Just give me estrogen and no one will get hurt! But seriously, I’m being denied the proper medical care I know my body needs. I haven’t been well since my 0.5 estradiol patch was cut in half. Doctors are afraid of stroke risk. It’s probably not even a real risk! How about quality of life if so? My choice my risk. Some women don’t need hormone therapy and bless them. How lucky they are. They didn’t have pms either. There is a connection there but that is another topic. Is there really a stroke risk? Maybe they just want to give women all the pharmaceuticals companies goodies. Anti-anxiety, anti-depression, osteoporosis, etc., etc.

Rich women get better treatments. Working class and poor women get the treatments that don't work and those generic estrodial patches are poison.

This is another charlatan claiming so-called energy transitions. I had to turn this off after hearing him say that solar-powered EVs are "ludicrously efficient..." I hope no one takes this con artist seriously. It is obvious he knows very little about energy and even less about thermodynamics.

I’ve sat down and worked out the maths for myself, and gotten qouts on heat pumps and solar panels and battery, i was going to have solar even though my roof has over 40yrs of life left and the survey confirms that and said it will far exceed the life span of the solar system, there refusesing to install eness i have a new roof. Ive had several surveys of solar and sparkys saying the same. Ive had two roofers saying the have zero clue why my roof is good and will outlast any solar system and there saying it will be well over 10£k for a new roof. Thing I’ve worked out a heat pump will minimum / best case increase my electric bill around the same i would have payed on gas.. maybe a £10 saving at best witch would make the return on investment very hard to see over its live span, compared to a new top notch gas boiler the return on investment is way better and impotently much more affordable and easy to find competent engineers to install and service and cheaper to service, i was watching a vlogger this week who showed the expens of a yearly service of his 5kw heat pump £230 with a independent trained engineer that was the recommended basic service, over a gas engineer £70 for myself, so that’s over twice as expensive as well and should be factored into costs. And makes you even more dependent on electricity. Then the cost of modernising my plumbing so the heat pumps can work, it all adds up£££££££££. Don’t get me Wong heat pumps do work but only if you can afford the price of entry and requirements, also only come cost effective if you have a decent solar system with battery’s witch if you dont have that is only raised the price of entry up massively, and when you factor life span of system into account like batteries 10-15yrs solar 20yrs heat pumps 10-15 yrs then the extra cost like in my case but no doubt im not alone needing a new roof even though its still fit for purpose according to roofers 😂, then plumbing wiring and and so on. Makes running a modern gas boiler still more costs efficient and attractive. Even with the rebate my general quotes without upgrading the heating have come in around with the grant 6k£+, but factoring everything in and speaking to load of specialists best case ill need to spend around £50k minimum but likely be more up to £100k to tick all these boxes especially if its possible to get my house to A rated witch according to several l surveys is just not cost effective there are some bits that are achievable but overs they’ve said dosent make sense bar if you got deep pockets or money to burn.

If the water wheel was less economically viable then it wasn't the best technology
@hollisticc

In England, one of the big reasons that coal power took off was because the water works, while extremely efficient, was also not privately owned by the manufacturers. It was cheaper, but it was also collectivized, so they would all be paying into the same resource which would inadvertently benefit their competitors. Many manufacturers at the time decided to switch to coal, because it gave them complete ownership over their source of energy and it allowed them to not benefit their competitors by paying into using the public waterworks system. The increase in the demand for coal based steam-power likely resulted in those who were inventing machines to transform coal to steam-power having more resources with which to develop the technology in order to make it more efficient. Private manufacturers had more of an economic incentive to switch to coal because it would benefit them solely and would result in less resources for their competitors who may have been benefiting from the collectivized waterworks. Essentially, it would give those who switched to coal an opportunity to get a leg up in the market and create a monopoly, even though it was actually more expensive and less efficient originally.

Natural gas is the most economical source of energy. Nuclear energy is strategically essential for Mars colonisation. Renewables need to improve from a 10 year to a 3 year payback period to survive in a free economy (without subsidies that they currently enjoy).

It's a shame that Kamini Aisola didn't just talk generally and frankly it would have been generously about innvations in data centres. Graviton could have been "We have focused on energy efficiency in the design of each generation of our cloud focused Graviton processors". That'd be it, not waffling on with a verbal press release. There's so much good stuff here that PR took away from it

You're basically taking heat energy from the air outside of your house. (Technically speaking. all air above -273degC has energy in it) Using the Carnot principle to first compress it, to make it nice and hot for distribution around your house, before expanding it to release back to the outside at colder temperatures than we started with. Using benefits of latent heat we can get these systems to be spectacularly efficient while changing state from liquids to vapours etc. That's why we use refrigerants that transition at low temperatures. All pretty complicated stuff when you get into the detail but the result is that you can put a kw of energy into compressing a refrigerant, that's been heated up by the outside air, to get a 4kw effective heat input to your house.

Agile needs to be cheaper. It’s a great tariff for people like me that watch the prices and hence the green-ness of the grid but at the point when the average price is higher than the standard variable tariff I just can’t justify it anymore.

The solution to high petrol prices CAN be cheaper petrol, it’s not JUST smart electricity. This guy isn’t a good speaker given he’s apparently bias in his knowledge. For example advancements in cleaner synthetic fuels is making huge strides in coming to market - and if successful - not having to dig your fuel out of the ground and refine it will mean not only is it much cheaper for the consumer to purchase, but will be just as green as electricity. I don’t mind people talking about their invention, but I do mind them brainwashing their audience.

I don’t understand how it can be cheaper to run than a gas boiler given that the cost of gas is currently at 5.48p per kWh (kilowatt hour) here in the UK, (as of Nov ‘24), while electricity costs more than four times as much, at 22.36p per kWh. I think we need to remember not to conflate energy EFFICIENCY with energy COST, e.g. an electric boiler is more energy EFFICIENT but, because the price of electricity is more expensive than gas, it will likely COST you more in the monthly bills to run.
@MP-ep9ur
@MP-ep9ur 2 ай бұрын
Because a heat pump gives you a 6x for each kWh consumed advantage. The electricity consumed, only runs a compressor motor.... it doesn't directly heat the water like your gas reference

What is really clear from watching this chat is that Uber, BYD and Octopus are "all in" on the energy transition, and it's not surprising that partnerships are forming between them because that's what happens when the vision is bigger than the fear of competition or of a market change. It's a stark contrast to Tesla in my view where, yes they are building cars at a low cost, but there is risky ivory tower thinking going on when they do things like reject V2G (or L or H) for vehicles like the Model Y or the new Model 3. The customers have been asking and asking, and Tesla have the capacity to add it to the cars and integrate the cars into the grid.

I was an early adopter of a ground source HeatPump with underfloor heating in a new house I built around 16 years ago. Absolutely useless if you love luke warm water to shower in then go for it. If you are happy to live in 18c at most then go for it. Even 16 years ago it cost me £20k and broke down after 2 years. Don’t have gas so use oil boilers which a far cheaper to run and install. They might convert 1kw into 3 but electricity is the most expensive form of heating.

Sounds like terrible early tech ? We’ve just had an air source HP fitted in our hackney terrace house . Absolutely no drama , house is warmer as heat is on longer but lower through day , instal took 3 days , water is same as it was with combi - on an Ovo heat pump tariff so same costs as before - genuinely no downside all upside

When it was said that, there is no one who can sort out why one room in your house is cold what the other is too hot. There is an option to fix that issue right now if you run traditional radiators, and it's called 'Radiator Balancing' and any pumber worth his job can sort that for you, without any fancy upgrades. That will make your heating more efficent too through even distribution of heat. Also, never skimp on opitions for insulation.
