This was actually their very first #1 song in Australia. There are actually videos of them from 1960 where they were little kids singing. Remember, they started in 1958 and sung through 2003.

Their first tv appearance was 1960. Time is passing by. You should react to. They wrote all their songs. Very talented group

This video does NOT properly reflect who is singing, it is some promotional staged shots to go along with the song. This song they did not do live because there were so many layers of vocals it could not be reproduced live (at least according to various statements and interviews). This song was created during a time when Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardsons were producing and Barry was highly involved in that production process. Personally, I think it was an experiment in vocal layering and is probably mostly Barry's vocals layered and layered, although there were probably some layering of Robin & Maurice vocals that are just so blended it's hard to discern. That's not to take away from the immense talent of both Robin and Maurice and they were both certainly capable of doing a song like this, I just don't think video is accurate. Anyway, it is a great great song and I always love a Bee Gees reaction.

Sorry, this wasn't live. Nobody plays a base guitar at the bottom of the neck. It would sound like a regular guitar not a base

You have to react to the 4th Gibb brother. The Bee Gees have a much younger brother that had a singing career as a solo artist. The age difference was quite a gap. Younger brother Andy was born the year the Bee Gees were established. Please react to Andy Gibb on the Midnight Special singing, I Just Wanna Be Your Everything.

The saddest thing ever is that Barry.. the one in middle is the oldest brother.. he's buried 3 younger brothers.. the twins that sang this song with him ..Robin and Maurice.. and they had baby.. Andy .. Barry I think is close to 80 or in his 80's now... living without his brothers must hurt so much... I've lost my one sibling.. my older sister.. she's been gone 9 yrs now.. I was 47 when I lost her. I miss her every day.. But Barry.. the oldest.. would probably think his younger brothers would be around.. so sad that they are gone.. and those amazing harmonies are gone.

It was released December 1977 along with the movie for which this song was written, and several others. Saturday Night Fever was the movie. I saw it in the theater when it came out. I was 13 and it was a great time to be alive (and young).

It's a pity that you came across the Bee Gees so late. In the meantime, the twins Maurice and Robin have unfortunately died, only the older brother Barry, the big guy, is still alive. If you want to hear/watch another great song/video, search: Too much heaven

The lyrics were about violence, race riots and the "Son of Sam" serial murders in New York City in the mid 70's and the resultant fear in a lot of the public. Robin wrote the initial lyrics on the back of his Concorde ticket after reading about that in the NY Times. It is a serious song with a serious message.

@2:40, Robin was capable of going from high tenor to low baritone with a 5 octave range. A perfect example is in their older song "When do I". In this song Barry and Robin are singing simultaneously for a lot of it as they often did and as Maurice said, they sounded like a single voice due to the familial similarity of tone. There are parts of this song where all three were singing together. Maurice usually did high harmony but could also sing baritone. If you notice when the camera switches @3:50 and @4:49 both Robin and Maurice are singing together and both change from high to low. Lots of vocal gymnastics by all of them. The falsetto duel @5:13 is Barry, then Robin, then Barry, then Robin. It's often hard to know who is singing.

That was not Robin singing, it was Maurice. The videography was terrible. It did not follow the singers.

@@Redtop-qh8zo - I agree the videography was awful. If you look at the time signatures I mentioned both Robin and Mo appeared to be singing and their mouths were moving. Since this was lip synched because it was so complicated it's very confusing. Barry also was singing low to falsetto and other parts were Barry and Robin or all three together while focusing on one. Barry and Robin's dueling falsettos, each going higher, was impressive. Anyway, they all had fantastic ranges. Give a listen to "When do I" to see how Robin can go from counter tenor to baritone in a single breath. Maurice also had tremendous range but I've never been able to find how many octaves he could actually cover. I love his baritone in "Hold her in your hand".

Robin and Barry were singing together and as Mo said, they sounded like a single voice when they did. The falsettos near the end were Barry, then Robin, then Barry, then Robin. Robin did many leads, most in the 60's, early 70's and after the disco era and they often sang alternately or in unison even during that era as in "How deep is your love".
