Your old recordings document your life, they’re an audio diary of precious memories. I love listening to our old stuff, despite its technical shortcomings; it has the power to take you back in time like nothing else.

He ignores the fact that some who are home recording can't always afford [or rent and cannot] soundproof the recording room. Subsequently placing the mic 6-8" away from the instrument is an imperative to eliminate more room ambience...unless that's what you want (though most cases I'm not interested in recording the room). Les Paul actually revolutionized recording with this practice after being told he couldn't. They called it "close miking". Even 4 years later this 'professional' makes the same ridiculous comment: _"You don't listen to the guitar from inside of it."_ Right. But at this point we are *creating* a recording. Why advise people against experimentation and creativity? Remember: It's _your_ mic, _your_ guitar, _your_ studio, _your_ *recording.* Experiment and stop listening to fools with supposedly 'foolproof' methods.

You know somebody who broke Law 3? Les Paul. After years of "professionals" and "engineers" telling him you can't place a mic any closer that 18" to the instrument he defied them and revolutionized recording with his 'close-miking" technique. Should I listen to the man who invented multi-track recording while healing with a broken arm or...you? Nolo contendre, Fred.

Of Chapter 2: *Never say never.* While I do believe that you should never *_solely_* use DI to record acoustic guitar I certainly do use mine in conjunction with mic. I have a Fishman Aura Spectrum DI which I find to add dimensions not available through miking alone. I simul record one performance using a mic setup and the DI. This flat straight tone gives me one extra track of the performance that is super clean and very useful and malleable when mixing.

I've been using Pro Tools for 13 years and I love using it, but have grown so sick of the bugs and crashes (which I don't get on FL Studio) that I'm seriously considering testing out Studio One for engineering.

Lets see you record yourself camping out in the wilderness. You cant. They took all the Duel Cassette recorders with AM FM radio away and gave us what you have, high tech commercial BS. You are not hearing the real you.

I humbly apologize but I must have hearing problems because I can't hear the difference between before and after. It could be because I'm using a pair of bose ultra quiet comfort headphones 🎧. Maybe if I were listening to studio headphones, I might hear a difference. I love your video bubby. Awesome presentation. I love vu meters.

I love using Pro Tools, especially the mixing process, the combing, and the fact that its plugins are not fancy, but when blind tested, most of them end up in the final mix. But I do hate Avid 's subscription policy, which for me is plain robbery. It will also force me to change my DAW as soon as my last perpetual license will not be compatible with my OS. That 's why I am already looking for alternatives.

amazing tips, this is exactly what I am always experiencing. I need to hear myself ín the room while I sing, ánd I need to hear the recording. Otherwise I have the feeling I am slightly out of tune as well! But...I create video recordings, and I do not like to have headphones on in the video. Which in ear monitors would you recommend? Or does it work to wear only one in ear? Thanks!

To your point, yes, the SOUND quality overall, if you're buying well known mics, even low price, will be great and will be a matter of EQ. However, and this is the actually big thing, mics will generally have a huge gap on how much db they can support. If you have a singer with a really loud, potent, voice you'll be in trouble most likely if you're using low price mics. You could decrease gain, volume while capturing, yes, but you'll also loose frequencies there. So yes, in general, might never be an issue, but sometimes that loud capture you need to make might be troublesome and ending up loosing quality. There are, though, low price mics that will also support high dB capture.

“If it sounds good it is good” was meant at a song level to encourage artists to break tired rules of production and to expand their sonic creativity. The 10,000 hr rule is a standard criterion for most experts in any field, because unwavering persistence goes farthest in honing one's skills. Yes, one's knowledge or talents can get there sooner, but they will become even more exceptional with countless hours of practice and dedication that most people refuse given our collective shortcut culture. But maybe someday soon AI will kill the expert

I realize this video was published a year ago, so maybe this isn't the best place to ask this question, but does anyone know what the status of Recording Revolution is? I know Joe Gilder took it over for a while, but it seems there has been no activity for some time. Is it now defunct? Thanks.

5th law: get enough practice that you can do away with rule#4...you lost me with that one.lol rather than learn proper technique for recording in stereo, just record in mono instead? that's some pretty bad advice, imo. just get a matched pair of decent mics and learn how to position them. rarely is the phase so messed up that you can't fix it. it usually just needs one of the channels slid to the right or left a hair. recording in stereo is one of the most enjoyable aspects of acoustic guitar production...a mono recording doesn't have that high end that dances back and forth from left to right. for me, the only time I record it in mono is if its a super busy mix. I love that shit lol I also kind of disagree with rule #2. recording the same take through mics and a mic'd up amp simultaneously often sounds badd ass if you know how to layer it properly. it can really pull out some of those magical noises hidden behind the notes.
