I have a DSL20, immediately changed the (shitty) speaker : put a good Celestion G12H instead, now that's a good Amp !

Blues Jr has .0022 uF coupling caps that cut off a lot of the low end signal. Princeton has .02uF coupling caps giving it a fuller less boxy sound. This is a common mod to make BJ sound better, along with a few other simple changes.

good question, man. i looked it up; i believe the amp in store has a Jensen and mine has an Eminence. i didn't play them side by side, but i set mine the same as i did in store (just dropped the middle a bit more) and i like the way it sounded.

Hi, your Blues Junior has white pots. Is this the Sweetwater-Version with Eminence Speaker? How Does it compare to the Jensen and Celestion -Speaker? Many thanks for your answer in advance.

Hi Frank. Yep, it came from Sweetwater. I looked and you are correct; it has a "Red White and Blues" Eminence speaker. I think the Eminence is good, once you find a setting you like. I never tried changing the speaker, so I don't know, but now I am curious about the Jensen and Celestion too. At first this amp sounded kind of 'sharp' too me and I wanted to get a smoother sound. So, I played it next to a Blues Deluxe (and a Princeton); and by dropping the treble, etc, I was able to simulate the smoother sound I wanted. Sorry I couldn't answer the speaker question, but I hope these videos are helpful for ideas on setting the amp. Thanks for the question and I appreciate you watching.

@@TPBB4445Many thanks for your response. Do you think that the Blues Jr. in the store (Jensen speaker) sounds basically sharper than yours with the Eminence speaker?

@@frankschneider2353 Hi. The short answer is...I'm not sure. I do think that either one can be set to sound good. I have heard people say these amps can be "ice picky." I don't think it's that bad, but it's true that the treble is really active. If you are buying, I think either one is fine. When I was looking to buy I honestly didn't know about the speakers; I think I got a good deal and I thought the tweed looked cool (i didn't notice the dial color was different). I was looking to buy a Princeton, but I liked the master volume on the Blues Jr. I also looked at the Hot Rod Deluxe and a Blues Deluxe (which I really liked); they sound great, but they were bigger than I wanted. Nothing is ever perfect, but I guess I think that whatever you get (or already have), can be made to work. I don't really modify gear unless it's broken, but some people enjoy modifying; switching speakers, etc. I am happy with this amp and the Eminence speaker, but I think I would have been just as happy with the Jensen. That's the long answer...hope it was helpful ?

@@TPBB4445 Hi, today I was in our local Music store and I could try out the Blues Jr. with all of the three speakers. There were three Blues Jr. equipped with a different soeaker, so I played them side by side with the same settings. The Celestion was to my mind a little bit boring, sounded like a contemporary rock speaker …darker tones without the warmth of a Vintage style, bluesy speaker. The Jensen sounded nice on the clean Tones but man …this is such a loud speaker. On the dirty Tones it sounded often harsh. And sometimes it sounds to bright. The Eminence seems to be a good compromise. It sounds fuller, more round than the Jensen without loosing the Vintage style bluesy touch. I think I will buy soon the Blues Jr. - Eminence Version. I wish you a lot of fun with your Blues Jr.
