I think the thing is this: When you beat a difficult challenge, it is very easy to have strong feelings and do some kind of victory talk, like "I am the king of fnaf". You would absolutely say something like this too, after completing a hard challenge. I think it's the loyal (and very young and impressionable fans) who take a line like this and turn it into a meme, and as many creators would, Mark just ran with that. I don't think he actually ever thought that he was the best fnaf player to exist. So that's how, imo, the term was born, but the more reasonable of us would obviously never apply a title like that to any individual (except as a joke or meme). Of course there is not just one king. Mark is not a god, just a funny and quite charismatic guy, who seems to be a good person at heart, who might have let his frustrations get to him in the past. That's of course not an excuse, but I would only see it as a problem if he continued to display behavior like this, but to my knowledge, he hasn't. So I hope most people don't take this that seriously, I mean what are the odds that a person can be morally perfect every single day over a decade. I would find it really interesting if he ever addressed the issue, but I can almost guarantee that he won't, I mean there's no way there are enough people around who even want him to. The biggest problem with him, as with most creators, is the religious section of his fanbase, which is something that just can't really be avoided. But to the rest of us, I guess it is nice to know that reasonable and rational fans also exist.

Regarding Markiplier's 'cheating' (even though I find your points compelling) isn't it possible he just spliced a ton of attempts together? Even though he beat it and those 18 seconds at the end are raw footage, it's always possible that other attempts had juicier, more enticing moments that he just added in instead.

Yeah, Nightmare is definitely the reason why that night is so hard. I beat it in under an hour but I think every single time I lost a round except for like 1 or 2 were because of nightmares fake laughs.

The movement in this game being a roll of 25-failed movement attempts instead of the usual simple 20 roll is really neat, it reminds me of the idea that fnaf one 4/20 might actually be harder with bonnie and chica at 19 instead of 20 because it gives them opportunities to fail movement checks at the door and be stuck there longer.

I always thought the whole "king of fnaf" thing was grossly misattributed, because he wasn't even using his own strategy, he even said he used a strat that someone else made. In that case wouldn't the guy that first beat it be better considered the king of fnaf? I think so.
