I did. I plugged it in during the video. Nothing else happened to show you than what is already in the video. It doesn’t do anything except clear the alert.

What is the difference between doing this & using the BMS reset function in the Service mode menu?
@TeslaMomUSA3 күн бұрын
The BMS reset function would just be like turning your computer off and on again. It will still have the alert code active. This device resets the alert code so that it goes away until it gets triggered again.

Thank you for the concise analysis. Ive run a 2014 P85 Model S since 2015 bought new, now at 146,000 UK miles. My battery was replaced under warranty at 75,000 miles (coolent leak). Car went into 65mph snail mode, Tesla were exemplary, Freemont detected fault at 2am LA time organised new battery (reconditioned) job done in 2 days. I work with 186450 cells, totally understand why Tesla would err on the cautious side of the operating envelope given all the bad press of EV fires plus totally get why they just fit a replacement however I guess what we are all seeing is the evolution of the 3rd party battery repair industry of which the BMS reset device and your diligence to monitor the initial state and progression of state is so interesting to all us other "classic" Tesla owners, were all going to be at this point some time. Voluntarily staying away from Supercharging is a good idea for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if Tesla implement some software to detect a BMS reset and void Supercharging, got to have my shareholder head on. Either way it does not detract from an excellent idea to reset the BMS with a limited 8 cycles to one car with enhanced owner awareness, my guess is the weak link is us owners! But if I get the 029 fail Ill be straight after the BMS reset device like a shot, trying not to end up the weal link.

I applaud you on doing a cell balancing charge. Lithium batteries are like all other batteries. They will become lazy if allowed. Batteries that are always charger in a certain range, call it the exercise zone will over time lose charging area in the bottom and the top of the charge area. Think of it as burning a stick candle at both ends. This is especially common in lead acid batteries. Charging a battery with fresh electrons exercises the area in the battery being charged. There is a theory that teslas that aren't driven and for that matter charged regularly are more prone to failure. That could be. It's the same for car batteries. Over time the sulphuric acid in the car batteries will coat the lead plates. This is called sulphating. The battery will become resistive to accepting a charge as more area of the plates are covered. With regular use the acid will stay in the water solution instead of attaching to the plates. Battery companies like ac Delco and interstate remove new batteries from the shelf after about a year. I know interstate puts these batteries on special chargers to force charge these batteries aka cell balance them. Batteries that pass this are then sold as blem or reconditioned. So running a battery way down then charging to 100% from time to time can be good for longevity.

Tesla is leaving a lot of money on the table by not offering something like Apple Care. imagine "Battery Care" where you pay monthly for a higher tier of Tesla Insurance that covers battery replacement out of warranty.
@TeslaMomUSA9 ай бұрын
And then you’ve got EV manufacturers in China, Nio, with battery changing stations rather than chargers, where you drive in and get your empty battery switched for a full one . It would be great if this battery thing could be something like that. They get to keep the old one for free as it is, and then remanufacture it and sell it for almost full price? It doesn’t seem right
@surfntrucks9 ай бұрын
@@TeslaMomUSA Tesla had a battery swap location in California but Tesla claims a lot of people didn't use it. They went to the superchargers because they were free. Now the superchargers are not free so maybe Tesla revisiting the battery swap option might be a good idea? Or a 3rd party business can build a network of battery swapping stations? Make it a monthly membership fee so the company can stay in business and then charge a battery swap fee of like $40 to swap out the battery anytime you want.There is a company named ONE that makes batteries for Teslas already, this business could buy batteries from them. Or they can salvage batteries from wrecked Teslas to add to inventory. But the goal of all this is to make Tesla owners worry free about their battery because it would cost next to nothing to swap it out. I know a lot of Tesla owners wouldn't mind paying a monthly fee or subscription to swap out their battery.

So true! I would prefer to get as much life out of my battery as possible- safely, efficiently, and as cost effectively as possible.
@wickham539 ай бұрын
I agree with you, except that replacing the battery would not be a waste. Tesla will absolutely sell it to a company to reclaim the components. This does not in any way excuse them for not taking more time to solve the problem in a more cost-effective way for the customer.
@TeslaMomUSA9 ай бұрын
@@wickham53yes, I didn’t mean that the battery went to a landfill. I meant the Tesla service centers don’t repair the batteries. They sell you one, new or reman , give you nothing for the old one, then send the old one to their factory to be remanufactured and sold eventually to another customer for $14k or given to another customer free under warranty. Brilliant business model for them
@GTOFan3505 ай бұрын
What's the wasteful part? Li-ion batteries are over 90% recycled, all the rare earth metals are recycled, even the metal casing is recycled. The only waste would be transport but the same could be said about all materials that are recycled.
@chargepozitive10 ай бұрын
Thanks for sharing your experience! I agree with you that it’s frustrating that the only solution they claim is to replace the battery at high cost to the user especially if it can be saved/repaired. Having 2 replacements under warranty was frustrating but definitely not wanting to deal with this potential out of warranty (almost to 120k miles now on my model Y).
