VgThe original Irish Wolfhound was brought from Eastern Europe by the Celts. It evolved from the Magyar Hound and Eastern Shepherds, and Old serbian greyhound.

look at this Yes, it is possible that wolves in Ireland escaped by boat, although this is a matter of debate among experts. _Historical context:_ - Wolves became extinct in Ireland in the 18th century. - Ireland was settled by Vikings and other European peoples throughout history. - Boats were a common way of transporting goods and people between Ireland and other countries. _Theories about the escape of wolves:_ - Some experts suggest that wolves may have escaped by boats carrying timber, fur or other goods. - Others propose that wolves may have been intentionally transported by humans, perhaps as pets or for hunting. _Evidence:_ - Historical records of wolves on boats in Ireland are scarce, but there are reports of wolves being transported by sea in other regions. - Genetic studies suggest that wolves in Ireland may have had connections with wolves from other regions of Europe. _Challenges:_ - The lack of detailed historical records of the escape of wolves from Ireland. - The difficulty in determining whether the wolves were transported intentionally or accidentally. _Conclusion:_ While it is possible that wolves from Ireland escaped via boats, the theory is still speculative and requires more research and evidence to be confirmed. Sources: - "The Wolves of Ireland", by Kieran Hickey - "The Extinction of the Irish Wolf", by John D. Mizelle - "The History of Ireland", by Thomas Bartlett - "Genetic Study of Irish Wolves", by Laura C. Adams What did you think?

I grew up believing that I was mostly Irish, but have since learned through DNA analysis that my mom is mostly Scots-English. Dad's people (both Brady and McPartland sides) mostly originate in and around County Cavan, but just about all come from Ireland starting in the mid-1800s. I can only claim to have stepped foot in Ireland by way of a refueling stop at Shannon Airport long enough for me to briefly disembark. Two of my sisters' children each shared vows with their respective spouses on islands that separate Scotland and Ireland without knowing their genetic connection with this region. If I were to ever decide to become an expat of the US, it would be in Ireland.

1603 was the year of her death so I reckon she was in the full effect of the poisoning from the white lead she caked onto her face. Probably made her erratic. If you read about her meeting with Grace O'Malley ten years before, it paints a very different picture of her relationship with the Irish. I don't think she was quite sane towards the very end of her life.

Conquer or death is my family motto , McCabes were one of the more famous GG clans. I still live on the west coast of Scotland so some of us didn't move far in 800 year lol. I hear it's a more common name in the States now. I know originally we were a off shoot of the Macloud family, prob named after a nick name of someone that wore a Cape.i have quite a bit of research, most of my cousins and uncles and aunts are McCabes and I know it goes back years so I'm hoping I'm a genuine ancestor, I just don't trust these genealogy things these days to tell me anything I can't learn in a book..apparently they are very vague on the Dna thing and it proves nothing as we all have History before the last 1000 year so we could have African ancestors for all I know as there was a African Roman legion on Hadrians wall and alot of them got left..that's why alot of us have distant African ancestors here in SW Scotland and NW England.

I am Franco-British guy whose family on the father side migrated to England from Ireland in the late 19th century, my grandfather was pretty tall for his time period although rather lanky (well, he was pretty lanky by the time I knew him and he was in his 80s). An indirect ancestor of mine (the brother of my direct ancestor) was even involved in the Crimean War. So I'd say that there is a possibility that one of my ancestors may have been a Gallowglass at some point but I can't be 100% sure.

Great clip. Just to point out that the photo used at 12m12s is not Arklow but Wicklow town. Also, Wicklow town sits on the estuary of the River Leitrim. The Vartry River (not Vantry) ends its journey at Broadlough close to Knockrobin near Rathnew. The river that flows the short distance from Broadlough to the Irish Sea is the River Leitrim, hence the name of the street, Leitrim Place in Wicklow that is built abreast the riverbank. Great clip. Keep them coming!
@tmcg54714 ай бұрын
The name 'Wicklow' was overlooked in this clip. Ireland's youngest county (1606) is named after its county town, Wicklow which was named by Danish Vikings that settled on the existing Irish settlement of Inbhearr Dí (Inverdee) / Kilmantin (Cill Mhantáin) in the 10th century. They named it 'Vyknigelo' / meadow of the Viking which, in time became Wicklow.

I'm not claiming to be correct, but i heard a different version of how Athlone got its name Apparently Áth Luain means Ford of the Loins, as in the Táin Bó Cuailgne when the two bulls, the Donn Cuailnge and the Finn Bheanach fight, the Donn Cuailnge kills the other bull and its loins spill into the ford, and luan does indeed translate to loin Fantastic video by the way
