Nice video, full of nostalgia. I was an 11B in Ammo platoon, HHB, 1/81FA, 1984 and 1985. Did lots of aggressor work on the firing batteries, always loads of fun. 2/4 hated us because they sucked and never once caught us going in. One night, as we stalked in for our attack, a patrol from 2/4 was coming out. They walked right by us, only meters aways in the pitch black darkness. We sat there in the dark and let them clear out. Then we made our "attack". We got thru the perimeter all the way to the Els and commo trucks, undiscovered. The CO came out of his tent screaming! It was epic!

VERY well, done, Wendell! I was just recently at Fort Sill Field Artillery Museum; never thought I'd ever lay eyes on one of these again! Sure brought back memories of Graf, Inneringen, Fort Von Steuben, Sonnenbrau bier, Strass, move outs, etc. Spent most of my time on the P1A system (D Btry, 1/81st FA), but did get to live fire a P II at White Sands in June of '77. Excellent tribute to the three who died at Heilbronn.

11 Jan 85 - that was one of the coldest winters in Germany. After the Missile burnt we all were put on alert and trucked up to Redleg. We were there in formation until EOD determined that the remaining missile was safe. If needed we were going to carry the pieces into a bunker and EOD was going to light both ends of the remaining stages of the missile to burn it up. - Nuke'em till they glow and shoot'em in the dark - SFC (RET) C co 55th Maint Bn. I was stationed at Wackerheim in 1967-68. I left Germany 8/1968 as an E-5 in D Battery, 1/81st Artillery, Capt. Larry Jarvis Commanding officer. I'm trying to find photos or ANY information of our Pershing Battalions in that era. I am finding hardly any mention of any Pershing battery at Wackerheim in '67-'68. I trained at Fort Sill (2nd/44th Pershing Training) and we successfully fired track vehicle launched 1's from Blanding Utah to White Sands in the fall of 1966. Every thing posted on-line seems to start with the move to Neu Ulm in 8/1968 with the new Pershing II truck mounted system. That move of my unit actually began 1 or 2 weeks after I rotated back to "The State's". I know I/we were there in '67... I have pictures. I was assigned to be the Battery Commander's Driver immediately on arrival to 1/81. That experience as lead jeep in an on-alert convoy, gave me the opportunity when we were NOT on alert, to drive the "Survey Crew" chief around to confirm the presence of pre-surveyed firing site location markers. (Locals had a habit of removing markers they found as they strolled through the woods on week ends) If you can, please provide me with any sites that would provide information about Pershing units during that 1966-1968 time period.

@@dennismartinovich4639 My comment was not intended to garner absolution, but if you want to drag China into my reply then I will tell you point blank this.outside of the European Theater that yes of course China is the main threat to World peace. I have been saying that since 1985 based on my military experience and the rise of China back then, WW3 will be USA & China, but that does not preclude my assessment of Russia and what needs to be done to curtail Putin's actions in Europe and the Middle East. If you want to compare WW2 as to what will come, we had 3 bad actors in 1941, we have 5 now and all of them are nuclear armed(except Iran, but that will be coming so soon now.

Yes, the old Ace Jack alarm. Brings back memories. Our unit was a little different . I was stationed with 128th Sig. Co. attached to 85th USAFAD and 2nd Missle Wing of the Luftwaffe up in Geilenkirchen from '82-'84. Ours was a custodial unit and the Germans had the missiles. Our Q site was in Arsbeck. It seemed most times the the alarm always went off between 0130 and 0300. Always a schock to the system. I do miss those days.

We weren't allowed at the time to take photos anywhere outside of the missiles or sites they would just sensor them. Geilenkirchen is a NATO airbase that was home to AWACS. The base is still there from my understanding. Who was your dad?
