People expressed concerns about their Wifi signal being weak and not being reachable at a distance. There is something to understand: the sync module was is the one connecting to the Wifi, so you place it close to your router, then this sync module communicates with the camera through a radio frequency. This is why the camera can be located 100 ft ftom the sync module.

Unfortunately our video sessions were non existent this year. Our Admin team has been exceptionally busy. We are working on publishing a step by step, segmented video for the installation of an electric predator guard and hope to have it out, sometime before Fall.

@@purplemartinfanatics6600we had fire ants climb our pole for the first time this year. If grease might help prevent that, why would that be a bad thing? It’s not going to be anywhere near the birds.

You would have to make it yourself. You can take a 1/2" bolt and use a hacksaw to cut the waffle grid pattern.

who here considers humans invasive?
@notstarved46347 ай бұрын
everyone should, but that doesnt mean we also dont eradicate invasive animals. we introduced sparrows to be invasive, and we can undo it as well. Cats are also invasive, hence why its a responsible thing to keep them inside, and to not feed feral cats.

The English House Sparrow and European Starling are both non-native species in the United States. Exactly like the python in the Everglades. If left to proliferate, they would eliminate all our native cavity-nesting birds. They almost decimated our bluebird population in the late 20th century. Read more here: www.reconnectwithnature.org/news-events/the-buzz/bluebirds-saved-from-extinction/ and here: nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/managing-house-sparrows-and-european-starlings/

I put my trail cam out by my pond and got video of raccoons swimming across it to climb on a raft. We don't have black rat snacks this far west Because of my concern about ground nest predators (ducks, geese, turkeys, pheasants etc) I have given up and just feed the raccoons cheap cat kibble during the nesting season. During hunting season the neighbors shoot or trap them

Do you have a ground wire hooked to the pole?
@purplemartinfanatics66008 ай бұрын
No. I use the ground (soil) to conduct the path back to the charger. We have ample rain, and high mineral content to the soil so I don't need a connected ground. It would help in many cases and is very simple to install, so definitely add that if you think you might need to.

Troyer makes a product called a "No Rocker" (I think that's the name) It keeps the gourds from rocking very much.

Very interesting adoption study. I am very surprised to learn this. I also would be interested in your findings if you find this method of adoption successful again. I have an occasional jumper or 2 for what ever the reason. I always put them back with a brood of roughly the size if able. I have even placed a younger or older jumper in any nest cavity and they are usually adopted and cared for until they fledge, even if behind or ahead of their nest mates. I see you placed this single gourd at the same height as the others and in close proximity and furnished egg shells or oyster shells to hold the adults interest. I am wondering if this may have a lot to do with the success of this method you had. Thank you for this post. Please keep us updated if you can.

Excellent Video! Thanks for summarizing predator protection options. I just lost 13 (nestlings + eggs) and the snake was still in the cavity when I did a nest check. Martins were very active prior to my regular nest check. I had a bird net around the pole, but no predator guard. The bird net was wrapped too tightly around the pole. I have had martins for 23 years and this is the first snake attack. I was researching predator guards when I came across your video.
@purplemartinfanatics6600 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it's hard to get people to realize that they need a guard. There are stories like yours posted every season. The disheartening part is people who have been fortunate to not have predator attacks, often advocate that predator guards aren't needed. As you found out, they aren't needed, until they are.
