Hi. Are you Brazilian? It’s the first time one of your videos is recommended for me.

I would have tried to force all the roots into the new pot. It was good to learn that it is sufficient to make sure some roots are in the pot and some can remain in the air. It being the best practice not to force it. Also what is the advantage of removing the keiki by hand rather than cutting it with a tool from the mother plant?

Thank you for this video encouraging to never give up on a plant. I will strive for patience and hope when a plant in my care is struggling. You have demonstrated that plants want to live and do their best. We must pay attention to their unique needs. Poor things.

Hi Ina. Best wishes for the new year and I hope you enjoyed your short break. That cattleya is definitely a tough one to survive all the punishment it has received over recent times. Now it finally rewards you with a beautiful bloom in such a lovely colour. I can imagine how stunning it will look when it has several blooms. Good luck with your cute!

My first Phal. schilleriana started blooming yesterday with one bloom! 🌸 It's now opening three more and then it has three more to go! It grew much better than the bellina and violacea which were also purchased at the same time. They are both growing new leaves right now but I'll have them in warmer conditions next year.

I think we've all had vanda's like this at one point or another. And the roots look exactly like they have a microscopic root eating bug on them. It's what many do not realize when they have this symptom and think the brown residue on roots is caused by overfertilizing. It really is not. The way I eliminate the root eating bugs which are too tiny to see most of the time is to peel away all the dead leaves creating hiding places, cut the old dead roots off and spray the plant down wll with 70% isopropyla alcohol. LEt the plant dry for a few hours, then place it in a plastic bag and leave it for 10 days. Take it out of the bag and repeat the alcohol treatment once more. Then pot it up again in completely fresh new media. Sometimes they can't recover if they are too far gone already but it gives the orchid a better chance to recover otherwise it just ends up exactly the same as the motherplant. The brown residue on roots is a real challenge. Fertilizing less as is often recommended online doesn;t fix a single thing so you know how many people must have lost orchids in exactly the same way over the years. Even if you know, once an orchid gets this bad it gets harder and harder to save it. You can see the bugs do not like dry conditions so hang out in the damp pots and don;t affect aerial roots as much but even your top leaf has been chewed on. Maybe you have treated it before, maybe the plant is already clear but the amount of times I have treated a plant for bugs to come back is unreal. The alcohol and dry bareroot method is the best way to interupt all bug activity to be sure.

Happy New Year! I very much enjoyed learning about your wins. I have only had my Cattleya and Rossioglossum about six months. Trying to learn as much as I can. Your honest videos about the ups and downs you have experienced are quite helpful. Maybe I will get blooms in 2025!

@13:06, wow!😮 😊👍🤗. I have a few, mostly very young, Cattleyas. I’m still learning what they need, but they seem to like their current location. It’s my home that places the challenge, with air conditioning and a fairly dry environment. I am learning how to adjust to bring favorable results, though. Some grew at least one growth and increased in overall size last year, with two of them pushing out three growths!😊. We’ll see what the new year brings. Looks like I have some repotting to do in the Spring. I am hopeful.🎉🙏🏻

I started with 2 and years later my house became a green space☺️ Go for small orchids that you can grow under intermediate light like Phalaenopsis and Paphiopedilum. You can place them under a desk or windowsill❤️ I am glad your plants are blooming and I hope they are healthy.

Thanks for the info! I'm curious on which months your big vanda put on spike? I got my first big vanda earlier this april. It holds onto her flowers for 2 months. And now keeps growing vegetatively.
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
Hi, I believe it depends on the hybrids. This purple one blooms each 2 months for me. They do need high light and fertilise to bloom nicely ♥️
@FerratheFerret14 күн бұрын
@oneorchidaday yes I try to give as much as light as possible, natural south facing window & grow led light (just recently purchased it). Well, in summer i have no problem with the light, but in autumn and now winter , it is a problem 😅 it is a crisis of sunlight living in france... Unlike when I was in southeast asia... Fertilizer wise I think i gave plenty and enough for it. Because I see continuous growth of roots and leaves

Hi Ina. I was just having a close look at your mini mark and the yellow markings look exactly the same as some of my phals had recently. I mixed up a paste of sulphur powder in a very small amount of water and painted it on liberally. I'm happy to say it seems to have stopped the spread of this fungus or whatever it is and the plant is growing a new healthy leaf. I had 2 more phals with the same thing and they didn't make it. So I'm not sure now if it's just pure luck that the 1 out of 3 survived or that the treatment worked on one plant. I was so excited to see my mini mark bloom for the first time but it's nearly finished now after almost 2 months of 6 cute little flowers. I'm happy and will take extra good care of this little treasure.
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience. I have a fungicide that I applied to some orchids a while ago. I do have some phals with some yellow grazing, so I might try it on them. The mini Mark declined in health very quickly, and it was a really strange thing. The new leaves were weird. I am glad to hear yours is healthy and bloomed nicely this year. I hope it will put on an even greater show next year.

Thanks for your demo Ina. With Tolumnias fine roots - are they more prone to root rot and should the media be kept moist or dry completely between drinks?
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
They are prone to root rot. I let it almost dry in between watering.
@jenniferharkins810528 күн бұрын
I will be interested in seeing how these will do. I have heard they are rather difficult. It is very helpful to see repotting because every orchid is different.
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
I have mixed feelings about Tolumnias. They can be super easy to grow if they are bushy and healthy, but if they decline in health, it is difficult to recoup them. But I super recommend give them a try
@renatecormick739929 күн бұрын
Hi Ina. I'm interested to see how the orchids from Poland adapt after their new conditions in your home, especially the Tolumnias. Unfortunately I lost all of my Tolumnias and I suspect it was my fault entirely because I just didn't understand their specific needs. I'm reluctant to try again but as they are inexpensive even for flowering size plants I don't have a lot to lose.
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
The advantage of Tolumnias is the price, if you ever give them another go, let me know how they're doing. I hope they thrive

I am learning what my orchids need to be happy thru the winter and hydration is definitely the most challenging thing. I have to be careful because of their locations to keep them warm enough and not let them be exposed to drafts. I have lined windows with bubble wrap, added temperature triggered space heaters and will, probably, give some added humidity via humidifiers due to the heaters. My UV lighting doesn’t need to change, just the intensity and duration for some locations. So far, so good. It is going to be an adventure! Wish me luck.😊❤🙏🏻🪴
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
I hope they are doing well. I can imagine it might be super dry in some regions with the heater on. I manage without a humidifier but I can see some of my plants are not the happiest. I wish you luck, keep me posted on how your orchids are doing :)
@loribadgero103529 күн бұрын
What kind of temperature and humidity do they like? So cute! 🥰
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
They thrive in intermediate conditions, with daytime temperatures ranging from 21°C to 27°C, and nighttime temperatures of 16°C to 18°C. Humidity something around 50% and 70%. I tend to keep them in my windowsill without any humidifier...

When you receive bare rooted orchids, how often & how long per day do you soak the plant?
@oneorchidaday15 күн бұрын
I didn't soak them everyday. I kept them in water for 2 hours when they arrived. I soaked for 15 minutes in the following day, and after that I skipped 3 days before soaking them again. It depends on your climate as well.
@renatecormick7399Ай бұрын
Hi Ina. Sorry to hear you haven't been well, I know it's difficult to keep on top of your plant collection when you're not in the best of health. Things are overlooked but the plants in general are quite able to survive without us for a while. Hope you are on the mend and feeling much better by now.
