Great video, I'm looking at alternatives to Garmin, Wahoo etc for mostly cycling, i also do some trail running too. This looks like a good device and not a brand i was aware of until today. I also travel abroad with my bike so am intrigued by what the standard world maps look like on the device or do you have to buy each country individually? Can you add maps to the device without having to hook it up to a computer? I also do a lot of my route planning in strava, is it a simple process whereby you download the route to my phone and open it with the twonav app to then sync a route across to the device? Also does it reroute you back to your route if you take a wrong turn? Or does it simply notify you that you are off course. Thanks Craig

Thanks for your video. In this video we look at the map options for TwoNav GPS users when heading overseas - gpstraining.co.uk/blogs/reviews/twonav-map-options-overseas-and-ireland#OVERSEASMAPSTWONAV You can load these maps via wifi. No problems downloading your preplanned routes from Strava onto a TwoNav GPS unit. The navigational experience notifies you when you are off course, this video looks at this - kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ6XlJ-Fn7qiY5Isi=HsNVJe2FCWimDDC_&t=795 I hope this helps.

@ukgpstraining thanks for the prompt reply. I actually do the odd review of bike computers when I have time (I'm a professional bike mechanic) and was wondering if you'd send a TwoNav device out for me to test alongside/against a regular bike computer. Let me know if that's of interest to you. I'm in the North of England too, near Hull. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i6bGomt4mKh6nacsi=0riOUmYd0TMJ5QOA

Nice review! The first one I see commenting on screen clarity. Have you tried the 2s solar? Is there a noticiable difference between the solar and non solar version? I would prefer screen visibility/contrast over solar charging. Thank you!
@ukgpstraining3 күн бұрын
I suspect you will not see any difference unless you put one next to the other i.e. solar and non solar. But, saying that, the battery life is superb with the Instinct so it the extra battery life from the solar really needed?

Is this a good watch for someone who doesn’t work out much but wants something different than an Apple Watch. I work in the trades and would like something durable that’ll give me heart rate tracking/alerts, durable with long battery life.

I personally would go for an Instinct rather than splashing out on this watch for what you are wanting. The Instinct 2x has amazing battery life - gpstraining.co.uk/blogs/reviews/garmin-instinct-2-v-instinct-2x-v-tactical-what-are-the-differences

Good video , as are others from you I have watched. I was thinking of complementing my gps garmin handheld with a gps watch like this, just to save digging the hand held out each time I wanted to check a turn. One question that keeps coming to mind is , how well does the touch screen work in the rain ? and can it be charged up with a power bank ok on the move -while still using the functions if required on a particularly long route for example ?

Can anyone tell me how to set the map so my position remains centered ? When I’m on a set course biking I have to constantly drag the screen to see where I’m at. But differently, if I’m not on a course, but use activity to create a new track it seems to stay centered.

battery life is poor, you wouldn't want to in remote area and rely on it. Using the solar will not charge this watch waste of time, why they didn't design one with a removable battery is beyond me. Battery life might last longer but you'll need to turn all the apps of, not exactly a smart watch Definitely not worth the price tag.

Battery life is poor? With HR on and Bluetooth on I get 42 days. Turn those off I get over 80 days. Yes, gps activities reduce the battery but on All Systems I can get over 30hrs. I don't consider that poor for my usage
@cyclenorthumberland7 күн бұрын
@RamblingTog Hi did you report to Garmin support and send in any logs files, I did some testing with an Instinct 2x and a Fenix 7 pro 51mm pro, the Fenix 7 cost nearly £800 compared to the £299 of the Instinct 2x and with all satellites systems on recording activities, I found with both watches a very similar figure and this was very close to Garmins expected figure of 40hrs for all satellites setting, albeit not using any solar as under my sleeve, but I was very pleased with the 36hrs plus that I achieved which has been great for using on a 24 hrs ultra event, I was wondering if you might have a faulty watch, what sort of figures are you achieving with all satellites on but not using dual frequency?

