The biblical Noah story has really made me question itself in the scheme of things. Firstly, Noah sacrifices animals to G, so which animals went extinct because he killed off one of the two progenitor s? Why would G need a sacrifice anyway after just having his creations saved? Also, one of the next things Noah does is create a servant class by cursing Ham's offspring, because G drowned all the former servants along with their evil masters. How inconvenient!

Dr. Finkle is very cool as far as Assyriologists go. Wish he'd dig deeper into Enmerkar and the spell he casts to demand Enki to make Sumeria the only common language in all the known worlds. That proves that it was the Tower of Inana that would be the real tower of Babel. For he cast his spell to force Arrata to give him precious metals and jewels to adorn the Temple of Inana/Ziggurat of Eanna. Only Temple mentioned in the Epic of Gilgamesh 2x!

But here's the real secret... it proves that yes there was a tower of babel, but the monkeys pop out of the barrel that everyone finally figures out G-D = EA = ENKI = Our Father = Holy Spirit sort of Eegads put that cork back in! Yet Nimrod in ancient Hebrew spells = ENMERKAR / Rebel.

As far as I'm concerned, the unquestionable reality of the shroud represents a connection to our prophet, our Savior and his Father, it does not promote, justify, resolve, relieve, absolve, diminish or make resolute any twisted connections to the Church, Vatican City, Rome and its deplorable, unforgivable, inhuman, torturous, murderous, ignorant, criminal, manipulative and devious actions throughout history as it claims to have done everything in our Lord's name, and continues to perpetuate there lies and manipulations of the words, teachings and lessons of Jesus without reprimand. Funny I don't ever remember hearing about Jesus killing anyone who didn't follow him, asking anyone for compensation to absolve their sins or laundering blood money for other criminal organizations or supporting dictator's trying to ethnically cleanse the world. Interesting how others claim to do things in there deities name and miss-interpreted teachings, yet we call them terrorists and try to bring them to justice. I'm not seeing the difference. You know why the US Gov't separates church from state? Because two negatives make a positive and that's just not in there business model.
@Silverado1st
@Silverado1st Ай бұрын
I'm still convinced by the fact there are three different body positions on the shroud shown in the negative image, saying the body moved during the irradiating process, three separate bursts, the fact that the shape on the shroud shows his body was floating at that moment and the fact that if the imprint was made while the linen was wrapped around the contours of his body, the image would be stretched/distorted when the material was pulled taught. The image was created while his body was inches above the shroud and the shroud was pulled flat. One of the scientists said it would take 400 billion giga-watts of our electrical power to recreate an image like that using coherent light radiation, the total used by the entire US continent in one year. Our human soul is a form of energy, I can only imagine how powerful Jesus's is. I'm wondering, if we can talk back and forth to both Voyagers using only 60 watts of power and there approaching the edge of our galaxy, if you go out into space far enough, you can still pick up our old FM/VHF/UHF television signals, we can detect and record light coming from a dead star after traveling trillions of light years, we can hear a whale fart underwater 2,000 miles away, in the 50's our satellites could read the headline off a newspaper in Russia, why couldn't we detect 3 coherent radiated energy bursts traveling through space for 2,000 years using the J. Webb telescope? What other affects would the radiated energy have left behind? How would it have affected the ceiling of the cave? The stone slab? The dirt, grass, sand, trees or bacteria over the tomb? What would that amount of energy have done to the Ozone? Would the Van Allen Belt have absorbed the energy, what type of affect would it have created with the northern lights aura? Did I hear correctly that the world went dark for three days afterwards or certain areas? There was an earthquake, the earth shook, cracked under the cross? Like the supposed radiation weapons were testing now that affect the weather and may have cause earthquakes in Japan with not even a pinch of the energy used during the resurrection. That UFO that was hovering over the temple mount and shot a beam of bright light before it took off, maybe that was someone making a visit underneath in areas we haven't explored, they were returning someone or they were picking someone up using the same technology as may have been used to return Jesus's body. Hmmmmm.

