“That forced Joe to go to those 16s”… no it didn’t, you had the point lead, you close the seventeens and make them chase you… cricket isn’t a strategic game, it’s been proven that if you are ahead on points you close numbers, if you are behind you try to point…. That’s the only strategy needed, and that’s not a strategy that’s just how to play the game
@BullshotDarts8 күн бұрын
Cricket is very strategic lol your strategy will only get you so far. I could give a ton of examples of why to point with the point lead.
@joshuasavage11287 күн бұрын
@@BullshotDarts pointing with the point lead isn’t a strategy, scoring more points than your opponent is the aim of the game, in the specific situation in this video, you had no scoring segments open, they had just opened 17’s, meaning they can score on it next go, you needed at least four 16s to score any points, or three 17s to force them into a situation where they needed 4 hits to score, instead you let them have 3 scoring darts on their next turn and you lost the leg… again that’s not strategy that’s just playing the game properly… if you had a scoring section open, by all means point on it with the point lead… again that’s just common sense… but if you are ahead on points, and they get an opportunity to point, you should close…. That is literally all the strategy required for cricket… not trying to be rude (that’s why I deleted previous comment) but it really is a simple game… and also a lot of fun

There may not be "one best way" for everyone to throw, but there absolutely are bad ways to throw that should be avoided.

this is a great reference video to watch over and over again. wondering if you have any suggestions for calming my nerves. I'm technically better than most of the guys I play with but my nerves seem to be the great equalizer. all of these tips will help a little bit, but is there a specific exercise or mindset I can take at the oche to calm myself down in the moment?

For anyone watching this: No professional in the world points at their target after the throw. One pro even said to not point at your target after you've released the dart. It's also completely counterintuitive to do so as you release the dart at or slightly before the peak of the arch of your swinging arm. By pointing at the target after the release you're either manually readjusting your arm after the release (which does nothing) or you're way overshooting unless you release your darts at the very last moment and shoot your darts like lasers.
@BullshotDarts8 күн бұрын
It’s more of a mental tip. Telling yourself to point at the target on the follow through will force you to fully extend. My number one tip to a new player that asks me is to point at their target after they throw. They never actually point at it, but that tip forces them to follow through
@keithwilson-h1n19 күн бұрын
Hi bud! I'll subscribe, but my question is... where are you fucusing your eyes? Specifically, what are you aiming along? I've watched a video where the guy said to aim thru the hole made between your thumb and forefinger. Not sure thats working for me. Like a rifle, is it better to aim along the top? or just look past the dart to the board? Or if you have a video on this, hit me! Thanks New Dart player.
@BullshotDarts8 күн бұрын
It all depends where you hold the dart. If you hold the dart in a position that makes it easy to look through that hole, then that might work. I look focus my eyes on the target with my dart hand in line with my target and dominant eye.

Well even pros say not to point. You hand goes in the direction on of where you throw. Slow motion or even pause pros they never point there hand falls straight down. Really you just get a feel of where the dart is going to go after practicing thousands of times.
@BullshotDarts22 күн бұрын
Works for some doesn’t work for others. If a new player asks me for one tip to help them, I’d say point at your target when you throw. It’s more mental and yeah after many prwctice it just comes natural

What's a realistic goal
@stannelson2582Ай бұрын
Fat singles every dart is a good goal. Then build from there.
@BullshotDarts22 күн бұрын
Depends on your skill level and stuff. For some a realistic goal might be to hit a sub 30 darter in prwctice, for others it might be to hit a sub 15 darter. Think of a goal that is not too easy or hard. Something challenging, but something you can do

11/02/24 Thanks Phil, another excellent clip for us to chew on and see how it works for us! Love the basketball free throw analogy. I’m a drummer who was taught (as I now teach my students) to play through the drum, i.e. you don’t suddenly stop your arm, wrist and hand when you strike the drum, you absolutely follow through. Especially when crashing a cymbal (which most mimics a dart throw) I’m throwing my arm out striking the cymbal and following through completely. Thanks again 🎯 🎯🎯

The audio and video are slightly out of sync, not a big deal to me, just FYI in case you need to adjust something in future. Practice is great for fixing problems, but it will never replace the experience (and fun) of facing an opponent at a gathering, be it social or competitive.
