In general, no. Guard up was a decent extra slot option in MHW for specific matchups (fatalis for example), but the skill got heavily nerfed in rise to the point where it's almost not even worth considering.

These sets are essentially the highest potential average damage metas. If you feel like you are more comfortable with guard skills, evade skills, etc, definitely add them in! As a note I would recommend not pairing guard skills with val's set if you're trying to keep resentment up, as they would work against each other. Pro polish is fairly comfortable at level 2, but some may want more. The drop in dps to gain wirebug whisperer basically is a wash in terms of numbers (more spirals vs higher damage from less frequent spirals). I would never recommended evade extender to any Lancer.

I think the majority of players use the join request feature fairly often.

Honestly the best advice I can give for lance would be to focus on the triple upwards poke (mid-thrust) to sidestep combo. After the sidestep you are able to turn your character about 30 degrees in either direction so you can essentially stay glued to the spot you want to hit (until the monster moves). This style also gives you more chances to counter when a monster is about to attack (very little animation lock) than the meta of spiral thrust and charged sweeps. Consider using build #3 until you get comfortable. I'm also working on another "non-meta" lance video right now which includes some more fun stuff to mess around with for lance players. That should be up later tonight.

That talisman is definitely better than the one I'm using in the video, but when I plugged your build in using the CE3 2-0-0 talisman I showed no results. I had to drop a level 1 skill (SS down to 2) to make it possible, so let me know if I'm missing something. Your calculations are just slightly off, so I'll run through it for your set. Weapon Raw=238 Raw modifier 1.1x from DH Added Raw 20 (Resuscitate) Added Raw 15 (Charm/Talon) 238x1.1=261.8 This gets rounded down to 261 as we ignore any decimal here. 261+35=296 Affinity modifier is 1.22x Sharpness modifier is 1.32x EFR comes out as 476.6784 (No Resent) and 500.8344 (With Resent) With my talismans I can pull off the same with one less point in CE, so mine would come in at 468.864 and 492.624 respectively. This actually does still barely beat my Valstrax build, and should give better scaling with attack buffs. I'd like to add a note about this in my video and credit you with the find if that's OK with you!

Oh, my bad then. I haven't rounded the decimals between the calculations, so it might ended up being sligthly higher than it truly is. About the SS being Lv2, I filled up the 3 Lv1 slots from full Valx with SS, and the Lv1 slot in the weapon with Flinch Free. Maybe you missed that slot in the set searcher. Thanks for the advice, I'll round the decimals the next time I calculate something. Sure, I'm perfectly fine with you adding a note with my set. I'm sorry if the no-rounding issue bothered you.

@@eternalhazard8461 it's pretty obvious what weapon would be 1 but that would be like saying the sky is blue lol. that aside, have seen ranged players not being able to handle their zone and cart as well.

@@eternalhazard8461 last game I played in farming gem parts tonight I had to carry as a poison sns. I wish more people played lance it would have made the run way faster instead of ls players standing still when the monster moves in the other direction.

Depends how aggressive you are. This build gets 75% affinity on weak spots so MT3 would change the effective sharpness from 20 hits to 50 hits on average. MT2 you'd only get 28-29 on average. Basically if you can get more hits than the difference in your PP window, it's more efficient to run PP.

I understand people who advocate for guard on lance if they're playing a more defense oriented tank build. Evade extender on the other hand I would never recommend to any lance player as it ruins the sidehop distances for stab/swipe combos.

You don't need guard if you are using anchor rage. For spiral trust, guard is necessary if you want to block all kinds of attacks. Evade extender is terrible for lance in mhrise because it destroys your position due to how long your hop would be.

That's perfectly fine! At the end of the day these are just my suggestions so feel free to tweak them as much a you like to suit your own playstyle! I realize I'm in the minority as a lance main that doesn't use/recommend guard, but it's what feels best to me. I guess I just got used being without it in the first few games and just never felt the need to change.

Guard in rise is mostly like training wheels. if you know how to manage starmina then there is no need for the skill tbh that plus instant guard also helps a lot.

Really depends on your playstyle. I personally don't tend to run guard, but a lot of people swear by it.

You should be running level 3 guard.

@@Frozirra I think it depends if you're using anchor rage, or spiral thrust. Having guard makes successfully landing spiral thrust counter much more common during the later monsters. And the inverse for anchor rage. So less guard= more attack absorbed, and then transferred into you. :)