The story of the grandfather doesn't have to be a lie to have another explanation. For example, everyone has a doppleganger. Also there's a common thing among the aggrieved whereby they see the facd of their lost loved one in lots of people. It happened to me all the time for years after my father died. I'd think I saw him, but on another look it turned out to be a perfect stranger. Occasionally several things will happen together and you get a very strong feeling. But it can be purely incorrect interpretation. Now suppose you saw someone briefly, and couldn't get another better look. And now suppose you have always been around people who take the supernatural for granted. You only have a brief moment to go on and naturally some very strong feelings. Well of course you'll have a strong sense you enountered a ghost. It's simply not good evidence. We have very strong evidence that people in general and certain individuals in particular are very suggestible. The whole advertising industry is built on manipulating people, reaching past their conscious thoughts. People require differing levels of evidence. I demand a higher level than many, maybe most

It is just a matter of perception, 2 Kings 6:17. We are surrounded by many hyper-dimensional beings that some people, who devote their lives to certain practices, or others who have had an encounter with physical death and remain here with us for a time, seem to be able to cross this dimensional barrier and see, interact, or communicate with these extra-terrestrial beings. I personally believe Jesus Christ is the doorway or portal into these realms and the Holy Spirit is our protector and guide in these areas we are unfamiliar with or unaware of. We are eternal, it is just a matter of adjusting our beliefs and throwing off the shackles that death and religion brings to our mind. Yes the body ages and decays, but their is another life that is concurrently growing alongside this 3 dimensional life. Jesus Christ embodies this life and left us a blueprint into this reality. A kingdom that will never fade away, and we are learning how to live in it, and let it overtake us and consume this life if we desire it to. But not everybody does, whether because of pride, ignorance, or circumstances beyond their control, their mind is captured and the imagination is snuffed or corrupted and their souls remain trapped in the lower dimensions of the heavens, where the the less desirable spirits inhabit. Possibly the ones that were cast out of the presence of God due to their rebellion at some time past, and a warning to those who have not understood of this foreboding fate that awaits all who choose oblivion. Very exciting journey for those who can articulate it properly.

Regarding the lady who saw her grandfather walk across the lawn - there is a third explanation - an old man did indeed walk across the lawn and he bore an uncanny resemblance perhaps in clothing, gait and facial appearance to her grandfather. Sufficient for both her and her mother to be certain that they had seen him. Although this seems extremely unlikely, when you take into account all the times that all the people you have ever met have looked out of the window and not seen their dead grandfather and not reported his absence, this explanation begins to sound more likely to me than the existence of ghosts.

re ghosts and skulls - I think it is completely understandable that ghosts should be summoned into skulls - you can see this in both Celtic (Bran's head) and Germanic (Mimir's head) mythology, where heads/skulls seem to have been consulted for their wisdom. Going back further to the Neolithic we find skulls 'restored" with plaster around the middle east as perhaps part some similar sort of ancestor ritual. I think it is clear that in ancient times, when you grandfather or father or someone who you held in huge personal esteem died, you would endeavour to keep their memory alive by preserving their head or skull on the equivalent of your mantelpiece or family shrine. You would feel lost without them so having them close by would be an understandable comfort. The whole body would be too big and smelly and they wouldn't be needing it anyway and the head was clearly the seat of consciousness and being. In times of stress, you would sit in your armchair by the fire with your pipe and converse with your grandfather, seeking his wisdom in helping you navigate through your latest problem. Even today, some people will go to a loved ones grave to talk to them in this way. Much more convenient if you don't have to leave your own living room. Given this background, it makes perfect sense that if you wanted to call up someone else's grandfather, the best way to do it would be via their skull.... I don't know much about Shinto, but I have seen Japanese family shrines and I believe that Romans had similar and although lacking a collection of skulls I assume that their usage would be much the same. In fact, the whole thing does feel comforting, maybe i should create my own family shrine with mementoes of ancestors and long gone pets... Thinking about it, I do occasionally talk to a picture of my long-departed dog - this is pretty much the same thing.

