Yes, I passed a week ago, there was a caravan without a car attached. Had table, chairs and an open fire pit in the car park. So can't say I blame the council this time. Who and why make a fire in a council car park.

Vanlife community need to organise. There are thousands of you. Pick a date, remove/swap your plates and drive into London and bring the city to gridlock for as long as it takes. Of course they will call you all right wing but if you are sitting peacefully in your vans in gridlock they can't arrest you all.

I am looking at doing the van life simply because my landlord is selling up and i cannot afford to buy or rent privately in the area i live in. I work full time so i cannot travel everyday as i work at a fixed location. My van would generally be in the same spot everyday so i am close to work. There is also a Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Home Bargains, Next, Sports Direct, Costa, Gregs and a 24 hr gym 2 minutes from where i work so it is ideal. It is an industrial road well tucked up out the way and none of the companies have night shifts so its a nice quiet road at night. I would do the beauty spots at weekends and when i am on holiday.
@Roadshome
@Roadshome 2 күн бұрын
That should out fine for you, my only thought would be will your van be safe while your at work. In those sort of areas being parked up for days isn't normally an issue. It's the beauty spots that causes problems

Hi Mark. We now live in Valencia, Spain, and the local council approach is so much different. Local communities are investing in purpose built motorhome/campervan areas to attract custom for local businesses. A lot of them are completely free, including black/grey water disposal and sometimes toilets, and where they do charge this is usually a minimal 3/4 Euros. It´s pretty easy out here to find free and safe places to spend the night, even outside big cities, with the only restriction being that you can´t camp (chairs and tables out). It´s a crying shame what is happening in the UK.
@Roadshome

I spent 6 weeks touring Spain and France. I wish a lot more people from the UK would do the same so they could understand the true meaning of Aires. In the UK their is a group trying to bring Aires to the UK but want councils to charge £15 + a night. Many can't afford that and would only support wealthy weekend touring who could stay on sites.

It's on its way there almost quicker than around England. It was the Scotland hospitality tax that got me started on all this. Because of the hospitality tax meaning camp sites can charge extra councils in Scotland want everyone in a camper van on sites now. It's become a free for all, charge as much as you like.

Spot on Mark. It is political (not just van life) as anyone not living an 'approved'/conventional life are targeted. Flat 247 on the 15th floor of Unicorn House is where they want us all living as 'good' citizens. We alrady have pay per mile in the form of fuel duty but they want to have another dip into that one. I'm a country boy & nature lover but the green agenda is nothing more than a money making scam .... am sure not all will agree tho. Great video, thanks.

The proposer of the ban for Scarborough-North Yorks Council, said that paying for parking wouldn't solve the issues being raised as complaints by locals. I'm sure there's plenty of folk who would willingly pay £20-40 for a couple of night on the sea front, but I certainly can't afford to and bloody wouldn't want to even if I could..

It's wealthy people with campervans who are out for the weekend thinking only of themselves. Plenty say they are willing to pay, so why don't they just go to a site and pay for the night.

I've made the same point myself Mark. For someone out on a weekend trip or even a few days away, paying a tenner a night is still cheaper than paying for other accommodation. However, full timers either can't afford that or just don't want that cost. Might as well be in a bloody house paying rent if you have to pay upwards of a tenner a night to park. 🙄
@Roadshome
@Roadshome 2 күн бұрын
I didn't have a bad opinion of weekenders, but I'm starting to. It really pisses me off people saying it's OK to charge £10 a night. Like you say sod off to a camp site then. I want Aires in the UK but I want them like Europe. Free. If they have great facilities then a small fee is OK. When I say facilities I mean bar, showers, dog walking area, in a nice area with views. A toilet dump is a given free otherwise you can't moan about people putting it in a bush.

We pay tax and insurance more cars on roads than vans, if signs do not mention penalty charge then park. Stinks of discrimination. Simple first come first served, as for folks wanting to pay I think the Gov extort far too much cash off us already.

There's is so much parking abuses in the U.S. that parking bans are occurring all over. And no matter how much you plead and warn those who abuse the privileges there's an air of Entitlement that has crept in. I'm full time three years in the states. I have dwelled in cities, forests, mountains...all over and what I see is disturbing. Here, we are losing privileges because of the abuse of a few. My van doesn't look like a campervan at all. Yesterday a gentleman stopped me to ask if I had his package 😉 for delivery....now that's stealth!!

The vanlife videos that are now so popular all over social media, has increased the number of people overnighting in vehicles enormously. The Drove near Stonehenge is likely to be closed to vehicles by the end of this year, and the public health implications of the improper disposal of significant amounts of faeces and urine, is something that will make the implementation of the TRO very simple. The anti-social behaviour of van lifers is very visible, when live in vehicles very often take up all the spaces in small local car parks, and like the improper disposal of waste, is something that will make the implementation of bans on live in vehicles firstly in relation to overnight stays, and ultimately exclusion at all times, very easy to achieve. Realistically it seems like much of the above will become a reality this year, and I would guess before long live in vehicles will be restricted to stays on licensed sites? Anyone who has a large amount of money invested in a live-in, should maybe think about selling it, before it becomes impossible to do so? When so many eagerly clamoured for untested "vaccines" it was obvious that the powers that be can do exactly as they please, and I would guess next month ALL motorists will be getting some terribly bad news on the cost of fuel and road tax? This will obviously also impact those who live in vehicles full time, or just weekenders. Maybe we should have resisted the injections?

To bloody true mark I couldn’t afford to pay ten or fifteen pounds a night not even for a week. Paying £335 a year road tax £454 a year insurance and £54 for an mot that’s enough as far as I’m concerned plus all the money we pay in fuel duty the government get from us so stuff their pay per night. No chance from me.😂 Alan

There’s too many so called vanlifers (fakes). Saturating the country with there vans. They have not got any regard for those who live in their vans all year round. If you get rid of the fake vanlifers. You get rid of the problem. That also applies to those parking on the drove for months on end. The locals clearly will be concerned. Yes the councils will cash in on this. Stop defending the councils. Get that through your head 😊

About ten years ago I did a stealth camp. I pitched a small tent on a disused railway track in Somerset. The trackbed was surrounded by trees and no one could see me. Although, much of this old line has been turned into cycle paths and bridleways. It was easy to do. I left my car in Bruton, and walked a few miles to where I wanted to camp.
