roki is 2028 or 2029, 2027 would be super early, possible but unlikely. 4 years of team control remaining (5 years of "league control"). people need to stop talking about him coming to mlb this offseason, it's really insulting to baseball fans in japan, especially to the fans of lotte chiba marines. i know people are not intending to be racist but it can be perceived as such. i.e the ignorance and lack of importance placed on playing in the npb league is rather demeaning. again, i know people do not have malicious intentions. fans are just excited. but on the other side of this earth, perception is different, and they hear these things. and when you really think it through, this is indirect tampering at it's worst. you're essentially asking a team and fan base to give up their star player for free (essentially) when there's 5 years left in team control. note that ohtani's situation was different and it's a not good comparison.

How would it be perceived to be racist to think that the MLB is the ideal destination for a Japanese player clearly too good for his league?

@@andrewmalone8709 thanks for asking the question. the point is that the npb league (and team) is being disrespected by being told that it is an inferior league compared to the mlb and less desirable. roki is under team control for 4 more years. roki is supposed to play in japan for 5 more years and that's an obligation the player has to the team and the league (since roki already played in the league for 4 years, it's an add'l 4 years for domestic free agency, or an add'l 5 years for international free agency). the posting process is like a treaty, but between baseball leagues and not governments. similar to how the u.s. has treaties with mexico. the mlb has an agreement with the npb which allows mlb teams to acquire players from npb teams before they reach international free agency (also, roki shouldn't be making these public statements to try to pressure the team to release him early but that's a different issue). the lack of effort u.s. journalists/media spend to try to understand the league, posting process, and condoning actions that circumvent the agreement between the two leagues is unfair to npb and the japanese baseball fans. the japanese npb league is not part mlb. it is an independent league with a rich tradition. i.e they are equals, and not subordinate to them. similar to how mexico is not inferior to the u.s. even though they have a smaller economy. they are still equals. another area where i see a similar issue is when u.s. journalists talk about the npb (majors) as being aaaa or between aaa and the majors. keep in mind aaa is part of the mlb system and is completely subordinate to the majors within the system. so what they're saying implies that npb majors is subordinate to the mlb majors - which is wrong. i understand that most people that say that don't really mean it that way, and they're just not thinking about it very deeply, but when you're on the receiving end, these things become a lot more noticeable.

The problem of this episode is you only talk about value but not the trade off. What is Rangers situation next year? They have big unmovable contracts like Seager and Degrom (not saying they should move them). And they have bad financial situation and desire to avoid luxury tax. On the other side, they have 2 SPs and 3-4 BP arms including a closer to fill. What is your magic other than saying they should go above the luxury threshold? What can you get from a Heim or Lowe trade now? Marcus is probably a movable asset that has some value and potentially may find a market.
@Glitterrrr

4.5 for Leclerc is too much. Not that his ceiling is low but his floor is lower. He always feels like too good for 6 or 7th inning but too weak to close the game. Rangers need a dependable arm who is consistent and durable. Leclerc has neither.

I can't believe there were only 26 complete games pitched league wide this year. That is a travesty. The starter is now a place holder for the bullpen. Please return to the 10 man pitching staff and take a little juice out of the ball. Pardon being off topic. Done venting. Go Rangers!

The Rangers don't need more mega-contracts. They need CY to make better use of the $220 to $240 million he'll have to work with in 2025. The 6th highest payroll in baseball should get you more than 78 wins.

Ain’t happening, the Rangers are still trying to recover from Bally Sports f***ing them over and apparently will be reeling from that for years. There’s even talks of them trading Semien, Garcia or even Seager… gtfo with this unrealistic dreaming, we got our crown and it cost us dearly because we put our chips on a pathetic network that can’t pay up and now we’re going to be a mediocre team again because of it…

Look at the World Series this year , Betts , Freeman, Stanton , all guys 32 or older making plays ,I don’t think age is a big of a factor as people think especially with Marcus guy missed 11 games in 6 seasons , after last season everyone should be on block it’s not uncommon for teams that win World Series to start a rebuild after not every team has the Yankees payroll

This would be to hard to take you can’t get rid of an elite second baseman like Semien. You would have to get someone like Gerrit Cole or Chris sale to make this worth it
