I've put off drawing comics for a few years, thinking I needed to "get better". I finally made the jump and drew a 16 page comic for a contest. This was massively helpful for me, but I missed the deadline which demotivated me so much I barely drew for the next year. Earlier this year I tried again, and created two comics--one 9 page story, and a 6 page one. The amount of progress I made in paneling and overall art, without even doing a whole lot of practice outside these projects, just proved to me that the best way to get "good enough" is to actually draw comics. I still need to study things like anatomy and other fundamentals, but doing so while also making comics is far more motivating than just studying until I'm "good enough". It doesn't feel like a far away dream anymore. It feels attainable. and if you need it, try to find a contest like The Silent Manga Award if it motivates you and just start making stuff.

My genre of my story consists of: - Fantasy -TimeTravel -Gore -Family Issues Plot Idea for the first draft: A species named Catals fight against a demi-goddess controller of time powers known as Time Capsule, the war stopped because of a newborn baby. I'm still coming up with names, and designs my characters, and trying to make sense out of them, but this is what I'm able to come up with.

Perfectionism in art is toxic for illustrators and cartoonists! It's partly why I missed the Dark Age of comics as a cartoonist because I was still learning art in college!

I've always had a broad range of interests, and not all of them are in the artistic realm, so I always feel like I'm being pulled in a dozen different directions at once. Comics are something I've been wanting to get back into as I used to draw silly little stick-man comics back in grade school. Nothing substantial, of course, and I'd want to step things up with a more Manga-inspired art style, but my main issue now... I am a terrible writer. If I had a writer to illustrate for, however, that'd be perfect! Wish me luck, y'all!

It's a very good journey to not let the creation of your art stand in the way of the story unfolding. I'm glad to hear you have come to the realisation that makes you more able to focus on things of that are most important. You make a very important point with contemplating whether the details that the perfectionist tend to, like an overthinker renumerate endlessly with no real progress really are essential. Efficiency is not only a time subject, but also an optimisation of your art style that conveys what you want to express most efficiently. And I'd imagine that is also the progress you have, where the expression comes first, then the "fleshing" out. While looking at other artists can be a good inspiration and a great learning curve, I, personally think it is a good idea to not constantly compare yourself with others. It's your story, your art, and the more it is you, the more other artists will look at yours and think to themselves, "Oh, that is actually really cool, I love that line". Having said that, it is important that this will not be the operator for you. We can never satisfy everyone, but we will always satisfy someone. Lastly, now also apply the same liberation to your story telling, else you have just moved your perfectionism from the art creation to the story telling, and we wouldn't want that, now would we, ha :). Here’s me pretending like I know anything about anything for 11mins (at a snails pace, sorry I talk slow) If you want some helpful psych advice, I'd suggest watching Dr. K/HealthyGamerGG videos c: Just to build on the video, I realise I only addressed the Art, but this applies to writing too, or basically anything really P.S. I’m still battling a perfectionistic mindset, if you can’t tell lol, but I have improved a bit. Baby steps!

A tip that I picked up from a concept art channel is to make things as a 3D model to trace off of later/ use as reference. I was thinking this might be helpful specifically for your backgrounds, at least for ones that might show up for a decent number of panels or multiple times in the story. You're are is beautiful by the way, and the video was very nice

I was working on a 4 page 18 panels manga story but got overwhelmed cause after the Storyboarding I realize I was doing difficult compositions that I didn’t have the skill for. So I decided to condense the story to 1 page 4 panels as it is my first time ever doing this as a 1 year self taught artist. I was doing all traditional and there were times I wish I digital and resize it but had to erase it and draw the character again. Lmao.

OK but how do you upload then in WEBTOON with that much px given the fact that WEBTOON doesnt allow more than 800x1280?

Long video, very nice. It was really great hearing your personal experiences, and how you have dealt with your obstacles, pulling through, all the while you have also learned the lessons of everything in moderation helps the greater whole, not lest your mental health and body. Regarding the schedules, all depending on how you are and how many hours per day you'd in general like to put into it, I like to think each day has it's personal moods and creative energies in regards to when in the day it is. If this is a somewhat constant in you, maybe you should split the day into different zones. In example mornings, noon, mid day, evening, and night. I, myself is definitely not a routine person, but some people thrive in that, so maybe assign different tasks to these chosen zones, depending on your creative energy in that given time period. It also makes everything more structured as a basis and helps you direct your energies in a specific area. Glad you are also giving thoughts to promotion and marketing. It is an area many artists struggle with.

I should probably mention that you could find much better advice from more veteran Comic Artists, though this is how I did it with my recent story. I guess I didn’t mention everything; of course, you can use your everyday life, your dreams, shower thoughts, etc. to explore more ideas- it all depends. If you struggle with these simple methods, then writing may help you. I’d personally love to explore Miriam Bonastres mind of ideas, idk how she does it errytime! ;-; Hope this was helpful though- I’m not much of a teacher, I don’t have that much wisdom, but I’ll try to share stuff here and there that may be useful, taken with a hint of salt. TBH I would love to try focus more on animatics as well since I’m naturally more quiet, but they take a while, and I have to sacrifice time on my comic to make them :x Maybe one day~

This was great, I get stuck in perfection paralysis at times, so this breather reminded me to looses up a bit. Been working learning 3d for my backgrounds and being a bit overly meticulous. Sometimes simpler is better.

....we're supposed to be making multiple pages. lol i've just making the width 800 and just keep resizes the canvas until i'm done. i guess it's a good thing my webcomic is more a meme instead a serious thing. so i guess it's fine i might be doing it wrong since i'm not being serious with it anyways.

How do you come up with story ideas?

I only feel it's unachievable because i can't think of any story ideas do you have any tips for that?
