Pershing Missile System 1959-1991 and beyond.....

This is a slide show that will give anyone an idea of the History of the Pershing Missile system from the early 1960's through 1991 when the system was eliminated under the Intermediate Nuclear Forces Treaty with the Soviet Union, It continues on with the friendships and brotherhood that was developed by showing some of the reunions that have taken place since Everyone went their own directions in life....

Nice video, full of nostalgia. I was an 11B in Ammo platoon, HHB, 1/81FA, 1984 and 1985. Did lots of aggressor work on the firing batteries, always loads of fun. 2/4 hated us because they sucked and never once caught us going in. One night, as we stalked in for our attack, a patrol from 2/4 was coming out. They walked right by us, only meters aways in the pitch black darkness. We sat there in the dark and let them clear out. Then we made our "attack". We got thru the perimeter all the way to the Els and commo trucks, undiscovered. The CO came out of his tent screaming! It was epic!

Excellent video. I worked with Pershing from 1971 to 1990 and finally went to Longhorn Depot at Karnack, TX in May 1991 with my old friends and some Russians to watch the final firing of two propulsion sections and then have a nice evening dinner. Maybe we had Chicken Kiev.

VERY well, done, Wendell! I was just recently at Fort Sill Field Artillery Museum; never thought I'd ever lay eyes on one of these again! Sure brought back memories of Graf, Inneringen, Fort Von Steuben, Sonnenbrau bier, Strass, move outs, etc. Spent most of my time on the P1A system (D Btry, 1/81st FA), but did get to live fire a P II at White Sands in June of '77. Excellent tribute to the three who died at Heilbronn.

I was at D 3/84 at AK from 83-85. Charlie Battery 3/84 was on Reg Leg in Jan 85 when the accident occurred.

I see several names commenting here that I recognize from over the years... including my dad's LOL :) I was, of course, a kid during most of this era, although I was stationed in Stuttgart as a young adult when dad was at Neu Ulm during the dismantling phase of the Pershing missile.

11 Jan 85 - that was one of the coldest winters in Germany. After the Missile burnt we all were put on alert and trucked up to Redleg. We were there in formation until EOD determined that the remaining missile was safe. If needed we were going to carry the pieces into a bunker and EOD was going to light both ends of the remaining stages of the missile to burn it up. - Nuke'em till they glow and shoot'em in the dark - SFC (RET) C co 55th Maint Bn.
