Can anyone tell me if this strobe tuner will allow me to tune down a half step or to drop D with relative ease?
@PetersonTuners25 күн бұрын
Out of the box, our tuners are fully chromatic in equal temperament. You can tune down by a half step or to drop D without needing to adjust anything. If you would like to tune down with a Sweetener engaged, select the Sweetener then use the Drop/Capo setting to transpose the Sweetener. Setting the Drop/Capo to -1 will still show E A D G B E for guitar, but the tuner will be tuning to Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb while also applying the Sweetener values you have selected. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to open a support ticket on our website and one of our technicians will help you. www.petersontuners.com/support/newticket

@PetersonTunersАй бұрын
Thanks for your question. GTR is the name of the Sweetener. If you would like to use the tuner without any sweetener settings, set the preset to EQU. GTR will always apply it's sweetened tuning data to the tuner is it is selected.
@GabrielSkolderbladАй бұрын
@@PetersonTuners Yea I know i could use EQU but i still want a preset that is only for guitar.
@PetersonTuners28 күн бұрын
The GTR preset will always apply the offsets for that sweetener. If you wanted a zero offset Guitar preset, you could create on in Peterson Connect as a Custom Sweetener with no offsets, however it could not be named GTR because that is a factory Sweetener. The three letter name for custom sweeteners cannot match any factory sweeteners.

You may tune to E Flat in the EQU, equal temperament, by two ways. Tune down by one half step. The factory settings will show sharps, so you will see D# G# C# F# A# D#. This setting can be changed to Flats within the Settings Screen if you prefer flats. Or, you may use the Drop/Capo setting. This will work with any Sweetener value. Press the Menu Up or Down button until the Drop/Capo Setting Flashes, then click the Minus button once. You will see a -1 appear on the display. The tuner will now transpose by 1 half step. Tune to the usual E A D G B E, though your pitches will be Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb. I'm so glad you decided to listen to user feedback :) I have a little more feedback for live use if you ever do an update. It'd be awesome, if instead of a "tiny speaker with a slash" in the corner when muted, entire display changed color to show when one is muted (Since you have all these colors available, why not use them functionally?) When playing on stage, it's kind of hard to see whether that's engaged or not. For example, if it's a "serious" gig, I'm focused on the performance, and once I get on stage, I might not want to strum (for all to hear) to see if my guitar is muted or not. When you have all eyes on you, it's nice not to have to look down too closely at pedals... Instead, I could just see "The letters are white... I'm muted" . Just a thought, if you ever do an update :) Overall, great job! I'll be replacing my Polytune 3 with this, as I need a better tuner to intonate my guitars as well :)

I tune to 432Hz and have to calibrate my tuner every time I need to tune. Does anyone know if this tuner keeps its calibration settings for every use? Are there any tuners on the market today that you know maintain their calibration settings?
@PetersonTuners2 ай бұрын
Thank you for your question. Our tuners do maintain any changes made to the Concert A or Transposition through a power cycle. The changed parameters save to the active preset. Say you are using the EQU (equal temperament) preset and change the concert a to 432. EQU will persist at 432 unless the tuner is reset to factory or a change is made to the concert A reference point. No other presets will be affected by this change. For example, ACU, GTR, JMI, all other presets will still be at 440.

Dissapointed. Two brand new Jackson guitars -- have not once been able to get the strobing to actually stop ... wheel just keeps rolling, and then rolls the other way .. but never is stationery.
@PetersonTuners3 ай бұрын
The strobe does stop when the incoming pitch frequency and the internal tone generator match exactly. However, due to the accuracy of strobe tuners the image may never actually stop moving. The strobe will display the attack, sustain, and decay of each pitch. The attack will always be slightly sharp of the sustain as the string will be bent and tension increased at the note is struck. Whether this is from a plectrum, finger, hammer, or tonguing a reed, the attack will always be just sharp of the sustain. As the pitch sustains, the pitch will settle more flat than the attack, and the decay will begin to show harmonic content. In the case of guitars, the strobe doing a little "dance" and wiggling back and forth is an in tune reading. Depending upon the harmonic density of the instrument, this may or may not happen. There are many factors involved, the wood, the resonance of the wood, the pick or finger, the strings, harmonic dissonance in the strings, etc. etc. Tuning with a strobe will always result in the most accurate form of tuning thanks to the amount of information provided from the tuner.
@DelaneyHF3 ай бұрын
It's not completely clear to me when to use which mode.
@PetersonTuners3 ай бұрын
Much of the decision is personal preference. If you would like the Tune Screen to always be visible, Monitor Mode is the output mode you would like. If you run many pedals after your tuner, have long cable runs, or use an instrument with a very low output, Monitor Mode or Buffered Bypass would be best. Buffered Bypass will turn the display off when the pedal in unmuted. If you would like to preserve the sonic qualities of your instrument without any coloration, True Bypass is the output mode for this purpose. True Bypass completely lifts the audio signal from the tune engine and does not employ the buffer to alter the sound quality at all. If you have any questions about the output modes and how to best use them for your setup, please open a helpdesk ticket on our website. One of our technicians will be happy to help you. www.petersontuners.com/support/newticket

