Beginners rely go overboard using notches when they discover them, but this video has come to save us all😊

Powerful demonstration! It's the first time I hear those annoying frequencies so clearly, especially with the snare, and understand how to detect them.

I think one of the earliest lessons I've learned in audio is just because you can do X doesn't mean you should. Another great tutorial Joe.

but it is really satisfying doing them notches even after 15 years. The best part of mixing.

I believe this is how the "track seperation" program i use works. Moises, love this program. As a guitar junkie i use this program every other day.

Hi Joe..How should one approach to make a bassy/thick/heavy vocal (recorded in a proper studio) sound clean and upfront in a slow ‘reverby’ / ‘dreamy’ song?

Coming from analogue to digital a couple of years ago, I really miss graphic equalisers with 64 or more bands.

While this one isn't a graphic EQ, I have a Melda Production freeform EQ plug-in where you draw your curve for the whole audio spectrum.

@@DeltaWhiskeyBravo13579 It sounds interesting. I might have it myself, I've got a bundle of plugins from Melda. I don't remember what half of the plugins I download do! 😁 Thanks! 🙂👍

@@Dave-Rough-Diamond-Dunn welcome. Yep I've got a stack of Melda, entry level bundle that I paid to activate, Freeform EQ, MB delay, ultramaximizer limiter, etc. That Freeform EQ, literally use your cursor to click and drag, drawing the curve from 20-20K. Being Melda, there's a rabbit hole of edits you can do inside it too.

Almost every snare has some weird overtones. I’ve had mine for so long, I’ve figured out which frequencies to cut and which to boost to let it sing with its natural voice. It takes trial and error.

That has been my issue sweeping everywhere as a beginner! Any suggestions on how to determine the tones, or does it just take time? Do you have your songs somewhere? Great video Thanks!

@@GriffinPoole that would be nice but I didn't get into this to be rich . Just to be if you understand me. Everyone in this field would love that check . But is that the real reason why! I would hope not brother.

@@KIDD80 nobody said money was the reason for doin music, my point was that nobody should expect to make money from their music when they don't like payin for it themselves... maybe music should be free, but who doesn't wanna get compensated if possible? i mean, do u NOT think u can get paid & make a good living from ur music? that's the only other reason i can think of for not making an honest effort to get paid for what u love to do, especially if it doesn't feel like work... money is never the reason, but itz a damn-good reward... if there was a way to make serious money from music (and there is), why wouldn't a serious artist go for it if they knew it was possible? a doctor may love medicine & helping ppl, but they'll never say no to getting paid for it...