So the creation, flood, and birth of Moses stories in the Bible resemble stories found in other ancient texts but we will conveniently dismiss that because the bible version is not exactly word-for-word the same?
@trueedge2097
@trueedge2097 2 ай бұрын
@@bg6160 Well yes. Its that simple. To argue for solid borrowing, you need more than simply the concept. Otherwise, we'd have to argue that MGM's Tom Mouse (of Tom and Jerry fame) is a copy of Mickey Mouse, since they are both cartoon mice. That argument would fall very short since there is no question that the two characters are not the same. For literary borrowing to be a convincing argument, you'd need to show some things that were borrowed. But we don't have much to show, other than the simple concepts. The characters, the motivations, and the results are vastly different in both accounts. The most likely and logical explanation is that they are BOTH drawing from earlier sources. The question is what.

What I find the most compelling about this is that the Pentateuch, even in its earliest copies, contains NO Akkadian or Assyrian loanwords. There are a number of Egyptian ones, though, specifically the ones for basket and reed. If the Jews were copying from Sargon story, we would expect a few Akkadian words to pop up here and there. We don't see that at all. This doesnt argue for a borrowed story from Akkad or Assyria. Instead, it actually fits with what the narrative says about itself - a Semitic people living in Egypt. Egyptian loanwords are exactly what we would expect in that case, and the words are exactly what we would expect them to be. But Egypt has no drawn son story. So there wasn't anything in Egypt to borrow from.

Re: Discerning whether a person's experience of seeing a ghost is "real". Many people are deluded. In my psychiatric career, I have seen so many. Depending on culture, people may insist they see beings whom are not verifiably there. In today's society, they may be former relatives (or even current), may be members of special groups like CIA, KGB, BBC, etc, or religious entities. What is true is that Hindus see Hindu gods and Ghosts, Christians see the Holy Mary, and aboriginal gods are known only to the aboriginal communities. In psychiatry, we have a term - confabulation, which means to assemble a seemingly coherent narrative from matters that are fundamentally incoherent or unknown to the thinker. I remember a person with dementia, who did not know where she was, in a ward living room,. She was standing and I asked why. She explained she was standing at a bus stop waiting for "the 32". Depending on the severity of their illness, (and we should remember that the construct we describe as mental illness is a modern one), many patients are absolutely convinced that their delusary visitations (religious and otherwise) are real. If the illness remains untreated, what I have seen (in the early asylums) is that the framework of plausible explanations for the clearly delusory visions (e.g. TonyBlair is monitoring me through the TV, the KGB have the house surrounded) becomes ingrained into consciousness and guides actions. I had one patient whom only used writing on cardboard to communicate because, he adamantly insisted, the KGB had bugged his home. If you disagreed with this proposition the relationship was ended on the spot. These sorts of things are common in psychosis and often lead to admission. They are presently treatable with atypical antipsychotics and gteh patient can recover insight and sometimes remember their former categorical assertions and dismiss them as irrational. I feel that psychosis was far more prevalent in ancient societies because psychosis is brought on by stress and life was more much stressful, at least than what we currently experience in the West. Many other symptoms of psychosis, include what is otherwise seen in religious experiences. This is a whole essay. The point to remember is that the mind is ALWAYS confabulating. You might be sure that you can remember coming to the office yesterday, but you do not remember the whole process, nor are you able to make a comprehensive account (how many steps did you take, what shape were the clouds you saw), but you do recall key events that make it probably impossible that you did not (for example you remembering stepping onto the train). A person you are with steps out of the room, whilst they are not there your mind segueways into a construct of that person (as you perceive them) and you might internally carry on the dialogue. Later that construct will form part of your memory of the encounter. In short our mind is a stage for which we construct dramatis personae, even when we are at our most skeptical and rational. Apart from matters that can be confabulated, those who claim to see ghosts, cannot give any form of accurate context, especially irrelevant matters. The way I understand this is by comparison with an interview for a murder suspect by detectives. If a detective is familiar with the context of the murder, he can soon reveal that a person that a person cannot give details like there were two glasses of wine on the table. A person who is actually there might mention such arbitrary facts as they proceed to narrate other tales about events connected to the murder. Such tests applied to accounts of ghosts invariably fail. A similar thing occurs with concepts like heaven. Who does the plumbing, and who clears the sewers? Is there Wifi? Do the ancients get wifi? Do they continue to poo next to the river or can they use a modern toilet? Such questions are never answered, though some insist they have seen heaven and may even kill you for disagreeing.