My Snark tuner was telling me my mandolin did not have correct intonation and was out on the 12th fret, implying that the bridge needed to move. Unfortunately, the bridge on this particular mandolin is not (easily) moveable, so it would need a visit to a technician. However, before doing that, I thought I'd confirm the problem with a strobe tuner, and I chose the Peterson clip-on, which arrived today. As soon as I tried it, it showed me that the intonation on my mandolin is perfect! No need to waste a trip to see a technician on a pointless errand. No more Snarks for me; I'm hooked on Peterson! And the "sweetened" mandolin tuning sounds very cool, too!

Thank you for your question. Yes, you can have multiple instances of a Sweetener with differing parameters. It can be setup via Peterson Connect on our website. Attach your tuner to your computer, pair the device to your account, then navigate to the configuration page. Add GTR from your Sweetener Library on the left side of the screen to your current configuration on the center of the screen. Change the color to Green (this is assuming your global color is not Green). Hover over that Preset and click the circle with the down arrow to Add a Default Copy of GTR. Once the default copy has been added, change the color and capo settings to Orange and +2. Click the Add a Default Copy button again and repeat the process for Red and +3. Then click the Update Tuner button in the lower right of the screen, red circle with a downward facing arrow. You will now have 3 instances of GTR on your tuner with differing parameters for each. You lost me. You sold me on the idea that strobe tuners create immediate feedback without the need to compute pitch like digital tuners do then told me that your digital tuners are just as good. Could you please explain why the traditional strobe is the same as your digital tuners but not other digital tuners?
@PetersonTuners7 ай бұрын
Thanks for the question. Our digital tuners operate on the same principle as our mechanical tuners. Our mechanical tuners spin the disk at a set rate in relationship to the incoming pitch. The strobes flash at the frequency of the incoming pitch. When the phases align, the wheel appears to stand still. Our digital tuners operate on this same phase identification, but instead of a spinning wheel, the incoming frequency is compared to a static internal tone generator. The phase is then displayed in real time on the digital display as either sharp or flat of the target pitch by the spinning strobe image.

Hope this helps; It's not the accuracy of the tuner that's different, it's how best to display that accuracy. An LCD display is limited by the number of LCDs it's possible to fit into a screen small enough to be practical, but many hundreds would be needed to properly display the extremely fine accuracy. For example; If 100 LCDs were used, each one could only display to an accuracy of 1%, so when you tuned to the "target" LCD you might still not be exactly in tune. The solution is to use the rotating disc method which can display the tuning precisely without needing a lot of LCDs because it only has to be able to display movement, and when you stop that movement you are _exactly_ in tune.
@mandolinic4 ай бұрын
@@Kevin-mx1vi Not really. You only need two seven segment displays and a +/- to show the number of cents away from the target note. Eg. G -27 if you're 27 cents below G. You can add a decimal point and another seven seg display if you want more accuracy. That's about 24 LCDs. I suggest that for an instrument tuner, three decimal digits is more than adequate.

Happy musician here, great products. I have a new SCHDC. Written manual (included with tuner) says the empty battery icon with the bolt will become solid when charging is full. However, the above video indicates that the cable must removed before you see the full battery icon. Is it correct to assume there's no way to tell when to remove the cable? And does it harm the the internal Li battery to leave connected all night? Thanks.
@PetersonTuners7 ай бұрын
The battery icon while charging displays a lightning bolt to indicate that it is charging. Removing the usb cable forces the tuner to perform a battery check, which will then display the current charge level. Roughly 3 hours of charging time is needed to fully replenish the battery. There will be no harm to the battery if left charging overnight. We suggest not leaving the charger on for more than 48 hours.
