For reference guys, Mark mentioned it was an oil strainer valve in his last post ( Anglesey). I asked after hed resolved it because I'd had a misfire on my 2.9 which was a plug coil. He kindly replied with a photo. Happy Cayman driving guys.

Thanks Eric 👍 For further reference the part number that failed was 99710570100. How or why I have no idea, but a new one has cured the problem seemingly for good.

Still sending it in November though you were doing a suspension refresh 😂 mines in bits doing the suspension on my 987 Boxster this winter ready for some fun in the spring!
@MarkCup70Ай бұрын
The suspension refresh turns out to it needing tuning forks only...and that WILL happen in the spring. I'm not ambitious enough to undertake a full refresh myself!

Sounds healthy Mark and good to see another upload - you inspired me to get my own 987.1 2.7 - I bought mine earlier this year on 178,000 miles and I've now got it up to just shy of 185,000? They wear their miles well and mine still holds well up to a good thrashing 👍
@MarkCup70Ай бұрын
Good choice and glad to hear it's running well even with all those miles. Shows what solid cars they are 😃👍

Going well sir,,, what was the issue?

A £65 part that cost £3,000 to find and fix 😂 Look up part no 99710570100...

Nice to see you back on the track. Gee, that RX8 was going well, too... A couple of questions. What pads and brake fluid are you running please? Also, what was your misfire problem? Hope to be doing a track day in my 2.9 987.2 soon. All the best Roland Sydney Australia
@MarkCup70Ай бұрын
Hey Roland 👍 The car was running a complete new set of brakes with Sebro discs and EBC RP-1 pads all round. Fluid is ATE Typ200. Misfire was an oil strainer valve that fed the inlet Variocam mechanism.

@MarkCup70 Thanks for the brake info, Mark. Wow! That would've been an interesting fault to diagnose.

£65 part at fault, and it cost me £3k to find and fix 🤣

What was the cause of the miss fire mark, would be good to know, I’ve just bought a 981 GT4

Look up part no. 99710570100, it's an oil strainer, feeds the inlet Variocam mechanism. No idea why or how it failed, but a new one has fixed it!
