Is there no disk-inserted switch on this drive ? I have two of them in one of my A2000s, one of them does not detect the the inserted disk (but waits for it with the usual clicking noise).. When I compare the semi-broken against the working one, there is no visible difference. Both have only one pin with the hall-sensor for the write protection, and when I insert a disk in the working one, I see no mechanical activity besides the head being pushed down to the floppy. Is it possible that the head unit has the disk-inserted switch ?
@peoyli9 күн бұрын
Reply to myself :) The floppy-inserted switch is actually the one on the other side. Just as the reed for the write protection tab, this one is controlled by a magnet on the eject button. Got it recognizing that a floppy was inserted (just a cleanup did that), but it refuses to load any of the (good set of) test disks I have. Probably alignment or cap problem or all three of them.

Everything very nice and calm explained - very nice, thank you very much! Except I personally wouldn't go for the GQ-4X as it seems pretty expensive (together with that adapter and UV Eraser its for sure over 200$). The TL866II+ is obsolete and also still pretty expensive so I'll go for the T48 kzbin.info/www/bejne/amO5dKCFi7x0r8U The only thing I'm note yet sure about is the adapter. In this video an already built one for the T48 is shown: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bInEcpalor2LqM0 There's one you can build on your own for the TL866II+ kzbin.info/www/bejne/gp-xpWCXithlZq8 but I still have to figure out if that one can be used for the T48 too...

I admire all that work in making the mod but why not simply put the A500 Mini PCB into an original A500 case and use the real A500 keyboard. The mini keyboard is not pratical or even suitable for typing on. Get one of those $10 mini usb bluetooth keyboards and plug it into the usb socket, much less expensive and much easier to type on.

That eject button could be modified to take up the space of the button hole. Either by gluing a piece of plastic to the side of it or by 3D printing a new button shape. Would be a lot a lot of work for aesthetics, but the OCD in me would not let me rest.

Would be nice to know the following : could you burn rom 1.2, 1.3, and 3.1 (size wise that should be possible) -- but how would you go about selecting the 2nd 256k image ? Also, similarly, using 27c160, and 27c322 eproms for 2MB or 4MB eproms, (for 27c800, you could have 2x512kb roms, or up to 4x256kb roms, but for 27c160, one should be able to have 8x256kb roms, or 4x512kb roms or a combination there of, finally the 27c322 roms should hold 16x256kb roms, or 8x512kb roms ) -- do you know how one would select between up to 16 rom images ? -- i am guessing a pcb to control this might be in order).
@retrofriendsАй бұрын
If you make a rom switcher that lets you pick between 16 roms using these chips, I would post it up somewhere because that would be unique. This is a simple ROM switcher using one wire to select one half of the chip or the other. Anything else would be way more complicated and beyond the scope of what I had hoped to achieve with this video.

So our eyes aren't as sharp as they once were or our hands as steady!) I have a question: There is a copy and paste operation in the FlashFloppy firmware. I don't yet know how to properly make use of it. My thought is that I would include a "blank" disk image and use the copy and paste (as new) to add new disks. What else would a copy-paste rotary menu option be for? Could you put together a video demonstrating this?

Is it possible to send commands to the GoTek to have it generate disk image files as if you inserted a blank, unformatted disk? It seems like an obviously useful thing though I am unable to find any such thing easily. I'm guessing you just add a blank disk image to USB drive but it would be much more convenient if the GoTek could somehow be directed to create disk image files and then mount them.
@retrofriendsАй бұрын
Each host device (Amiga. IBM, Roland, etc) has its own type of image file. Being able to generate all those different types would I imagine be impossible.
@erroneus00Ай бұрын
@@retrofriends True, however, that's why there's a config file. All that would be needed is a template file indicated in the config file for it to replicate into a new disk image... or perhaps a list of disk image files if the system supports multiple formats. It wouldn't be impossible, it would be trivial. All that would then be needed is a menu system which says "create new disk" and if there is more than one template image file in the config, the user would select from one of the template files listed in the config file.

@@retrofriends I don't "facebook" so no. But there are two things I definitely know after years and years of experience. 1. I am not as smart as the next guy. 2. As evidence continues to demonstrate, if I came up with an idea, someone else already thought of it years before. I merely pointed out the obvious. But I can tell you one reason it hasn't already happened -- the chip programming environment space is probably just about full already. To expand features probably requires a "next chip" release of the thing.

@@erroneus00 The point of my reply was to direct you to the place where your ideas would get appreciated and possibly implemented. a stupid question but why cant you plug the mouse in when the amiga is powered on ??
@retrofriends2 ай бұрын
Certainly not a dumb question. These days with USB being fully plug and play, the connector is engineered to prevent you from shorting 5v to another pin. On older computers the DB style connectors can easily cause a short if not plugged in perfectly. I should know, back in the day I had to replace my Amiga 2000 motherboard because I tried to plug the printer connector in while the machine was on.

I tried geo tec emulator on a yamaha Rm1x after creating 100 floppydisks on a pen drive i can load a pattern to the Rm1x, but when on saving on a blank disk let's say disk 02 the save will destroy all 100 images for 1 floppy image so when read the pendrive it's just Ben partitioned to 1 3.5 floppy of 1.5mb can you help me with this problem?

@lloydrobertevans2 ай бұрын
@retrofriends let's say on a 16gb pen drive, and on it, there are 100 virtual floppy disk folders. Each disk can only be accessed only at a time, so on the geotek emulator, it would be displayed 01 for disk 1, so on up to 100 Like said, just say I loaded disk one to my midi sequencer, so file loads to sequencer without problems Let's say I wanted to save a midu sequence file from the midi sequencer So, I selected 02 floppy on the emulator to be saved to disk 2, which is an empty disk So it saves to the pen drive now on this pen drive. There are 100 virtual floppys. I have selected disk 2 or 02 on the emulator. But on saving the file, the sequencer or transmission error has erased the 100 virtual floppy folders to none, so on 16g pen drive on emulator is now seen as one floppy disk 1.5 mb in size All 100 disk folders are gone when checking the pen drive on a Windows system now where, before, there on the pen drive, there were 100 folders Do you understand now?

Oh, hello Hans. Not sure I can agree with the statement that most Amigas have hard drives, considering the a500 is the most prevalent. Keep in mind most people don't have the funds and/or ability to add or maintain a HDD on an Amiga. The easiest and cheapest way to get an Amiga up and running with your favorite classic games is with a Gotek, and best selling models have the rotary encoder. I have sold hundreds myself. That's not to say all of this applies to everyone - to each his own.
