I have a JVC mini DV. I tried doing this method with the RCA cables, but my macbook doesn't seem to be recognizing it. Would there be a reason why? Every other video I've seen with a JVC camcorder have all used a fibre wire cable. I tried the RCA way, cause it was cheaper, but doesn't seem to be working :(

So, I have a MacBook Air, can I do DV Firewire out from the Sony Handycam and usb into MacBook with an adapter to the thumderbolt port? Or is there a cabel from dv firewire out to thunderbolt in? And will that automatically import into IMovie? I have so many old mini DVD's and just want to transfer them into digital files. Thought I would get a separate hard drive to put them on. Am I missing anything here?

If you had captured it with the DV cable to the mack "Imovie", you would have each scene separate, much easier for editing, and better IQ. And you would not have need the capture card.

i've been able to save some of my cassette tapes onto my laptop, but a few files are unable to be opened with QuickTime player. Now, I'm trying to re-record those missing tapes but the audio isn't working now and the output and cables are correct....

I can't thank you enough for making this video. I've finally been able to save my childhood videos to my computer. It's bringing back so many memories I thought I'd forgotten.

This is the worst way to capture digital video, using composite analog output. That mac has already built-in firewire compatibility. Why bother using that dongle?

So when I get my negative back, I put them through that and how do I edit them?
