs had a roaring engine instead. Much more as expected and similar to my experience in daily traffic life...

Thanks for sharing. I should be the last person to love this car. I've only wanted to own the smallest gasoline driver's cars that serve my daily needs, and thought it very important a driver's car is light. In also hated the fake engine noises my cars were delivered with the last 12 years already, switched that all off and tinkered a whole lot with aftermarket exhausts to get the sounds I wanted. Reviews that claimed I was wrong and a test drive to see what it's all about changed all that. Ive owned my 5N half a year now and still love it. Not tired of the fake gears + ignition yet, still hate the fake sound without the gears. Don't use the ICE mode on boring drives with too much traffic, but as soon as the road opens up... Perfect combination. The chassis is great, much work has been put in I can really feel that, without that I would not like this car.... It replaced my fun gasoline cars, not only that it also took the role of the main family car. Didn't think any car could be good at being both a great driver's car and a great family car, this one pulls it of. Hats off Hyundai N! Will be interesting to see how you get on, and hopefully we'll learn from each other.

Oh great!! A new car, Mark. And one that’s on my radar. I’ve got a Tesla model 3 performance as a daily now. Sold my RS when you did. Just sold my Cayman a couple if months ago and thinking of the N for when the Tesla goes back. I don’t know about you but I still miss the Focus RS rawness and theatre, if not the issues! The N could have all the benefits of EV with a touch of RS’ ness about it. Will look forward to future videos.

Watched your Videos since the Focus/M140i times when i also decided between both cars. Got a M140i, a Fiesta ST after that and now cross shopping the Ioniq 5N with a M2 G87 as my next car. Nice to see you in the Hyundai now, love your opinion on it. I knew the range would be bad, but your estimated range is shocking me. 😅 Do not have home charging at the moment, at least 150miles from 20-80% would be nice. I also checked the insurance, which unfortunately is extremely expensive even compared to the M2. Also there are some reliability concerns. Really like this car and will give it a test drive in spring. But I am leaning towards the M2.

Really interesting to see if you think the 5n is actually "more fun" than the i3s? I have test drove the 5n, and yes, it's balistic, grippy, and handles brilliantly, but, but, honestly, for the driving i do, it's TOO Fast, and TOO grippy, and handles TOO well! What makes the i3s so fun is it has low limits, its incredibly narrow and nibble, and at just around 1300kg, when you overcook it, you have room to gather it all up before you hit something. The 5n, sure on track the i3 wouldn't see which way it went, but on the road, nah, you simply can't drive it hard enough (leagally and sensibly speaking) to actually make it fun. The other thing was the ability to accurately read the amount of grip you have from the handwheel, ie the feedback from the front tyres. The i3s, with it's narrow tyres and modest grip is a car that you can use 100% of the grip all the time, in fact, ime, it's even better when it's wet and slippy because it doesn't actually loose much grip as it never had that much when conditions were perfect, the 5n on the otherhand, well i drove it in 3 to 5 degC and honestly, it could be a bit of a handful, and miss a braking point (mostly because it's really really blinking fast!) and several times it felt like "is this thing going to stop" whereas i never get that in the i3s? I'd love to make some mods to my i3s, an LSD (initaly googling suggest the mini LSD might actually fit as apparently the trans might use this diff??), spacers on the back, or another way of getting about 10% more rear roll stiffenss, and some better quality dampers, and i suspect it would actually become a bit of a sleeper. Anyway, enjoy the 5n, let us know how it goes and how it compares to your previous i3 🙂