If they ditch the micro USB and use USBC as soon as possible they have an excellent device for the money and compared to Garmin ( still making 1970’s style kit sadly ) it’s way ahead. I have been using a Karoo 2 bike computer as the app and data transfer is seamless with WiFi and 4G so this is the level all navigation devices should have in the 21st century. SatMap20 is now sadly defunct but I still have mine as a great device. TWONAV looks like excellent integration though apart from the USB miss step. There will obviously be the hair shirt brigade stuck in paper maps and Garmin etrex 32 x ( I also have ) bloody awful to use on a Mac. I wish TWONAV all the best and may dive in when USB is EU standardised to C version.

I already had the 66sr, the Inreach mini 2, and a goal zero venture battery pack from you, and they are all excellent products. Obviously the 67i combines all of those now, but having already made the substantial investment, I can’t really justify selling the 66sr for a massive loss and getting a 67i, after all they are essentially the same except for battery life. If I had known what was coming next….same old story with technology.

@@stephenbland7461 There is alot said for not having all your eggs in one basket, so I would stick with two. It's quite ironic this as this weeks video was going to be 'are two devices better than one", looking at this specific subject. But thought I would quickly review the range of GPS units ahead of Christmas instead.
@stephenbland746111 күн бұрын
@@ukgpstraining agree. Each has its own merits. For shorter walks I am familiar with, and where there is patchy mobile phone service, I only take the Inreach mini 2 for emergencies, messaging and trackback if/when the fog rolls in across the moors. For longer unfamiliar walks I take all 3, plus battery pack is also used in case my mobile phone battery needs a top up. All excellent products with great support, and all well worth the investment from you 👍
@wolfgangmarvelous723912 күн бұрын
What happens when the battery fails? Apparently you have to buy a new unit. Using non-replaceable batteries is so short sighted. I would much prefer using regular AA batteries and yes I would carry the extra batteries. Let's say you get 180 hours of operating time when new. What about the next year, and the year after that, etc. The battery will inevitably lose its ability to hold a charge. After a few years if you want to use it for a backcountry trip, you'll just be out of luck when it stops working. If you depend on inReach in case of an emergency, and the now tired battery expires, well you just have to lie there until YOU expire.

The zoom is a problem with os maps. when you have planned your route on basecamp and put it on your device the zooming in is still a problem because there might be 2 woodland paths close to each other so if you can't see the path you need clearly you will still be navigating your preloaded route until you see yourself drifting off the route line then you have to try and get back on the right path. That's why I use talkytoaster maps i can zoom right down and now they have updated them that well it's better than os maps in my opinion even show private land.

This is the video I needed! I have been trying to understand how to enter a 6 figure grid reference into my fenix and finally, I understand. The 10 figures in the way the watch displays is quite confusing. But at least I know. I'm guessing that you use the first 3 for 6 figures and then the 4 for 8 figures and so on.

I agree with a lot of the points; I think the problem is a lot of people now are using their mobile phones because they always have them on them ; the processors are ultra fast., the screens much larger and are on the cusp of replacing GPS. It's certainly possible to use viewranger or the OS MAPS app on the phone as a low cost alternative. I think OS maps subscription online is something like £30 a year and for that you can plan on website or phone and they sync automatically over WIFI as well as transfer the routes or trails via GPX to any other device and switch between Topo and traditional to get all the info you need. the only weak spots are..... you can't be guaranteed signal on these mobile apps as GPRS depends upon being able to get line of sight to a mobile mast, and the mobile phone will likely only last about a day at best. but those two reasons alone are becoming less compelling to workaround them by spending £500 on say a Garmin Montana. I use the etrex32 but there's literally no two ways about it - yes it gives you GPS signal virtually guaranteed and has great battery life but the experience of using it lags about 20 years behind the average phone now. If the mobile phone industry had a cost effective GPS add on for phones or build it into the phone Garmin would be finished. I'd like to see a Garmin ETrex SE in with colour screen that links to phone, and does all the in touch stuff too for sub £300.
