AVOID SURGERY AT ALL COSTS... Many surgeons / doctors have conflict bias and will play on your emotions and convince you that you need surgery to increase their wealth . It's like asking a real estate agent if it's a good time to buy... You need to make the decision and try all natural healing before committing to surgery, since you will never be the same after someone cuts through your body. Speaking from experience after I was pressured into surgery as a trusting young kid.

It’s been nine months since my L Achilles rupture. I did physio for some time and then the surgeon said that in order to recover fully I needed to bear on my L leg while supporting myself at a sink with my arms. After some months I did not make any progress. I went to my physiotherapist and she said that my L calf muscle had weakened and thinned considerably and that was the reason I was still limping. I am now on the regimen of exercises to strengthen the L calf, buttock and the whole leg via toe press machine at the gym or with a tensor band while at home and also partial squats to strengthen the glutes. It is vital to strengthen the weakened leg muscles as soon as possible after the pain subsides.

Hi how is your Achilles doing now? Did you have any stiffness in your ankle joint that restricted you from performing dorsiflexion past neutral and performing squats and lunges? Did you have any tightness in your longus and extensor parts of your legs? What is your PT doing to help you in your special situation?
@ow-my-achilles1106
@ow-my-achilles1106 3 жыл бұрын
@@jasmineegardner3499 I've been out of PT since February 2021, used up my insurance visits. I don't have full dorsiflexion in the foot, and might never get all the way. I can walk around and ride my bike no issues so far. Still do not have full power int he right calf either. The ankle is stiff at the limits of my range of motion, and is sore after any exercise. I still do dorsiflexion stretches weekly, and especially before a ride. I cannot do a full lunge on the right side, there's definitely a "limit" because of the surgery and the graft. But the repair is solid. I did 6 hours of cleaning a camper, top to bottom, ladders, climbing, yesterday, and it was sore afterwards. But during the normal course of the day I don't think about it. I've definitely used the ankle pretty hard, loading up the calf muscles during hard rides, but never felt there would be a problem, no pain. So I think my surgery went well, and the repair is strong. Hoping I never get a repeat rupture!

@@ow-my-achilles1106 hi did your Achilles ever loosen up after you started to walk on it? For example in the beginning it was very stiff and tight and now you can move it as in wiggle it around or it is stiff tight? Did your PT do any gastron to loosen the tendon?

@@jasmineegardner3499 My ROM is much better than after the surgery. I had nerve bruising that limited how aggressive my therapy could be early on. Really sore ankle near the tendon graft site. Even today I KNOW there's something up in that foot. Likely forever. I've come to understand there's no such thing as 100% recovery where Achilles tendon rupture is concerned, especially for older folks, so don't expect it.

My hamstrings still feel weak as fuak after my pcl reconstruction surgery and I don't have full bend of my knee but I do have full extension. It's been 7 months since surgery. Is this normal?
@bienvivos
@bienvivos 4 жыл бұрын
Alex I had my PCL reconstruction exactly one year ago, yes it is normal for your hammies to be very weak even at 7 months, PCL recovey takes longer and has to be more care than ACL. I attempted playing soccer 2 weeks ago for 40 min for the first time since injury and even after a full year of recovery, therapy, rest, and strengthening my legs at a high athlete level, my knee felt very tender at end of game and it got swollen the next day. the swell disappeared 7 days later. Yes, even at 7 months there is still swell deep in the joint this is why you can't bend it, hot & cold therapy at your home helps you with this and do your physical therapy and ROM movements everyday. My personal recommendation is give it 1.5 years of full care therapy, resting, apply hot and cold 20 min of warm/ hot around knee follow by cold I do this 2 or 3 times per day religiously, cold will help with inflammation and hot helps with increasing blood supply in knee so the knew ligament scars faster and healthier deep in the joint. Have patience and faith learn to listen to your body, if knee feels tender don't push it. Once you are ready start doing exercises like the one in this video, I started doing this type of exercises 2 months ago, so 10 months after surgery. Good luck !!
